Hit up Winstar last week for the first time in a few years. Amazing the difference in the size and quality of the place since I was there last time. Had a good experience with the players/dealers/staff and looking forward to going back soon.

Any recommendations on where to stay to save some $$$ without staying at a dump? Those hotel room bills will really gnaw at the BR.

hard to say, depends on your definition of a dump

but there are a bunch of places along I-35 in Gainesville.

i went to winstar for a few days for the frist time in a year and a half. I played 5/10nl during the week and it wasn't as tight as I thought it might have been. I did a hit n run since I wanted to see how the gamed played and i'm not rolled for that game.

I grind 1/2 and 2/5 and as big of a limit game i can find. The 2/5 seems to be a bit of a rock garden and the 1/2 is like all 1/2's. I wonder which is better

How is the action at Winstar on Sundays and Mondays? I know it can't be amazing, but these days are the days I have free most often. i'm mostly interested in 1/2 and a little 2/5. what tournaments are available on these days?

high stakes online refugee thanks for any replies.
Rarely runs except when the annual big tournament is going.

The 2-5 plo plays fairly big though with usually a straddle and stacks averaging over 1k.

Did a 12hr session 2nd time ever at Winstar last night. Played from 3p-3a.

Advance game play for something required in a game such as NL100 PS FR falls into the 'unnecessary' category at 2/5 for me. You just need to avoid playing hero, and how much you make can largely depend on how thin you can value bet.

I hit Winstar once or twice a month. Haven't played since before Black Friday. Have any regulars seen an increase in poker room traffic since? I'm hoping to get back there the weekend after next and was just curious if BF has made a difference there

^^^^

There are some new faces for sure, but IMO dont think numbers of players or action has changed much. Still tons of players and games.

Guys,

I just found this.

I know this is Winstar thread but I want to post details of spring tournament series at Choctaw. You can find it at
http://www.choctawcasinos.com/Durant/Gaming/Poker.aspx

I am confused about various details.
There are tickets for same tournament for three different start times 12pm 4pm and 7pm.
Does anyone know what this is?

Also they have finals on Thursday and Sunday.
Does that mean they combine fields from 2A, 2 and 2C for Thursday and 3A 3B 3C for Sunday?
What if a player is live in multiple events?

I definitely see lot of players with pokerstars backpacks in the room after black Friday.

The bad regulars in 2/5 were getting irritated seeing all the good players.
One regular started abusing online player when he took sometime to call with trips on river.
Next hand he got raised on flop by another reg and he took forever calling with KK on 862hh board with very little money behind. LOL.

This seems contradictory.

A good player wouldn't walk into a poker room with a PokerStars backpack. A wannabe would however.

This.
Please all you online guys stfu with any strategy talk at the table. Try to keep a casual fun gambly atmosphere. Remember that a good poker player is also somewhat of a hustler.

hey fellow dfw - winstar players...

after the last 150 mile, 3 hour, and 30 dollars in gas roundtrip i have come to the conclusion that a gainesville crash pad is in order.

i figure there are tons of dfw players in my exact position. cant play internet poker anymore and are making the roundtrip 16-25 times a month. With what we are spending in gas, 30 a trip , and factoring in the time aspect it seems very dumb that a few players dont chip in 100-200 a month and rent a cheap crash pad in gainesville.

its much cheaper than hotels/ motels and would save so much time and wasted energy in worthless driving.

i have found a couple of decent 2 bedrooms in gainesville between 500-600.

keep in mind this isnt for living....just for crashing between sessions at winstar and stopping the ridiculous 150 mile 3 hour commute.

im very interested in this and would love to talk to anyone interested asap.

please pm..

thanks.

How is it unsafe unless you let shady people in on the apartment sharing?

The shady people aren't from this thread. It's inevitably the friends and friends of friends that come along for the ride. I'm not telling you to not have a flop house, it's a great idea. Just don't do it with strangers from the Internet.

Combining unknowns with thousands of dollars is a stupid combination.

The Quality Inn in Gainesville behind the Braums is kinda dive-ish but clean sheets at least is only like $52 if the ask for the poker rate. They'll let you check in at like 6am Saturday so ur getting 2 nights for $52.

The Days Inn at 82 and I35 is $48 week nights: a liitle closer but no early check in.

P.S. I think I was one of those "angry regs" referred to earlier. LOL.

Actually, I'm psyched for all the new action. Better players for sure, but online players give action, which can be lacking at a table full of old regulars.
:-)

BTW, they are supposed to be changing the comp system this week: no more $8.80 as soon as you sit down, then another in 8 hours. Starting this week they'll be using the players cards to track play: $1/hr. no bueno

That sucks...will the dollars accumulate/roll over, though?

Yes; they say you can accumulate your comps for rooms or dinner etc.
