I'm getting pretty excited about checking this room out, even though it's just about as far of a drive as Atlantic City.

Im hoping the room is well run too. I live in Staten Island and Sands is about a 50 minute drive compared to AC which is 90 mins or so.

Glad to hear some of this news trickling in about the Sands. I'm playing 1/3NL and 2/5NL here in LA, but want to make the pilgrimage back east mid/late July to visit with family and to check out the new room.

Before I book the plane rez, I would really like to hear more info as it becomes available.

Looks like room opens Friday July 16th- my guess is that games should be good right away, but would anyone suggest best plan for an out-of-towner to attack the action?

How soon is soon enough for things to iron themselves out in a new room? Do you think the action will be good right away, then fizzle out? Any thoughts?

If the action is bad at the Sands you will have 4 different places you could travel too.

MS@PD about an Hour and 15.
Mt. Airy about an Hour
Hollywood Park about an Hour and 15.

It remains to be seen which cardroom in North Eastern PA (I know Chester is not North East and the Sands is borderline) is going to have the best action.

I think they have to do a 48 hour test run which i think there was a post on this tread saying that the games will be limit during that time. I'm guessing that regular games would start Sunday 18th or Monday the 19th?

Agreed. There is no way he is getting to Sands in 50 minutes from Staten Island. Sands is about 70 miles from the Outerbridge. An hour and 15 minutes or so is more realistic.

Philadelphia Park is actually slightly closer, depending on where you are on Staten Island.

Im at the outerbridge and I know for sure I can get there in less than an hour. The speed limit is 65 and the cops wont pull you over cruising at 80. I can make it to Allentown in 1hr 20minutes or so.

And Philadelphia is 90 minutes away from me

New Yorkers always exaggerate times when driving. What street in Staten Island are you coming from?

I would gladly give you 5-1 on any amount of $ that we can escrow that you can't make it in 50 minutes.

Id say its possible. 1 exit up to 78 and then 78 straight through. I've done Allentown in 1:05 from the meadowlands

Took another trip down to the Sands yesterday. No major news to report on the poker room. They upholstered the tables. The tops are green with a black leather rail (no cup holders)

Man right in the middle of the floor looks kind cramped, it's gonna be noisy. It's going to be interesting who in the area makes the move first to expand their poker room and become the premier destination.

You guys should really check out Wilmington's room and it would cut down on lots of the babbling and speculation here. They have around 30 tables. The biggest game during the week is 2-5 NL. On the weekends they have 5-10 and allegedly 10-20NL. Every table is full on the weekends with 100+ names on the 1-2 and 2-5 NL lists. They have never had a limit game go off higher than 10-20 that i know of. I would assume that this room will be slightly worse with 12 tables. It's going to be VERY hard to appease the lower limit players and have money flow to the mid level games with no bottom feeders. With 12 tables you're going to have to tip the floor people VERY WELL to get at the top of the list for the small 1-2 and 2-5 NL games especially on the weekends.

The room in Wilmington is also surrounded by slot machines.

So, why would they need to drive 45+mins. to a casino to play???

100 name waiting lists? Ummm I highly doubt that. You could drive to another poker room 3+ hours away before you'd even get seated lol.

He's talking about Delaware Park. The list for 1-2 was 70 deep on opening weekend. But the room has only been open ~2 weeks, so I don't see that kind of volume lasting. Also, they only have 20 tables.

I'm not sure why he felt compelled to come into this thread and promote DP. While they do have a very nice room, I can literally walk to the Sands, so Sands' poker would really have to suck for me to drive 1.5 hours to DP.

Because sometimes people get sick of the ridonkoulous rake that you see in NYC games (1/3 to $15, 2/5 to $30, or the occasional uncapped rake...)

I am not promoting DP at all. The games are way too small for me to consider playing, same with the Sands. However, I am pointing out that with only 12 tables you're certainly going to have lists 50 deep (especially fri-sun) for 1-2 and possibly 2-5 NL and you're going to have a max of 3 tables for each. It's going to be a giant thumb up your ass festival with lots of people who do get seats taking long breaks so as not to lose them.

Might have a list of 10 or so on opening weekend. After that prolly open seating.

That's funny...there's 3 poker rooms in my town alone. A high, a medium, and a low stakes room. Some are more greedy that others with the rake. But guess what, there's always a full crowd in each one when they're open. And Atlantic City is only 2 hours away.

So basically, if you build it, they will come!

I think massive crowds like that in PA can only benefit us. If it gets that busy the casinos will be chomping at the bit to expand their poker rooms and make more money.
