Re: Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

I just did a write up on Choctaw and I agree that it's better for $1/2, after you start playing any higher than that though.....WELCOME TO WINSTAR!

I think I might have been at that table lol. Was he raising to $60 bucks and other crazy stuff?

I was basically card dead all weekend long. And everytime I tried to steal pots someone was shoving or 3 betting. Turned out they had trips, straights. or flushes so I made the right laydowns over and over. It is just frustrating.

I also played $1/$2 with a guy who dropped at least $1,500 and he kept giving the dealers $20-$50 tips and buying the whole table drinks.

I went to Choctaw and the dealer wouldn't let me min-raise a $12 open up to 22. It put me on the awkward decision of whether or not to reveal my formidable adding and multiplication skills while in a hand.

Did you tell them that pokerstars lets you? lol That kinda irritates me. And soon as they know it's 12 to go or w/e that it's automatically double that not accounting for the $2 BB.

I was getting the same insistence on $24 from both opponents in the hand. Once I figured out what the crap they were talking about (took a few seconds) I decided the extra $2 was going in good.

I played yesterday around 8pm on one of their 1/2 tables and there was an older gentleman who had $1500 in front of him. I sat down with $200. 30 minutes later, he went broke because he played every damn hand lol. I was only able to stack him once.

What are the morning/daytime games like at either Winstar or Chocktaw? Are there generally 1/2 games spread at that time?

Re: Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

I was just up at Winstar last night and no one seemed to know this question (asked several dealers and staff)--

I see that they are swiping your card in the Bravo system now. But, it seems that all Winstar is doing is tracking that you played at least two hours before they do the 8.80 comp. Is Winstar going to go to some sort of $/per hour played or are they just going to use the Bravo system to make sure you play a few hours before comping you 8.80?

Anyone have any insight?

$1/2 games at Winstar are always plentiful. I think you will always find a couple at Choctaw as well. Winstar has more traffic by far. If you play $2/5 then Winstar will run a few of those everyday. Choctaw usually gets one going at night.

That is all during the week. During the weekend Winstar will get several $5/10s going and Choctaw will get a couple $2/5s.

I asked them last week and they said it is going to be a gradual transition. They are getting people used to sitting and playing a while before getting a comp right now. "Soon" they will flip the switch and you will earn your $1.10/hr. or whatever it will be. The $8.80 meal comp is left over from the old system. They will eventually do away with that.

There is one problem though. I was talking to someone who said that all these $8.80 comps are going into the new system. He said that some accounts will be negative because the system deducts -$8.80 even if you only played 3 hrs.

Yeah I couldn't seem to get a straight answer last weekend on how much the new comp will be per hour and when they're going to start implementing it.

As of now, you still just get the $8.80, but you have to play 3 hours before you can get it.

Re: Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

You are supposed to play 4 hrs to get the comps, but they have history on you and will give you a comp if you have had 4+ hrs since your last comp. For instance, if you played 4 hrs last week but didn't get a comp, they should be able to give you a comp at the beginning of your session. However, if you played a 16hr session last week and used your comp, then you will not be given a comp until you play 4 hrs today.

I am not sure if they would give you two comps in one day or not.

Didn't you already reveal your formidable math skills by min-raising to 22. It seems like this was an opportunity for you to begin counting on your fingers to throw your opponents off.

Re: Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

Anyone have any insight about 2/5 at Winstar? What percentage of the players are recreational? How does it compare to 2/5 at other places (ex: Vegas, LA)...is it tougher or easier? Is it primarily just ABC poker like 1/2 at Winstar?

I haven't played regularly in quite some time, so others might have a different experience that is more recent, but my experience with 1/2 is that is it MOSTLY a lot of nits, rocks, and overall poor players. i.e. For me, it's only what I play when I have a low bankroll or just am killing time until a 2/5 table opens up because I find it (personally) really hit or miss. Sometimes, I can just dominate the nits and rocks and generally poor 1/2 players. But other times, the 1/2 games acan be money pits because you ended up with a bunch of folks who are purely "gambling" and get lucky all night long - sucking you dry.

So, though (again in my personal experience) I have seen some of the same 1/2 type players playing 2/5 games, I would say that overall, the skill level IS more consistent, higher in the 2/5 games.

That being said, on a busy Sat/Sun weekend, you've got around 40 tables full of either 1/2 or 2/5 with infinite combinations of good/bad and rounder/recreational players, and anything can happen.

If you have solid ABC game (don't overplay overpairs, know the correct odds to draw, etc...) then you can do quite well in the 2/5 game. It can get nitty during the day but you just have to adjust and open a bit more and steal more pots.
