Any 2+2 posters from Hobart?
Is it still a couple of tables of 1/2.5 only? Any higher stake games? High rake?
Any current info appreciated.

Poker runs only Wed, Thu, Fri and Sat nights. Lucky if there is more than one table on Wed and Thurs. it's only 1/2.50. No high stakes games.
The rake is absolutely absurd. Uncapped $2.50 for every $50 or part thereof. So if there's a $1000 pot you're paying $50 rake. On a $55 dollar pot you're paying $5! The rake severely effects the player pool. Recently the casino had a proposal to reduce the rake knocked back by the government.
Bottom line, it's OK for a bit of social fun but you're better off at any other Australian casino.

Thanks Rebel, I'll keep your advice in mind. At those commission rates I may not even bother turning up.

This info is a year out of date so double check but I was there this time last year and they had games Wednesday through Saturday. Weirdly Wed/Thur the game was 6pm-2am, and Fri/Sat was 8pm-4am and they were very strict about the start and end times.
You could call the casino and put your name down to reserve a seat which was held for you until the start time. Other players would just show up and get on the the wait list. I probably played 8 times over 3 weeks and their was always a game, and it always started on time.
Games were 1/3 and I don't remember the rake but I remember it being really good, much better then Melb/Syd. Everyone was really friendly and knew each other. Games were soft but pretty nitty with not a lot of money going around (but I only play in Asia so it might be relative). Still had a good time and would definitely play their again.

Cheers mate. I might take a little look during Aussie Millions. Melbourne is chaos towards the end on Jan. Plenty of cheap flights around into Hobart.

Info is a few months out of date.
Games are generally 1/3 and only two tables run. The first table starts at 6.30pm on Wed/Thu and 8.30pm on Fri/Sat. The second table starts when it gets enough players. The first table is generally full of regs and is not a profitable table by Australian standards, with a mix of Eastern European mature nits and some competent white regs. The second table attracts the more recreational players and tourists and is by far the best table to play - if you can get on it. Sometimes the first table will elect to play 2/5 by negotiation.

That's odd Solomon- early start quiet nights and late start on busy nights? Tassie logic!
