Did you play the 2/5 or 1/2 last night?

Sands is a nice room. I play NL time to time there. Will never play O8o again. Even if there is a game. Just don't like playing FR to 5-7 handed every hour on the hour. One second your full rake, next your half rake...but the dealer sometimes takes the full rake cause he/she forgot. Plus they take by mistake a BBJ sometimes...you really have to watch the dealer more than the players in the game. Too much work for me after working a long day.

At least Sands is NOT Hollywood and MSun.

I myself never get up from the O8 game from the time it starts until it breaks or until I leave for good. Have a bladder of steel and may get up once max to use restroom for 5 minutes max entire session. I agree it is a shame you have to remind dealer every change it is half rake if game is playing 6 or less. As far as them taking a BBJ sometimes it never happens. They put a piece of tape over the BBJ slot so they could not accidentally drop a chip even if they tried. They always tape up the slot at same time as putting in placard before first hand is dealt. How nitty could the table be when 6 players take a flop on raised preflop hands over half the time? I would rather deal with the little nuisances at Sands vs. the soft playing regs. that you see constantly at PARX IMO. Played at Parx in the O/E game three times and always same villains betting you out of pots and then checking it down. You do not see that unethical/collusion play at Sands in their O8 game.

Both Sands and PARX are a hike and a half for me. The O/8 players at the Sands seem much looser. Often having 5+ people seeing a raised preflop.

I too, don't like the collusion at PARX when the regulars bet you out then check it down.

I asked because I played next to someone else that was trying the sands for first time. He was also a regular at Mt. Airy....I was playing 1/2.

I've skipped work a bunch of times to play during the week. I arrive around 10am and there's usually a couple 1/2NL tables running and maybe one 2/5NL. Between 10am - 12noon they'll gradually open more 1/2s and 2/5s, and then a 5/5 early afternoon. In my opinion the action has been pretty good and is worth checking out.

Thanks Force, sounds pretty good for a weekday compared to most of the AC rooms. Will definitely try to get down there since I much rather play in the daytime.

Just got back from a session at the Sands.
Arrived around 8am, only had 1 2-5 table and 1 5-5 table going. No 1-2.
I got on the 1-2 interest list, and the table opened around 8:30. After that, a steady stream of 1-2 and 2-5 tables opened throughout the morning. It seemed to be around 10 when the room started to fill up.

Does anyone know any good night-life spots near Sands? I play here a lot but I never really found a good night spot to go with my friends. One time we took a ride into Bethlehem on those numbered streets where there bars but they actually seemed pretty dead and it was a Friday night. I also been to a place called Firehouse a year ago... pretty much a college bar and even that was kind of dead.

Isn't there a good place where a lot of young locals might go? Let's say 21-40?

Someone told me about a place called Melt? but that was years ago.

Thanks all!

i can only speak of one place i've been to because my girlfriend's friend made us go after i was playing poker. went to a place called pigpen one town over. place was awesome. like a mix between dave and busters (with games), a bowling alley, hooters (with the food and waitresses) and a big bar with a band. place was filled with people from 20 to 40 i'd say. lots of loose women. two extremely drunk girls hit on me right in front of my girlfriend (and i'm no prize)! of course, it was just one time i've been there. but it was fun.

Re: nitelife
South bethlehem (.75 - 1.5 miles down 3rd st): everything is walkin distance from lehigh u so mostly college kids. macgradys, starters, mollys, sotto santi, tally ho, firehouse, funhouse, your welcome, loopers. Macgradys and starters are most popular, starters is the biggest place similar to pigppen (sportsbar, gameroom, doubles as a club on fri/sat nite). Rest are hit or miss basically.

North bethlehem: brewworks and the bookstore are nicer more upscale, roosevelts is a popular college bar near moravian.

I don't know much about allentown aside from pigpen...its the most popular and is like 5-6 miles/15 min away

t.j whillahens or however you spell it is a good spot for the older crowd (30+), and watch out at starters there seems to be a stabbing there every weekend. molly's gets lehigh crowd while mcgradys gets the hood locals. sotto santi's has bangin $1 slices of pizza a great night capper. Roosevelts thursday $1 well drinks from 8 or 9-12 gets crazy and has the best mix i go there a lot

O8 ran last night from 8:30 until 5:30 this morning. It was a really good game, tons of kill pots. There was also a lot of new faces which is a good sign and played full table for majority of night. It will probably not go tonight though.

You gotta make sure the dealers swipe you into the right seat and if you request a seat change make sure they move you to the proper seat on bravo.

If your looking for great food while playing in Bethlehem try; http://www.nawabcuisine.com/
its on point. If Mexican is your bag La Lupita is authentic and well priced. Nightlife is tough in Bethlehem, one spot that you might not hear about too much is "The Funhouse" a dive bar/live music venue where "Fun people meet".
Both of those locations are a short drive from the sands and located in south bethlehem.
