Due to the forecasted snows on Thursday into Friday the following amendments have been made to the Deep Stack Extravaganza schedule in the interest of the safety of our guests:

Thursday $200 Buy-in Flight 1B has been cancelled;

Friday $200 Buy-in Flight 1C will have a late start at 12pm;

The $100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool will still be honored for this event.

Just finished day 1A of the 100k deepstacks tournament. Nice day and well run but I have one observation.

They decided to stop play with 6 minutes left at the level of 500 - 2500 - 5000. I think there were 38 or 39 of us left.

This means to ensure an equal playing field that flights 1C and 1D (1B cancelled due to snow) must play until 6 minutes left of this same blinds level. Why might this create an odd situation? What if because of bad weather only 100 people end up playing on Friday?

In that scenario it would not be surprising to see only a few advance to day 2 because there will not be nearly as many chips in play.

I know everything has to be approved by the state of PA but it would have made a lot more sense to set some min payouts based on 100k and pay out a certain % from each day with another set % returning for day 2. Commerce has a a 1M guarantee coming up with 18 day 1's so its easy to look up how this type of tournament is normally done by the largest poker room in the world.

Who knows though. Maybe another 295 show up on Friday and Sat. GL and see you on Sunday.

2 things i forgot to add:
#1) they usually roll back the blinds level to the earliest ending time from the multiple days with the set % figures already in place in these type of tournaments

#2) Thanks to the Sands and its staff for the free drinks and snacks all day. I think I had 10 cups of coffee and it was a really nice touch for the tournament to provide that stuff.

Payout a certain percentage from each day? I plan on playing the next flight whenever that may be, I bet Friday gets canned too due to predictions of 6-10" of snow Today thru Friday at 1PM.

It is my understanding that top 10% of players are in the money from the entire tournament. If they stopped play at 13% of the starting field of 295 Wednesday, technically none of you are guaranteed payouts yet. I think if anything players being in a flight of 1/3 of the runners will be in a disadvantage going into day 2 vs. the remaining players of Flight 1.

Yeah but in the end, you are still only playing on your table.. whether the table count goes from 10 to 23 (vs 20) shouldn't change much.

I don't think the other 2/3 players are getting much of an advantage.

I'm hoping the PLO on Jan 10th: http://www.pasands.com/uploadedFiles...11.pdf#zoom=75 get more than the 11 players they got in Dec. 2pm this time, and no Borgata open to compete against.. maybe people will actually turn out for this one.

Post blind structure?

They always have tough times filling tournies unless it's a guarantee.

Online poker has been pretty sparse, I don't think it will have any effect.

I'm glad you chose to run tomorrow on a delay instead of cancelling it. This should help keep down the numbers on Saturday's turnout allowing for more cash games in the poker room later in day. Running on Friday should keep Saturday's count around 300 hopefully.

I agree, delaying it should work. Hopefully, the snow stops around 10 or 11 and it still gives everyone (including me) plenty of time to get there. Anyone know how it'll work if there's not that many runners? I assume you would need at least 100 runners or so? Or at least 50-60?

...... That's at approx 9:45pm.

Shouldn't the dinner break be after level 10 (7:30pm) or level 12 (8:30pm)?

The structure seems based on a 12pm start, not 2pm. Having dinner from 10-11pm may keep people from entering, as many like to try to double up or bust before dinner so they can get home on time.

thanks.

Like usual, very well run event with great structure today. Tomorrow's flight will probably swamped, they had 255 entries today and road conditions were horrible. Downstairs is the best place to play, snacks and drinks laid out and free wi-fi. Never knew they had wi-fi down there until today, big plus for an already dynamite atmosphere. Smoke free, noise free, and much better tables than the cash game tables with the knee knocker ends.

Yes, we know, you like the downstairs. I'm not sure why it needs to be repeated multiple multiple (see what i did there) times. I actually got here a little late today and get to play upstairs. Yes! So much better.

Your right njguy, I do have bad habit to repeat myself sometimes. If you are there today njguy, lets try to get the PLO going again. I forgot I even posted about downstairs before TBH.

Jamie Gold in today's flight.

Waste of time trying to play any 1/2 today. Around 2:00 there were 80+ on the wait list since everything was tied up with the tourney. I waited an hour and when there were a total of 2 names called during that period, I gave up.

It was even more annoying that they called the 5/10 game and couldn't fill it, at least while I was watching. Great, they've got 8 tables waiting for 1/2 and they call the one game they can't fill. I'm sure they make more on the rake that way, but doesn't do much to cheer the customers waiting.

Wuh? 5$ max rake on both games, right?

Though I don't play 5/10, you could almost argue 1/2 would potentially have more rake as a flop is seen 95%+ of the time.

Sandsman when the PLO runs there do they play 4 card or 5 these days? I'm looking to come back in a few weeks, it's been a while since I'd played some live Omaha.

I would argue that rake collection is higher per table per hour on 5/10 given one preflop raise which is between 30-50 and one caller you have max rake at 5 bucks. There is more "tanking" in 5/10 so that may result in fewer hands per hour. Hands also do not make it to the river in 5/10 as often as in 1/2 so this may bring the HPH count back up even with tanking considerations.

Whenever you see PLO or Omaha H/L on bravo or PASands.com site it is 4 card omaha. Big O is 5 card omaha played pot limit and Hi/Low. Big Easy is 5 card omaha played hi only but very rarely goes. Big Easy may of been played 4 times since Sands opened.

Do they rake 5/10 or take time? Can't imagine 5/10 rake is more than $5/hand. In any case I'd wager even if raked the house would make more at 1/2.
