It would be strange for Winstar to have invested the time/money to have dealers trained to deal games they hardly, if ever, spread.

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

When we played HORSE at Choctaw, they basically only rotated 3 or 4 dealers onto the table, I presume because they were the only ones who knew how to handle stud games. Didn't ask, and things went fine.

I received a PM from a certain dealer who feels he's not allowed to post in this thread - no stud games at Winstar. Still. Most dealers who say "We'll spread any game if you have enough people" are giving a brushoff answer and mean stakewise, not gamewise. By saying that, they put the burden back on you. As much as I'd love to play triple draw 2-7 live, it ain't happening at Winstar.

According to the compact between the state and the Chickasaw tribe, it is legal for WinStar (and other Chickasaw facilities) to spread any poker game; however, up to this point, the corporate office in Ada has only given approval, trained dealers, and printed rulebooks for Texas Hold'em and Omaha. I used to run a poker room for the Chickasaw's near OKC. I had all my dealers trained and ready to deal all variations of stud and draw. We also had rulebooks ready for both games. When we attempted to get approval to spread the games, they basically told us they didn't want to bother with it and it was going to be to much of a hassle. We did occasionally spread a 2-7TD game anyway, but it never got off the ground without the tribe's approval.

Just to be clear. Since I work at WinStar, I am not allowed to post to this thread. That is 2+2's policy which I respect.

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

I am usually not too critical of tournament structures (i.e. chainsaw) but the structure for the dailies is a bit quick. Played on Mon & Tue ($115 & $100).

Levels 20 minutes: 3k starting chips (starting with 5k - 6k this structure is 'ok')

Level 1: 25/50
Level 2: 50/100
Level 3: 75/150 - Color up 25 chips...huh, no antes...???
Level 4: 100/200
Level 5: 200/400
Level 6: 300/600

If you have not accumlated any chips by the end of level 3 (let alone if you have chipped down) it beomes a shove fest. I understand every tournament comes to this point...but 1 hour in to play I might have not even opend a pot yet and I am basically being forced to push my ~12BB stack into any raise...after an hour???

This tourney was down from 60+ entries to 2 tables in less than 2 hrs...come on guys we can do better can't we?

Any chance we can add a 100/200/25 and 150/300/50? Continue antes throughout...maybe add a few starting chips. I can't imagine these minor changes would increase the length of the tourney exponetially. It would go a long way towards adding more play though.

Anyone else play these and feel short??? I played last night and had doubled to $6k after an hour and still felt short...

I want to start tuning my tourney game up a bit for "The River", but these tournaments don't help with anything except short-stack play (which is great, don't get me wrong) but these are by far the quickest live tournaments I have ever played, and I have played many different places around the US.

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

I played a tourney once at Winstar. It was the Friday daily, and you get the most chips out of any of them. It was like playing a super turbo. I will not play any more daily tournaments there again.

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

Every live tournament I have played has been like this. It seems like the deepstack tournaments are just a normal structure and everything else feels like a turbo.

Any news on the new comp system? Or is this going to be like opening the new poker room and offering alcohol was - where it's going to take 3 years to accomplish?
The system seems to be in testing mode or something. The table devices were lit up this last week.

I hope they start it sooner than later.

Dealer Guy,

Any ideas on when? Your best educated guess. I won't hold you to your time estimate.

I wouldn't hold my breath, the AC has been broken in the "High Stakes" area for quite a while now. Things get done on a different timeline out there.

when playing at the winstar do you seem to be at a table full of regs? Are you get a good mix of players and first timers?

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

during the week i'd say there's a lot of "regs"

on the weekend it's just totally random because there's so many people there

Anyone hit the bad beat this weekend? It was at 36k tuesday when i left, rarely see it over 20k.

Left at 730 am still hadn't hit. Was there Saturday night-sunday morning. There was a kevin hart concert so we got some of the fall out of that (lots of people playing after the concert.) Played 1-2 entire time and most of the play was really terrible. Lots of people just looking to gamble and have fun.

Anybody know about quality of 2/5 on weekends? Soft games?

I left today at 4pm and the jackpot still hadn't hit. I will be up there again tomorrow. Played limit for the first time there and was amazed how bad it was for middle of the day. Its a much better game than the NL ones IMHO. Hey dealer guy send me a PM let me know who you are I would love to meet the legend
