One of the many reasons I only play in casinos and never charity rooms.

Will be staying near Maple City labor day weekend...what are my options for card games between Chicago and there? Anything appealing?

OK ... Time to crank this baby back up after almost a year of hibernation.

Was going to start a 'West Michigan' thread but I will take a wack at this one also.

Who is doing what?

Woodys
TJs East (Centerpointe bowling), West (Lincoln CC) and North (Shamrock)
Westgate

Rumors of a start up in Holland again ...

Lets do this ... GL

I posted in the Grand Rapids thread, but maybe a West Michigan thread is more appropriate. Lets include ...

Soaring Eagle
Fire Keepers
Turtle Creek
Charity Poker from Lansing to Lake Michigan

There is plenty of good poker being played 'over here' ... just not sure how many are on this site.

Let's find out ...

First Item: HPT Event #1 starts tomorrow at Soaring Eagle 11:00 start

This is a 1A/1B $300 BI ($270 + 30) tournament Friday and Saturday with Day 2 on Sunday (also 11:00 start, play to winner). Shows they will play a certain amount of levels or down to 20% of the field going to Day 2.

This is a re-entry tournament and I believe you can play both Day 1s and take the biggest stack to Day 2.

This event is a lead into next week's 'big' week at Soaring Eagle for the HPT Tour stop. 4 Day 1s with Day 2 Sunday and Final Table Monday .. $1650 BI I believe.

Check out the HPT.com web site for more information and tournament structures. GL

HPT Main Event starts next Thursday with Day 1A (4:00??), Friday (1B) and Saturday (1C and 1D) ... Day 2 Sunday and TV Final Table on Monday.

$1650 BI ?

Possibly a weaker tournament than expected since there is a WPTDP at Ameristar the same weekend. Doesn't mean that someone might try both, but the Saturday starters from the Chicago area may choose to stay closer to home.

Take that with a grain of salt ... weaker players means better chance to win .. but you might be winning less $$ as a result. Hey, a title is a title .. jump on this. GL

Almost time to head to Soaring Eagle for Day 1A of $300 Event #1 of the HPT stop there. First stop on this 'season' for the HPT tour.

MSPT has Firekeepers, so lets give HPT a good showing ... cards in the air at 11:00 today (Friday) and Saturday (Day 1B) with Day 2 set for Sunday down to winner. GL

But can an already licensed supplier open a new location?

They have been issuing new license since jan 2014 .. and existing can open mutiple locations. You can even have 2 charities in one day as long as there is an hour break between. No location can be open for more than 4 days per week.

Bombed out of event after 3rd break. Boat over boat (after the money went in) and then 5 straight chopped all in pots .. lost my AT v KQ .

Great cash games after .. one of the few times a year you will find 2/5 at Soaring. Also nice that PLO is eligible for straight flush bonus and has its own BBJ.

I will probably be back Sunday for cash and to sweat the Day 2 action.

HPT ME single table SnGs are running very regularly ... GL

More good cash at Soaring Eagle on Sunday. Got there early so I wouldn't be squeezed out by the tournaments going on for the HPT. They never got the 2/5 game going but in my 1/2 game we were opening for anywhere from 16 to 30 on a regular basis and getting 3 to the Flop!!

1) Event #1 - $300 BI .. had 450 players over 2 days and paid 45 on Day 2 (Sunday). They could've had a much bigger tournament, but 'no room at the Inn' and they lost a bunch of rake with the long cash game lists.

2) Thought I was dreaming but ... When the tournament went HU .. The BB was on the Button!! I saw an observer ask The Floor about it, but I didn't hear the explanation and didn't want to bug them again.

I really hope that the HPT ME goes well. Lots of 'newer' dealers and the HPT is a national event of course, so there is a bit of a spot light there.

Back at it on a Monday GR ... Rounders (Woody's Press Box) opens at 10:00 through 4:30 ($400 BI) with 2nd shift at 5:30 ($300 BI). Monday night is RxR night at 7pm.

Call to be put on list up to 1 hour ahead for 1/2 cash or RxR reservation (first come first serve, any time all day).

