I guess this poker room is run by the Chicago teachers' union!

Well the casino is open with no poker or bingo. Is that a partial reopen? I assume you would like a limited opening of poker. I have no idea of why they have chosen to remain closed or what conditions would change this choice.

Re: Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

The economics have changed dramatically for Winstar since COVID started due to the rooms-we-shall-not-discuss opening up to their south. I think they would struggle to get remotely the same amount of daily action they were getting before, so they're probably not nearly as motivated to reopen as it might otherwise seem they should be.

Re: Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

They have a tentative re-open date of April 6, hours changed from 10 am to 2 am and no longer 24 hours.

Rake increased to 6$ max with 1$ drop, 9 handed.

It will be a ghost town IMO.

I do not work there. A current employee showed me an e-mail sent out by the poker room manager. Everything I stated above I read in the e-mail and is factual (among other things like requirement of a covid vaccine or you have to find new employment).

This is my opinion:

Most players that go to Winstar are from the DFW metroplex. There’s nothing in BFE Thackerville. With their competition opening, no one is going to drive the 1+ hour. The increased rake and hours are working against them. The rake is self explanatory. The hours... well no one wants to be stuck like chuck at 2 am and then not be able to get it back. Some people like to play long sessions and 2 am seems a bit early to close IMO.

Overall, poor job by Winstar IMO, they ****ed their players and their employees.

An opposite opinion:

I live in the DFW area, Texas Card House is nearly as far a drive as Winstar.

Given a choice, I'd much rather play in a casino than a inner city card room. Much safer inside and out.

From what I've seen, TCH offers very little if any limit action. Winstar always has limit games running. There are those who still prefer limit vs. NL.

What we've heard about Winstar reopening is only the plan at the time and still almost two months away. Things can and do change. Regardless, they could have a $20 rake and players would still be there.

thanks for providing that info. i am sure that a lot of us winstar players are happy t see them coming back online again.

i agree 2am is strange BUT its better than nothing. i think they will re-open to good crowds once again.

Winstar.com covid information page has recently removed “Poker is suspended until further notice.” Sure hope reopening is coming in April, can’t wait to play!

Checked Bravo app this morning and it said one game running at Winstar.
I tried calling and was put on perpetual hold so didn't talk to anyone.
Maybe they are just messing with Bravo on their end.

Likely testing system due to installation of new tables. Definitely not open until the 20th of April.

Re: Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

WinStar had good turnout on opening day of poker room. Per Bravo on Tue 4/20 10:35pm, 16 tables (2 $2-5 NLH, 4 $1-3 NLH, 9 $1-2 NLH, 1 $4-8 LH). I expect larger turnout this weekend and increase over time as people resume activities.

i was wanting to know the same thing about when tournaments are starting back up. i would think they're coming back soon if the traffic is back to normal -or close to back to normal, right?

Confirmed, I had a dealer that had no idea how to run the game. Three miss deals in a row and didn’t know who won the pot a few times. However, the action is better than its ever been.

Re: Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

There are definitely some new ones that have some room for improvement but believe a lot of those have some potential. The first night after reopening I encountered one that was totally incompetent and think it would be a miracle if he ever made a half*ss dealer. Second trip back seen one of the original dealers that is a very good dealer so maybe he can do some mentoring. Idk

Outside of Grand Casino in Shawnee, is Winstar the closest open poker room to Norman?

TIA

Can confirm, I play there quite frequently. There are some of the new dealers that don’t know anything. I played last night and saved 2 players money because of dealer error and also kept a guy from losing pot when it was a chop.

Almost 10 years, epic first post dude. lol

I wonder how the new dealers are allowed to deal if they're as bad as some people have said. Don't they train them before they put them on the floor?
