They wouldn't even give you a discount?

They did offer me a discount to $89 per night. Looks like the regular price is $139 for the specific nights I wanted. Truth be told, $89 a night for that hotel is actually a pretty darned good price considering the quality of the hotel, the room and the amenities. I'm just a greedy !@#$%^&* who wants to stay for free .

Side note - I forgot to mention that the person I spoke to told me that poker actually has nothing to do with getting those discounts. Her guess was that the manager of the poker room added me to the lists. Just passing on what she said.

That's so strange. My offers have dried up, too. In 10 years I've probably only ran $100 through any machines. I would regularly get offers for 4-6 free nights during the week and usually could get more if was in the area for a couple of weeks. But I'm pretty sure none of floor even know me from Adam, with the exception of Rachel who seems to go out of her way to know everyone.

Rachel's the greatest. The last time I went in there it had been years between visits. She remembered my name and asked me about my cousin, by name, who had been a regular over 10 years prior before she moved to San Diego.

Yea, since 2013 I've probably made 6-8 trips per year. Last year, I was in Vegas for a few months and maybe only went to winstar 3 times.

I never even asked about rooms until 2016 probably. Didn't know they even did that for poker until I heard someone talking about it while playing. I asked during the week and got a couple of nights. The address I had on file was wrong and once I updated it I started getting monthly offers. I only used them, or was able to use them, during the week.

Never used the match play or other offers. I think I got my last offer in feb or Mar this year. Funny thing was the last offer came with a free or discounted golf offer. I remember thinking they must be desperate because I've never played golf there, either.

I don't think I even used my first food comp until 2016, either. Had family in Gainesville so I just always ate in town. That first year I used them it seemed like I would never run out. Used them at TKs and MMs at $30-$50 pops for a while.

Usually I stay in the area for a couple of weeks, tho and try to get in as many hours as possible. So, I probably had a bunch of hours built up and they may have carried over from the year before. Not sure how all of that works.

Absolutely. She knows and is nice to everybody. She's been there since the poker room opened in the tiny space in the middle of the casino footprint at that time.

By the way, has anybody heard why the poker room hasn't opened and when it might? I'm hoping they haven't put slots in that space for the time being.

They must have changed food comps if you're using 30-50 at a time. The only food comps I ever got from the poker room was $8.80 per day. Sometimes you could double dip if you played a long session, but they always expired that same day or maybe in 24 hours. No accumulating though, for sure.

That tiny little space was where my first live poker experience was. I don't remember the exact hand, but I got it all in 3 ways, with the worst hand of the 3, and sucked out, tripling up before the chip runner had even brought me my chips. Left soon after, hit and running, thinking Wow, poker is easy.

I think I remember that small space for the poker room. It was just a big alcove, right?

I was there years and years ago and got asked by the brush to help with a language issue in the slot area. A slot player won a jackpot and lived out of the country and had very poor English skills. Staff was unable to explain why they had to take off a certain percent of the money immediately for tax reasons.

And yes, Rachel is an amazing staff person!

I was there opening day of the original room. Probably 2004? They opened every table as 5/10 limit, yes limit. Everybody wanted to play no limit and all the older floor people didn't get it. Think they finally opened up some no limit tables. About all I remember.

Never mind.

I like limit too, just not the version they play at Winstar. Start up some 15/30 or 20/40 and I'm there...post covid, lol.

I was surprised that they were able to change the 5/10 O8 game to 10/20, but nobody was interested in any LHE larger than 4/8. I mean come on at least gives us 5/10 so we can play with mostly red chips!

I haven't been there in a long time. Had no idea they had bumped up the O8 game.

Agree with it not but limit HE is almost always 2-4, 4-8, 8-16. Then maybe a red chip game of 10-20 but normally 15-30. Seems it is preferred to have a bunch of white chips instead of a few red in the middle.

But there really needs to be a stake be tween 8-16 and 15-30. Just too big of a jump in my opinion. Tough to get people to make that move up.

When people ask on twitter, WinStar continues to reply that "Poker is suspended until further notice." The longer this goes on makes me concerned that poker might not ever come back there.

I don't know if I'd go that far yet. Nothing has really changed since three months ago in terms of safety. If they weren't ready and willing to do it then, there's not a lot of reason for that change anytime soon, especially considering their traffic would be down in the interim.

That said, the room is going to take a hit in the long term because of the quasi-legal Texas games, so who knows - they might just let Choctaw take the action.

I don't know about Rachel. She always punches me in the ribs when she walks past me at the tables.
