Glad to hear that the series is not going to be held in the poker room. I also am confused about tipping your dealer. I will be tipping when i go but I am confused as to whether you hand them chips (ex. - $1 chip) or a dollar bill?

Thanks for the reply DealerGuy. I hear your the walking database for Winstar poker. So if you have any other tips, advice, or helpful information for me that would be awesome since I am brand new to casino poker. Thanks.

For the first couple of hours, watch the other players at the table, see how they do what they do. The ones who seem comfortable, confident and not too flashy are the players you should probably try to emulate. I'm not speaking of playing style but the way they interact at the table. How they handle their chips, their cards and themselves.

.
Yes you tip them in chips. Just drag your pot, and if you choose, tip however much you want. Any amount is acceptable. Most players will tip 1-2 dollars for standard pots, and a little more for bigger pots. It is entirely up to you.

Also one more question that I just thought of..
At the end of your session... You can get up and walk away whenever you want in between hands right? And when you do decide to leave, where/how do you get your payout? And are you allowed to walk out with your chips and take them home with you if you are planning on bringing them back and playing with them the next day?

Yes, you can leave whenever you want. You bring your chips to the cashier and they will change it to cash for you.

I guess you can keep the chips if you want, but that's kind of weird lol

Dealer I work at red river in devol. Its right by burkburnett tx. I used to work for chickasaws in duncan when they had poker. I know in that room the state received a cut of the rake. Im assuming all chickasaws are the same since its a pretty standard deal for all tribal casinos in oklahoma not just the chickasaws. I've read both compacts and it seems like the state does receive a percentage of the rake. I'm not saying that's how winstar runs. I'm just saying that's how most casinos in oklahoma operate with the state.

Any helpful hints for a beginner as far as play goes? Even though im going forthe experience and am expecting to make a profit. Keep in mind only played online and home games but have watched tons of wsop and know a fair amount. (position, c-bet,3 bet, etc). Probably just going to be playing 1/2 NL. the whole time so hope that narrows down the field of advice giving

Believe me or not, that's what it is.

If you choose to not believe it, may I suggest asking the poker room personally.
I think you got it backwards and confused it with the blackjack operations. Unless the state has a separate agreement with the Chickasaw Winstar location which differs from the state pact with other Chickasaw poker rooms in the state. Which I think is unlikely.

In all other poker rooms in Oklahoma, the state take a percentage of the rake, but nothing from the BBJ drop. The tribes are free to allocate the BBJ drop any way they want. And they can set the poker rake at whatever percentage they want. A couple even posted it in their room how much of the BBJ drop gos to the current jackpot and how much went to the reserve jackpot.(at least they use to, I guess it could have changed in the last few months). In the blackjack rooms the ante is split with the state and the money lost to the dealer is used for the blackjack tournments, promotions and marketing(including salaries). But I can see how you can get confused with blackjack ante, the poker rake, the poker BBJ drop and the blackjack marketing pool.

By the way, you don't need to send me anymore snoky private messages. If you are uneasy with a question just ignore it.

However, claiming the BBJ drop is not for the BBJ is a unique way of trying to avoid and misdirect a question.

The question is simple what percentage of each day BBJ drop gos into the current BB jackpot ?

If that is something casino management feels the customer should not ask about, just tell us so. We have all been in some poker rooms with management that has a horrible attitude toward their customers.

I've never worked in Blackjack. I don't speak about BJ issues. Have you ever worked in the poker room?
Why would I make this up? Do I make numerous posts condemning all things related to rake?

As I have said, if you choose not to believe me, call the poker room and ask the room manager. The dollar dropped before the deal is an ante. It is not a BBJ drop. I addresed everything you said above yet you refuse to accept the truth could be something other than what you claim. What part of that isn't t clear? I assume you can't t be bothered to seek out facts so troll elsewhere, please.

I said earlier that the ante dropped before the deal is split bewteen the Chickasaw Nation and the State. My point is that $1 is NOT a BBJ drop, it is an ante. What many people call rake is actually a "players Pool" and is used for many things. What percentage is used for waht I do not know.

Especially in your first live session, just watch more than play while at the table. Not going to be easy when there are 5+ limpers in most pots at 1/2, going to be tempting, but just watch. It's amazing how many players just don't watch the other players and pay attention. You can pick up so much. After a few hours if you're feeling fairly comfortable, play your normal game. But I'd seriously not consider playing a hand for at least 2-3 orbits and seeing how the "flow" is going.

Good luck!

For ADK, read the threads listed in the FAQ in this forum, that should get you comfortable enough to start.

in general, pre flop raises will be way more than what you see online. If you want to reduce the pool below the usual 4-6 expect to raise to 12 bucks or so in 1-2.

don't tap the tank.

Who cares what the money goes to. Winstar screws everyone over with the bbj. Not adding enough money tHe pool compared to how many people are playing there. But who cares. They aren't gonna change it and people are still going to play there

Troll elsewhere ? I'm not sure I know what that means, but I guess I can follow you to the Choctaw Casino threads and learn from your posts there.

no wonder dealer guy is terrified to say who he is, and is one of the reasons I barely tip to any dealer and I play regularly in the 2/5 and 5/10 games, I am sure you know who i am.

So you're saying that because you dislike one dealer, you don't tip any of them? Sound reasoning, imo.

That's exactly the kind of reasoning that will get you elected to public office.

Actually I'd think the exact opposite. To get elected to have to tip all the dealers because you want them to all vote for you. Then once in office you have to tax their tips 80%+ to get the funds back to you.

You *CAN* do that, if you verbally declare your bet before the chips cross the betting line.

Also worth noting: if you play limit and you are opening the betting, you can carry a stack over the line and it doesn't change the bet. Because it's limit. The first bet is always the same amount.

Sometimes it's best to verbally declare your intent - if you're worried that what you say might be a tell, then maybe you aren't ready. And even if it is... a lot of the players at Winstar aren't that astute, not even by half.
