I read where the big game at Aria they were playing a variation of Stud 8 with 4 cards dealt then 2 cards discarded. Does anyone know how this game is dealt/played?

I have played a game called Super Stud where every player gets dealt 5 cards face down, discards 2 cards, then chooses their up card. The deck is remade and action continues as normal.

I would assume by your description that they choose their 2 down cards, discard, the upcard is dealt, then the deck is remade. Action would then start as normal I suppose. I like this idea because you will be more likely to have a good starting hand that can be concealed, but the hands aren't going to be as crazy because you still get a random 3rd card.

In the UK, Super Stud is a common choice in DC games. Always played pot limit. Get 5, discard 2.

In Super Stud, do you start with the best hand showing or is it a position game with blinds instead of ante?

It's positional with blinds on 3rd street. Upcards only commence once players enter 4th street, and they reveal all at the same time (ideally).

After that, highest goes first. It's high low. But obviously can be played whatever way you like.

In the Vegas mix games super stud/stud8/razz/ is dealt 4 cards down and 1 up. Players discard two of their down cards in turn on 3rd (if they choose to continue obv) w the bring in having the option to discard last. Games are played fixed limit.

Does it make the game play looser/more action? Or does it turn into nut peddling. I'm thinking with the discard having a bigger hand is more common.

Do you discard and then play normal stud?

Hand strengths in the superstud variants are obv improved quite a bit so the games on avg are slightly looser in the early streets (eg # of players to 4th) with potential for massive multiway pots of the cards fall right.

It's extremely rare to steal the blinds and antes in the superstud variants.

Is it blinds, and position? or it is stud, with the low up card bringing it in?

Antes and bring in. After discards everything is just like normal stud/stud8/razz/etc.

Only other change is that in super stud8 the high card brings it in.

In Canada we play it 4 cards, pot limit. You pick your discard and up card. It gets played at home games. It's a great game.
