I wonder how the new dealers are allowed to deal if they're as bad as some people have said. Don't they train them before they put them on the floor?

I’m thinking they are having some difficulty getting applicants. Surely they are getting some training. Hopefully some experience will polish them up in time. Even if not for a sense of pride of doing a good job, some will figure out the faster and smoother their games run the more $$ they earn. Maybe if there weren’t so many new ones it wouldn’t seem as bad.

Masks are still required for all players and employers in casino (except when eating/drinking). Poker room closes at 4am. Last night (Saturday), they had a good crowd with 26 nine handed tables going. Also interesting change that I played last night was $2-5 NLH ULA, which means $10 button straddle is ultimate last action preflop (UTG straddle no allowed). About 1/3 or more of players were doing button straddles which created good action. Buy in range has been increased to $300-$1,000 from $300-500 for this game.

MASSIVE benefit to playing in a game with button straddle ULA where 2/3 of players aren't doing it.

Mask rule not enforced, I saw at least 20 players not wearing a mask yesterday.

winstar.com updated their covid guidelines: "Face Masks. Face masks are optional for all patrons. We encourage masks be worn by unvaccinated guests."

Finally got a free hotel night. Bummer it's during the week but I'll take it anyway. I prefer LHE which rarely gets spread weeknights. I do shortstack NLHE so if I decide to hit the poker room (for the first time in over 2 years) I'll probably do that.

I never book my rooms online - I can never get it to work

I call, give them my passport number, and ask if I'm eligible for any free rooms for the dates I'm considering. And they did warn me that there was construction - I forget which tower but they said they didn't expect it to affect my stay.

For whatever it's worth, I played last night and thought the room, though nearly empty (no more than 6 to 8 tables), was run very well - all of the dealers we had at our table did a good job of keeping the game running smoothly. I was one of a total of maybe 5 people wearing a mask. I was the only one who also wore gloves. Tables were 9-handed. An employee was there to deliver free soft drinks to whoever asked. Cocktail service was good.

I heard the name Rachel mentioned once or twice, but didn't ask if it's the "famous" Rachel spoken of fondly by others in this thread.

Want to know anything else, just ask.

WinStar tables continue to be lower than pre-pandemic, but the action is usually good relative to game size. Friday and Saturday evening typically have 20+ tables, and probably in 6-8+ range on other nights. Poker room still closes at 4am daily. The $2-5 NLH with optional $10 button straddle for ultimate last action is typically very lively, increased buy-in range of $300-$1,000 also helps. Weekday tournaments returned at start of December, I played in Friday $230 bounty NLH on 12/10, and there were about 98 entries.

Is anyone familiar with Craps at Winstar?

How does the ripoff fee structure work?
What are the table minimums?
What are the max betting odds?

I'm sure the answers still make the extra drive to Shreveport worthwhile.

Does anybody have any insite into why Winstar isn’t returning to the tournament scene post COVID? I get that TX poker has slowed them down some but with Choctaw still hosting several successful series every year I don’t get why they wouldn’t rerun the River Series, Memorial Day, etc. Any ideas?
