Dealer-guy will have to confirm, but I *think* that the extra $1 drop every hand is not for the BBJ. I believe that is a required comission that goes to the State of Oklahoma. Sort of like how, if you play lbackjack, there is a 50c to $1 ante every hand that goes to the State. I *thought* that the big blind jackpot money just came out of the main rake.

A few of the dealers and a couple of floor managers play over at Choctaw pretty regularly so I be they found out about that pretty quickly.

I have heard conflicting things on exactly what happens, but I believe you are right. Its annoying that the dealers and floor refer to it as the bad beat drop, but when I point out the math doesn't work (no where near all of that goes to BBJ), they shut up. For instance, there was a promo yesterday at riverwind, the room of 18 tables was absolutely full all day, at least from 11 to mid. anyway. That's 18* 25 hands an hour. times say,18 at least it was full. that should be at LEAST $8,000 dropped. But it will go up like $1000 or $1500.

Anway, its just so disgusting, but isn't winstar $5 + $1 I heard? at least RW is $4 +$1. Firelake in shawnee is $3 + $1. Wish it was closer to me

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

Good questions !

What can't Winstar give a straight answer as to how the badbeat drop is allocated?
Are they ASHAME to tell their customers ? How much to gos to pay marketing salaries ?

How much gos to pay for promotions in blackjack and slot areas ?

WHAT % OR DOLLAR AMOUNT ACTUALLY GO INTO THE BAD BEAT EACH DAY ?

And don't act like we are stupid and tell us it helps promote action in the room. No one drives from Dallas because the bad beat is up to $10K.

Also the rake at the Chickasaw's Riverwin Casino is $4 plus $1 bad beat. Why is the $4 rake increased by 25% to $5 plus $1 ?? Does Winstar believe the Texas players are just too dumb to know the difference ??

It's not so much that they think customers at the Thackerville property are too stupid to notice. It's that it doesn't matter.

They're not going to change the rake structure because there's no reason to do so. The room is packed AT LEAST 3 days a week. They're not going to lower their rates just to be nice. They're not in the business of being nice. They're in the business of making money.

I'm sure we'd all love to keep a little more money on the table, but what incentive does the property have to change anything? They have a captive audience that's willing to pay what they're charging. I bet they could add another dollar to the drop and there wouldn't be a more than 15% downswing in traffic.

The average poker player at Winstar is a stupid, blithering idiot. So yes, we are stupid. And we don't care about the $1 drop, we just want to play poker.

Last month when the BBJ was 40-50k, everybody was driving up from Dallas for that sole reason. Tons of players sat there and stated such.

With the easy pickins of the DFW market, Winstar can pretty much do whatever they want and get away with it.

I work in an oklahoma casino. The $1 bbj is normally allocated 60 cents to promotional/marketing fund 40 cents to BB. The state take a percentage of the "players pool" in bj every month. And they take a percentage of the rake every month. So your $1 is going to the BB and other promotions. The state gets a cut of the rake and the "players pool" in the bj pits.

Disagree, at the lower stakes I think deeper games play nittier long term.

What's the largest limit, nl, and plo game that would reasonably run during the River series? I'm trying to ballpark this to see how much I should bring with me/wire over there.

Every deep stacked game I've played in is a lot looser than the avg game.

This may well be accruate elsewhere but not at the Chickasaw Nation. The $1 dropped before he deal is split between the state and the Nation. It is NOT a BBJ drop.

The BBJ is funded from the "Players Pool" which is what the up to $5 "raked" from the pot is. It pays all sorts of promotions and the exact percentage is not known to me.

Believe me or not, that's what it is.

If you choose to not believe it, may I suggest asking the poker room personally.

JJust curious, what do you think Greg Raymer calls himself? Or Annie Duke, Allen Cunningham, Phil Ivey...

I honestly don't think Greg would say "I'm a professional poker player", if I asked him if he played poker a lot. Lol just sayin. Actually that goes for Allen, and Phil Ivey too.

but Annie Duke, yeah for sure would say that

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

I'm turning 18 next month and am planning to head up to winstar on labor day weekend. I'm a virgin to casinos obviously so I have alot of questions as far as their poker room runs and how everything works. If a regular or someone who works in the poker room could help me out and give me some information that would be great. PM me or post on the thread. Either works. Some things that I'm unclear on...
- RAKE ( not really clear on how it works and if Winstar has it's own special policy. Is this the same thing as the $1 commission I hear they take or no? )
- I.D. ( I will be only a couple days into 18 so i will only have my new 18-legal license in paper, since the card will have to be mailed to me later. Is the temporary paper license ok to bring and be able to play or will I need to bring a card license )
- WAITING LIST ( I know you have to sign up to sit at a table but again I've never been to any casino so not quite sure on all the details )
- MONEY/CHIP EXCHANGE ( Don't know what else to call it haha. Will they accept cash to pay for chips or only debit/credit? Also kinda unsure on how that works as well )
- ANYTHING ELSE ( Any info that you think would be helpful to me since it will be my first ever trip to Winstar or to a casino for that matter. I'm pretty clueless since I've never played apart from home games and such )

Anybody that has pretty good knowledge of Winstar poker, please help me out. I've heard DealerGuy is the guy to talk to about anything and everything poker and Winstar so I hope I get to hear from you. Thanks for the help.
( I hope this is the right thread for this post. I feel like it is since it's all about Winstar)(Also for now just post on the thread since I don't have PM's due to recently joining. I will edit when I have PM)

rake is maximum of 5 dollars per pot + 1 dollar

you tell the people at the big desk in front of the poker room what game you want to play, and they'll either seat you, or put you on the list. you can't miss it

Quote:

Once you get to your table, just take out cash and tell the dealer how much you are buying in for, they'll call a chip runner for you and have your chips brought to you. you could also get your own chips if you prefer at the cashier at the back of the poker room. first option is obv more convenient

Quote:

The poker room has a separate entrance, its on the far right side of the casino. Don't be afraid of ask questions about rules. every poker room has their own unique set of rules (for example at winstar, anything in your hand that you bring across the betting line has to stay. so you cant grab a stack of 50 in your hand and only drop off 35 as a bet)

Also, when you get to the front desk, ask them to make a players card for you. when you get a seat, drop your card off at the desk, and pick it up later when you want to eat. they will put 8.80 on it for you to spend on food

have fun!

Thanks alot for the responses. Also some things I've just come to realize.

1. How do they collect your rake of pots you win? ( I'm assuming they just take a certain amount of chips from your winnings..? )
2 kinda the same thing but how/how often do they collect your $1 commission fee?
3. I know the river poker series is going to be playing at around that same time. That doesn't mean there will be no poker at all for me to play right?

First off, you need to post a number of more times before you will be able to PM anyone or even receive a PM. That's just the way the forum is set up. I think it's in the range of 10 to 15 total posts.

Rake in most poker rooms is pulled from the pot by the dealer as the pot grows. If the pot reaches $50, the max rake will have been taken out. When a pot is pushed to you, it will already have the rake removed from it.

A $1 ante is taken before cards are dealt. The $1 is removed from the small blind.

Labor Day weekend the poker room will be running stickily cash games, the River event will not be taking place inside the poker room.
