The rake is brutal as it is with the speed difference. A bad beat jackpot would bring out the idiots more. But weekends at Woodbine is a donkfest it's much tighter on weekdays but still beatable if you play more disciplined. Saturday nights you can win 1K pots at 1/2 (no joke).

In July, Toronto City Council voted 25-19 in favour of a full casino expansion at Woodbine that would add 300 table games and 2,000 electronic gaming machines. An outside casino company picked by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) will operate the casino.

Lawson said the latest is the OLG, "has now short-listed to seven bidders, but we don’t know who they are… The OLG appears anxious to move (the casino expansion) along."

Though no plans have yet been approved at WEG's Mohawk Racetrack, Lawson said, “my goal, quite frankly, is to duplicate (casino expansion) at Mohawk".

Mohawk is located in the municipality of Milton, which has already approved the zoning for a potential casino expansion. WEG just needs the go-ahead from the OLG.

Was thinking of playing a bit more $1 / $2 and want to know what the action is like at woodbine? I've been a couple of times and all I remember is half the table always knew each other plus another couple of tight quiet players and maybe 1 fish.

Maybe I've been spoiled when I've travelled and had a lot of loose players at other casinos. I'm not saying the regs are good (maybe they are, maybe they aren't) but just seems to be a lot more of them there than when I travel to other casinos

The regs are Woodbine are really bad, no reason whatsoever to be worried when they are all talking to each other. It's insane how many of them buy in for <$100 and play completely exploitable. Saturday night it actually had all 11 tables full, hopefully the action is picking back up

Lmaoooo real ****

Everytime I go to play there's at least 4 OMC's per table and they all buy in for like $80 waiting for AA only for some of them to get impatient and play some trash like K7s utg and stack off with middle pair

FWIW when it comes to a poker room like Woodbine (ie. electronic) I find that the play is generally always gonna be at least a little bit tighter because since you actually gotta sign up and get a card & ****, the pool is mostly gonna be limited to people that are serious enough to at least kinda know what they're doing and as a result the majority of your money is gonna come from bad regs (which thankfully there are quite a few).

It's not like a regular B&M casino where someone can randomly just stroll up to the poker room and decide they wanna give poker a try and end up getting stuck

Thanks for the info... I can definitely see that having to sign up for a card makes it harder for recs to play... I'm also guessing you don't get as many tourists playing as you would in niagara?

Still get some tourists, Woodbine has a monopoly over the city. Every other legal poker option is over an hour drive. Woodbine is also very close to the airport, so I've net a few players who had a long layover who stopped by to play.

Definitely nowhere near as much as Niagara but there's still a decent amount for the reasons Mojojo stated.

The regulars tend to stick out like a sore thumb though. Since it's usually a cool 25 minute drive at the very most, not to mention Woodbine isn't taken that seriously as a casino bc aside from poker it's mostly slots, they tend to underdress like crazy. Some of them wear literally the exact same clothes everytime they go to play lmao.

One time I played there for a month straight almost everyday and it got to a point where Id plan hands and refer to everyone by their damn outfit lol. IE. I'd value bet the crap outta army clothes & aviator guy, Snapcall big river bets from black Cardigan guy, uglyass blazer guy will push with tptk, and white dress shirt guy will chase non-nut draws to the river.

55 ran last night for the first time in a few months..

Hopefully it can pick up again..

It ran saturday too, seems like some of the 2/5nl regs are migrating back to woodbine from fallsview

Has anyone ever played PLO there? If so what is it like

I've played PLO there several times. It's fun. Games I played in ranged from fairly soft to difficult, just depends on who's there. If you have the bank roll to ride out the debilitating swings and or the discipline to get up from the table if the competition is too tough i highly recommend it. Very fun game.

Woodbine has been busier lately. Tonight they have 2 x 2/5NL tables, 1 x 5/5NL, 1 x 1/2PLO, 7 x 1/2NL and both the 1/2NL and 2/5NL have 15+ person wait lists. There seem to be a lot of new faces around here lately

Good to hear. How was play, still a little a soft?

Hope the new casino/conference center has a nice big poker room, I'm thinking we could fill it easy. Would be nice if Caesar's gets the licence (for me anyway ) so us Diamond players can get the benefits.

Can't think of a bigger first world area that doesn't have a proper poker room. As with our transit system we're behind the rest of developed countries on the planet.

Lmao the general, used to see him there every time i went.

On a serious note though, thinking of taking real shot at building a bankroll playing 1/2 at woodbine from a relatively small amount of capital. I know everyone used to whine about the play on the machines, but does anyone find Woodbine actually has higher swings/variance then a standard table? I know the games are still soft, but I'm trying to decide if I should just take it slow and make the drive to Niagara 1/2 times a week or just get way more hours at woodbine.

Would anyone be willing to share their long-term $/h win rate at 1/2?

Yeah that dude is a character. He's also an angle shooter from what I've heard though.

I need to find my logs, but I remember my winrate being around 10bb/hr

People love to complain about the machines but the only reason it seems like they're swingier is because you're seeing more hands than you would in a regular casino, so obviously you're gonna see more things that are out of the ordinary. The people you always hear complaining about the machines at Woodbine are usually the same people that think online poker is rigged.

Depending where you live, you need to factor in other details when deciding where to play. Total driving time, cost of gas/parking, and enjoyment of the game are all things to consider on top of your hourly rate. Despite making a little less at woodbine per hour, it still might be worth playing

I'd definitely stick to Woodbine then. The money you'll save from less driving by itself is probably going to be +EV as hell in the long run. Depends what u drive obv but you're still gonna be spending at least 3x more money driving to Niagara and back than Woodbine.

That being said definitely try to go out of your way to go to Niagara every once in a while cause the game is definitely softer from what I've seen. More fish there that buy in for max at least anyways.

Yeah I know it's the best option, I'm just really not a fan of the machines.

I don't blame you lol

Honestly, the machines take a bit of getting used to, but they arent that bad. Faster game, no dealer mistakes, cheaper rake, never a waitlist because of how easy it is to start a new table....

I am heading up from FL to give Live! a try and to play a WSOPc event at the Shoe in about 2 weeks.

Can anyone tell me about the 2/2 PLO $500 max and the $5/5 PLO $2000 max? Anyone here play them? Are straddles allowed? How's the action? Softness?

Are you getting Woodbine, Toronto, Canada confused with Horseshoe, Maryland Live!?
