Hahaha. It's more important to be close to a poker room.... but don't tell my wife. I will be traveling a lot through out the mid west and flying twice a month. I like the idea of Denton being only 35 minutes from Winstar. Presently, I'm one hour and a half from Atlantic City and 7 miles from the place that I play at least four times per week which is Delaware Park. I'm coming into Texas tomorrow, but won't be in Dallas until Thursday. I plan to look for houses to buy/rent Friday and try out the Winstar poker room on Friday night. I was thinking rent until I got my barrings, but prices are better for purchase. Back to the east coast on Saturday and back to Texas May 14. I'm basically a poker degen with a job.

I can speak positively about Denton where I live. Sanger is about 10 miles closer to WinStar and would possibly have better housing deals. Gainesville is much closer, 5 to 10 miles depending on where you settle. Gainesville Tx is a small town however. There is decent housing available however.

Denton is a college town and depending on where you are on your life's journey you may have trouble finding apartments with neighbors you can stand. I haven't been to many of the complexes here but they strike me as mostly dumpy and full of teenagers.

You should be able to find a house to rent, though. And it's a great place to own a house when you're ready to do that.

I really like the NW area of the DFW Metroplex. Lewisville, Flower Mound, Grapevine, Southlake, Keller, Westlake, Trophy Club, Roanoke. It's close to DFW Airport, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Arlington, 35E, 35W, 121. About an hour from Winstar and 1.5 hours from Choctaw. If you have children, I recommend this area because the NW School District and the Keller School District are both ranked very, very high. Plus it's a really nice area to live. North Dallas is also very nice, Addison, Plano, Frisco, McKinney. This area is closer to Choctaw and further away from Ft. Worth.

It's worth mentioning that I-35 splits in Denton and becomes two roads, one cuts through the center of Dallas and the other cuts through the center of Ft Worth. It then meets up again south of both cities.

DFW airport is located in the area between I-35 E and I-35 W. Closer to Dallas though.

WinStar is immediately off of I-35 one mile into Oklahoma for those who don't know.

Yeah, be sure to look in Denton and Sanger. Sounds like just what you're looking for.

Since poker is more important than airport, you should live in Denton. If you go to the casino directly from Denton you will bypass all of the Dallas traffic that one has to deal with coming from other metroplex suburbs. Neither Dallas airport will be that close, which is a function of their location relative to the casinos.

Does anyone have a link to the poker room promotions? Like what days and times are aces cracked or splash pots? I could not find it on Winstar's website.

I'm not sure if there is a page that shows when those type of promotions run. Aces cracked is Tuesday and Thursday though. 8 to midnight.

Anyone played the golf course yet this year? Heading up in 2 weeks which means they'll probably sand/plug the greens in a week and a half.

Matt,
I was told by a couple people, who I sat on the same table with, that the golf course is fine and they played on it early this year.

havent played the course in a few weeks, but it's generally pretty nice

with the 3rd nine now I'd imagine they would spread out the aeration so they always have 18 holes in good shape

The new academy is open and the range is finally back on the grass. It's a great golfing facility, I definitely recommend it.

I guess you have to call. I went to their website to quickly get that link for you and , wow, everything's changed on there. Not for the better either. At least from a poker standpoint...

well, it's been fun winstar.

went in sunday afternoon and was supposed to leave that night.

i ended up putting in the longest poker session i've ever played and left tuesday just before noon. it was a pretty wild ride, but i think my win-rate ended up being about $4/hour over all at 2/5...lol.

i pissed off my fiance to no end (and her mom), so i probably won't be back until next summer at the earliest.

C'est La Via ragetones. I am sure if you can stay away from action at the Winstar for a year you will be back in their good graces. At least, let's hope so.

Looking forward to playing at Winstar semi reg. Moving to Plano on July 20. I guess an hour and a half drive. Been playing about 4 times per week at Delaware Park, but am only 10 minutes away. I'm sure the drive will trim down my playing time