"Eastbrook" Bowling (TJ's of old near Centerpointe Mall) is also open on Monday nights for cash and tournament. I don't have their numbers. GL

Last chance for a day game this week today at Woody's Press Box .. 10:00am.

HPT is at Soaring Eagle ... take a drive and get some 2/5 or fishy 1/2 the next few days. They have their 'normal' crazy PLO on Fri/Sat as well. One thing I didn't know is that if you get a straight flush in PLO it applies to their promotion and you get paid!! Doesn't make the 1/2 crowd happy, but an extra incentive to play PLO I guess.

HPT is in bingo hall, so there should be plenty of room in the poker area for games to get going. GL

66 Players for Day 1A at Soaring Eagle yesterday .. I think 18 moved on to Day 2 after a full day. That means that all the other Day 1s will play to the same 'mark' on the clock. GL

What a final hand last night at Soaring Eagle for the HPT ME!!

Apparently 2 'poker buddies' ended up HU with one of them being a top 5 chip stack for basically the whole time and the other coming from the rear at final table. I didn't see all of the hands but the chip lead changed over on a couple of hands and then was pretty stagnant ... leaving the web announcers with little to talk about but Robert Williamson III did a great job of carrying the load along with @HPTDave.

On to the hand ... After a PF 3-bet and call. Flop of KJ5 comes out. The shorter stack leads out, gets raised and then shoves .. getting called.

Short stack AA ... PF domination
Chip leader KJ ... Monster Flop of 2 pair

Turn ... 5 ... Short re-sucks

River .. J ... Chip leader (now winner) re-re-sucks out!!

At least they both can say they played well and neither really outplayed the other on the final hand. Which is probably the best way for them to stay friends in the long run. GL

Great final hand at Soaring Eagle for the HPT ME .. check it out for a suck, re-suck ... re-re-suck final hand. Players were good friends so it's probably best that it ended that way. Too bad for the loser as he was top 5 chips stack going way back in the tourny, but as it usually works out the chip leader rarely wins these things.

Woody's was good day action on Monday ... still teetering on getting a 2nd table going from one day to the next. Need just 3 or 4 more to show up around 11:30-12:30. Not much turnover from starting table and stacks were pretty deep after a pretty lame 1st hour.

The list for Monday night RxR was already 12 deep at Noon ... GL

The day game runs from 10:00 am to 4:40 pm .. $400 BI 1/2 - You usually need to call in if you want to have a seat at the starting table. (616-588-2192) This game is usually pretty good and runs all day. A 2nd table can get going anywhere from 11:30 to 1:30 depending on daily interest. That game is usually a little looser. People will drop out of the main table all day so you usually only wait about 30 min max.

The night game runs from 5:40 pm to 1:40 am .. $300 BI 1/2. They do have a Monday RxR game and you will need to call in early in the day to start at that table. They can run out of chips by 12:00 am but the game usually runs through closing, even shorthanded.

Daily lunch buffet and food specials M-R.

These games rival any casino game that I have seen ... GL

It's amazing how many folks are super sour about Soaring Eagle. They do have their issues for sure, but I have found the games there to be just as good as anywhere else. I am not there too much, but as long as I remember to tell myself to watch out (and stay calm) for some of the stuff that I'm told can happen I think a game is a game. I don't know how they comp, but I had plenty of cash on my card to eat just from playing the same day!!

Great Tuesday night 1-3-5 RxR action at Firekeepers!! Game got going around 7:20 and ran until past 3:00 am. Couple of really interesting pots and action along the way. One lucky gent pocketed over $4k easy (just in bills) .. quite a bunch of that was from a 3-way all in where he held QQJT and won with a set!!

Firekeepers is running an August promotion on Wednesdays with drawings at certain times of the day. Not sure if it's a splash pot or high hand or what but there is a sign at the entrance to the poker room. They only had 3 tables going last night at 10:00 per Bravo app but I have always found 1/2 stacks at $800 plus when I go there. This promo is in addition to their 'high hand' $250 bonus that runs daily every 4 hours. GL
