Re: Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

i'm gonna be in Dallas from Sat-Thur this coming week. probably try to get up to play some 1/2nl. are there usually a good # of tables going at this limit? any recommendations on the best time of day or the best days in general would be helpful. i'll probably go back through the thread to find out some more info like buy-in, etc. thanks.

Harrington's books are still the best available. Anyone who uses his strategy is still killing the game.

But if you want you can 'Decide' to play great poker the Annie Duke way. rofl.

#5. Can you ask the dealer to count the pot? "Yes. In online games this is done automatically, but in live games you have a right to know what's in the pot before you make your play since you may not be able to estimate it accurately yourself. In that case you can ask the dealer to count the pot. Note that remembering the bets in live games and keeping track of the pot in your head is an excellent skill to develop."

This book was written in 2008. Are you all saying that all casinos have changed their rules on a universal scale in only 4 short years?
I will be compleately honest with you here. Of the few rooms I have worked in and all the rooms I have played in, I have never seen a dealer count the pot in a non pot limit game. I would agree that this is valuable information however the reason it's not given is simply the amount of time it would take the dealer to make an accurate count.

Casinos are in the buisness to make money and slowing the game down to count the pot is not condusive to making money.

If you want an edge on your competion then practice counting the pot. It's not that diffacult, dealers do it in pot limit games and all pots under 50$, most of the time anyway.

Counting the pot is a great exercise for keeping your head in the game and paying attention to the action and your opponets tendacies.

It says you can ask, it does not say the dealer has to count it for you.

The issue here is OPTAH, (One Player To A Hand) if a player or the dealer tells you how much is in the pot, they have violated the OPTAH rule.

Lets look at some rules from RRoP (Robert's Rules of Poker) the authority that most poker rooms refer to when writing rule books.

Quote:
PROCEDURES
1. Only one person may play a hand.
Quote:
A no-limit or pot-limit betting structure for a game gives it a different character from limit poker, requiring a separate set of rules in many situations. All the rules for limit games apply to no-limit and pot-limit games, except as noted in this section. No-limit means that the amount of a wager is limited only by the table stakes rule, so any part or all of a player’s chips may be wagered. The rules of no-limit play also apply to pot-limit play, except that a bet may not exceed the pot size. The player is responsible for determining the pot size at no-limit, not the dealer. The dealer is responsible for determining the pot size at pot-limit, and should enforce the pot-size cap on wagers without waiting to be asked to do so by a player.
This rule out dates 2008 by at least 10 years or more.

I haven't read a poker strategy book in my life, so I'm sure you would be heavily favored in the reading contest.

May I suggest a foot race from the Poker Room parking lot door to the Inn and back at high noon on July 4th. One or both of you will collapse for heat exhaustion but it should be a great 3 minutes.

50 cent ante per bet up to $100, $1 ante for anything over. So, if you play the $5 bj table (why oh why?), your ante is 10% of your bet - very -EV. If you bet say $50, $75, $100, your ante is 1%, .67%, and .5% of your bet - better EV but still a pain in the butt to pay this every hand. And never ever ever keep track of how much you pay in antes over the course of a night, it will genuinely discourage you.

You are right on one point, I did bully my table last night. Let us know when you get the balls to finally move up to 2/5.

Seems weird that you are selling pieces at relatively small buyin tournaments and then challenging guys to 10/20NL heads up matches. Doesn't seem to add up

Because I'm mostly a cash game player. I'm considered a fish in tourneys. I don't want to spend 100% of myself. There are a few 2+2ers have played cash with me before and can confirm I'm rolled for 10/20 cash games.

My friend and I are looking into going out for the series and are looking for a weekly/monthly rental that is within about a 10 minute drive of winstar. Where can we stay for cheap in the area? If anyone has any suggestions or can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Any ex-Pokerstars player still roaming this thread? I'm 4timmy and have been playing live every other weekend doing 24hrs+ sessions. Would like to put some names to faces of players that I've played against on Pokerstars.
