Thanks for the reply. I hope the games are good. I've had a dang good week playing 1/2 so far. I'm $1600 in the past three days. If the games are good I hope to add a little to that.

I am going to play in the weekly tournament on Wednesday. Does anyone know the structure of this tournament? Also, does this game normally fill up to the max. Thanks.

I just checked in. I will try to find out the structure and answer your questions in the morning.

Ok, what I've learned so far, if you stay at the hotel here at the casino take the shuttle to the poker room. The lady at the front desk told me it's over a mile walk to the poker room.

It's a mile if you walk round trip. You can take the free shuttle or you can drive and park right outside the poker room, there is an entrance directly into the poker room from the parking lot.

Just got back from my first time at Winstar. A pretty good poker room and I'll be back soon. Great action compared to my usual stomping grounds at Harrah's in KC which has dried up bad. My only complaints are the lack of drink ladies(pretty much every poker room is like this though) and that they require you to stack your chips neatly. The floor chased off this complete drunk fish because he wanted to keep his chips in a giant messy pile and they made him stack them neatly. For christ's sake the guy is buying tons of beer and is great for the players just let the guy pile his chips how he wants.

Also, as I travel around the midwest and go to different poker rooms I swear to god I keep seeing the same guys. Its weird.

Winstar is the bomb. I Play at the Venetain and Winstar a lot. As far as the actual games go, Winstar wins. But the "V" is building bigger limit games and that kinda excites me. Winstar needs to focus on building bigger limit games where I'll stop going to vegas just to find a game. Limit is making a comeback.

Just got home after my first trip to this place. I'll post a trip report as soon as I catch up on some sleep. This Place is AWESOME! I will be back ALOT!

The poker room here does something that I wish every poker room on earth would. I think it would make the games alot better at most of the places I've been. I'll tell ya all about it in a few hours.

I found out last week that the Casino doesn't actually own the alcohol service at the casino. I think thats the only way they could actually get alcohol in their casino, to outsource it. How does the 2/5 compare to the 1/2? I have been playing the 1/2 ABC and have had OK results... just getting tired of the 15-20 pre flop, all in shove on the flop with gut shot draw players...

Does anyone know if the Winstar weekly tourneys are good value? Have any of you actually played in them?

I see that they have the following weekly tourneys:
Monday - $115 Buy In.
Tuesday - $100 Buy In.
Wednesday - $60 Buy In.
Thursday - $115 Buy In.
Friday - $220 Buy In.

I see that it says they have 80 player caps? How many people get paid? How long do these tourneys usually run?

Feel free to PM me with any info if you don't feel like posting the answers to my questions here.

Thanks,
Trav

Run about 4 hours, except Friday runs around 5. All will sit as many as possible above 80 as alternates for first hour. Pays top 10%. Blinds get aggressive and make the last hour more all in or fold. Chops are reasonably common at final table.

The Friday tournament is by far the best one in terms of structure. It's the only one that has antes to. They always get more than 80, sometimes as many as 120+.

I was there Friday and they did. The 4/8 was the only limit game they offered.

I have some comments on my trip but I am a brand new player and I am not sure if it is this forum or the beginners forum I should post at.

I don't think one is supposed to double post.

Quick Winstar etiquette question. I am not a regular but just might become one. In a cash game when two players are all in on the flop with no more action remaining don't most of the players flip and show.

I had a regular not show till well after the river and he hit runner runner to stack me. Dealer didn't make him show at flop or turn. If you heard the yelling about 930 or so last night to turn your f*** ing cards over that was me.

Ended up making a decent comeback so all is well.

In a cash game you don't have to show.

Why do they make you turn over automatically in tournaments? Anyone know? I prefer to wait until all the cards are dealt before I flip as well. No point in me giving out any voluntary information if its not needed. Not that it would make that much of a difference because I pretty much pwn, but thats besides the point.

I believe it's to prevent collusion (like two players whipsawing others out of the pot) since tournament poker does not have the IWTSTH rule.

Because collusion in tournaments is a much greater problem b/c the other players have a financial interest in players busting.

Player A and Player B get all in in a tourney, and are buddies. A has J9 and B has 77. After a board of K 5 3 9 2, player B shows 77 and player A mucks the best hand to keep his friend in. This just damaged everyone else in the tournament, who have an interest in B busting.

I just got a suggestion to go to Durant instead. The rake is supposed to be less and the drive from Dallas is suppose to be easier. Anyone have any comments?

If by easier you mean driving 94 miles up State Route 75 instead of driving 82 miles up Interstate I35, then okay. Distances computed from center of downtown, your mileage may vary. I guess it depends if you are East or West of Downtown Dallas. My understanding is that the rake is now the same.

Here's a choctaw thread. I just got back from there, and yeah the rake is the same now, which sucks.

Each room has its advantages and disadvantages, I definitely suggest trying out both.

I've been to both a million times so feel free to ask/pm any questions.

Anyone see the kid at 2/5 the other day with $3100? I think he lost it all within the next hour or so that I saw.

Damn dealer screwed me out of a 100+ pot by not paying attention.

Limp in the SB w/ 89o. Flop comes K 8 9. I lead with 12 and get 4 callers and before it gets to the damn button the dealer has already exposed the turn card which was the As. Well when he turns to me for first action the guy on the button says "I was gonna fold anyways". The dealer calls the floor and it is ruled that the natural river is to come out and then the As is going to be shuffled back into the deck w/ a 1/27 chance of it coming out. Well the turn is now a Qs so I fire 20 and get 2 callers. The A gets shuffled back into the deck and BOOM Qh on the turn. Obv was being called down by K7.

Thank you dealer person than lubed me up real good over the weekend. I really appreciate it.

/Rant
