Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

Was wacky at the ol' Star tonight. Was playing some 1/2 waiting for the tourney, and all of a sudden saw that a tornado was about 15 minutes away and heading right for us. I debated trying to get in my car and jet to Ardmore, but elected to stay put. They ended up evacuating us to the Off Track Betting area. I got under one of the desks, I have two little girls, and they are more important to me than being cool. I had my rack of about $400 under there with me. After 15 minutes, we got the all clear and went back. A weird dude that I had been playing with got busted stealing someone else's $90 stack they left out. Hope it was worth it scumbag.

Started the 7PM tourney, played about 30 minutes, got evacuated again, then they sent us all over to the London/Beijing area. They said the poker room would re-open at midnight. I got a refund for the 'canceled' tourney. Don't know what will happen to the $100 of those people who already busted.

Yeah, last night didn't seem like a great night to be at Winstar/in Oklahoma in general.

Any news on the new comp system? Or is this going to be like opening the new poker room and offering alcohol was - where it's going to take 3 years to accomplish?

i hadn't heard about the new comp system, i gave them my card like always, got it back, and went and got free* pizza and apple cinnamon breadstick while awaiting a decision.

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

Headin' up this weekend for lots of poker and golf. Have an extra spot for golf on Saturday morning if someone wants to play. We're not exceptionally good or anything, just have fun spraying balls.

How have the games (1/2, 2/5) been looking? Does PLO ever run? I know they've had an O8 game running recently...

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

Played the golf course last thursday and 2/5 throughout the weekend.

Greens are a little slow and bumpy still, but definitely playable. The new 9 opened on the weekend, so maybe the greens on those holes are better. Rest of the course is in pretty good shape.

2/5 games were great imo.

I'm not sure if plo actually got going, but what was going was round of each of plo and plo8. 1-2-5 structure. not sure on the buy-in.

4/8 limit O8 usually going Friday nights and weekends.

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

Pot limit Omaha games are running well past few weeks thanks to the 1/2/5 structure which lets many people play.

The 2/5 game PLO game is not running because the crazy gamblers left town. It is good for the game anyway long term because it is better to have larger player base.

Limit O8 as running too and one night I saw three tables. I wish they play higher instead of 4/8.

LOL at what you assume the main issue would be.
He probably means PLO/PLO8 when he says mixed.

AFAIK, Winstar can't spread stud games.

I have played HORSE at Choctaw before.

So, please confirm only if you know for fact: are they now playing PLO8 regularly, or is it PLO/PLO8? Even if it's mixed, it might be worth my while to play...

To all the drive complainers: perhaps a move to Denton is in order. Low cost of living, friendly people, lower traffic, most amenities of a city of 100k people, cheap houses, PamFood. Way less hickish and backwards and depressing than Gainesville.

Winstar will spread any game if you have the people to play. I saw them even deal a Heads Up table once.

After black friday, I moved off of 380 just east of Denton. I have a family and they have some great communities over here for not a lot of $. I ws supporting my family as a breakeven SNE on Pokerstars, I'm finding Winstar to be just as profitable.

You go from playing 24 tables down 1 live table and it's amazing the reads you can get on people. Patience is something that needs work after the transition though.

The new south 9 holes are great. Greens were smooth on the south course, but a bit bumpy/sandy on the west. Overall really enjoyed it as there wasn't nearly as much wind as we were expecting. Toured the academy for a voucher for a free round. I definitely recommend it - 10 minutes to tour a surprisingly nice and modern training facility gets you a free round (have to pay cart fees though).

Played predominantly 1/2 and found it to be the usual soft game that it always is. Entertaining and profitable, as per usual. I took a dip into the 2/5 game, but am playing on a short roll before Vegas next week and after getting nothing going, left after an hour or two. Seemed like a decent game though. Splashed around in the O8 game just for fun.

Round of each PLO/PLO8 was up and running with a healthy list. Never sat at it (PLO8 isn't my cup of tea), but looked like chips were moving pretty freely (LOL @ a nitty PLO8 game).

Overall a pretty great weekend up there. I know some people piss and moan about the long walk from the hotel to the pokars, but I rather enjoy it as a nice chance to move around before/after a session.

iPod helps both to bring patience and drown out the ******ed things people say.

I have tried in the past to get a HORSE game at Winstar and have been told stud is not possible multiple times. Do you know this for a fact, or are you just an NLHE player assuming?

Hm, I don't recall, it's been a while. If it was my last session, it might have been because I was tiltspewing maybe?

Denton versus Gainesville, that's right up there with Odysseus choosing between Charybdis and Scylla. Although, I do think I would choose Denton myself.

I witnessed the HU match myself. I have been told by dealers that they will deal any game where they have enough people. Maybe they meant different versions of the games they currently have. (i.e. any stakes you want) So, I was going off what I was told.

No, I have never specifically asked about a stud game. Maybe their dealers don't know how to deal it.
