Pretty dismal turn out for the black chip bounty. 129 runners.

This might not exactly be West Michigan related, but noticed today that Four Winds South Bend is opening a poker room soon. 10 tables. Live dealers. Details on the website. Construction started in mid-July and it should be open by Labor Day. If only Gun Lake moved that fast. Or even announced some details like Four Winds has.

Should draw a few more people away from Firekeepers. It's also nice to see Four Winds offer live poker. I still can't believe FW New Buffalo doesn't have a poker room, even with the Horseshoe somewhat nearby. I never go there, but would if they had poker. Hopefully they'll have success at South Bend, and they'll expand. Maybe soon.

Interesting location ... There's a charity room just into Michigan that serves South Bend. Was only 5-handed RxR when I was there in the Summer and they acted like that was normal with 2-3 table tournaments. Not sure the college kids will wander to the south side of the city to play or if they expect the locals (and some truckers) to fill the bill.

FW NB screwed up with the animated tables and with BC still in the market I don't see how they would be happy with whatever they get in there. GL

FK is awesome for poker, indeed. I've only been going there for ~4 years, but it's amazing to see all of the improvements/expansions they've made to the poker room within that time frame alone.

Staff is 95% excellent, and most of the regs are cool and calm. Some are toxic, but that's anywhere you go that involves gambling.

I love that PLO has really surged within the last couple years at FK. When I was there last Thurs, there were two full PLO tables at 5PM with a small waiting list. I was a the must-move table, but it was for sure juicier/deeper/crazier than the main game.

I just hope GLC has a good hourly comp- Firekeepers is finally changing theirs to $1 because of GLC...... I use to play at Four Winds NB when they had LIVE tables and remember them bringing in Phil Ivey to promote the room!!!!!!!

GLC is twice as far away as FK for me, so I'll probably never check it out. When it opens, it would be nice to see some pics.

According to the press release, FW SB says they added the poker room due to high demand. Those animated tables were horrible, for sure. I agree with your take. It's just so strange to me to have such a large, high profile casino like NB without a poker room. It probably wouldn't be a huge draw, but poker is so red hot right now, it seems like if there were high demand at SB, there would be at NB as well.

Cool to see Firekeepers bump up their comps. You'd think GL would have their comps at $1 to be competitive. I'm really hoping all the competition will translate into more promos and players. For example, I think a $250 high hand every 4 hours is a little on the low end when casinos are doing more than that every 15-60 minutes at times. $1,000 lucky seats every hour, even just for one day, is way better.

I'll take some and try to figure out how to post them. I understand where you're coming from. FK is 75 minutes away from me; GL only 25. FK is just far enough away where it's hard to go. On days where I can only play 2 hours, GL is close enough where I can do that.

I agree with you regarding FK's staff. So many long time dealers there. I've been to GL countless times, and the people that work there that I know treat me and my family (who go nearly daily) really well. Valet, servers, buffet hosts/staff, security, waitresses in the cafe, custodial, the former food court (I miss Johnny Rockets), and the suits. All top notch people. I have absolutely no doubt that the staff in the GL poker room will be at the same level as FK. Hopefully it's on the level and worth a trip for you some time.

Both Gun Lake and Four Winds South Bend are up on Bravo. No details yet, just "coming soon". Awesome.

That would be amazing. Food options, especially snacks/appetizers are limited at Gun Lake at the moment, now with the food court gone. I'm not sure if Stage 131 serves food anymore, either. They used to have a decent appetizer menu. The cafe is good, but limited, and their dinners are expensive as well. You can get a half pound burger and fries for $6 ($8.50 for a bacon cheeseburger) and it's pretty good. If Gun Lake adds anything else in the future, it should be a Food Court type cafe like the one at FK.

The buffet is good (better than FK, IMO), but expensive at full price. The lunch buffet isn't that different than the dinner buffet, and if you go on 50% off days, it's under $10. That's the time to go. The buffet was dead Saturday night, while the cafe was busy.

Good catch on Bravo- seeing 10 miles away puts a smile on my face. South bend only an hour drive might be worth a peek too. Yup food options are lacking at GLC. They need pizza back in the biatch

SM is 'everywhere' these days ... lots of gas in his jet ski.

King's Room is attempting a new check-in process today for the morning sessions Thursday to Saturday. They will 'accept' texts from 830 to 930 for both the PLO and NL games with the first texts in getting their spot at the table. The Floor will come in and set up the lists from 930 to 945 before opening the back door to any Players. They want to keep the front door locked until 1030 or so to force Players to park in the back but I think the fire code would prevent that from being the case. Make sure you specify which game you want to play (or both) in your text.

My initial issue with this is that I could send my text and have no idea if I made the first table until after my 'long' drive. The PLO starting lineup lasted over 3 1/2 hours last week. The floor WILL NOT have the phone with them and only after turning the phone on at 930 will the flood of texts come in, presumable in the 'correct' order. I'm sure that Players will want to see 'proof' of how their texts came in as well so that will be interesting for the Floor to handle.

Interesting conversation about whether or not the higher stake games will take off at GL ... A very solid conclusion was that GL wont be as much of a 'credit' source and that may limit how deep these games go. It's safe to say that writing a check is much easier than hauling around cash!! GL

Room update- check-in counter is all set up. Walls with some strange artistic wood design on them are almost done too(they were working on them)..I also noticed a wooden rail to the left of the check-in counter which could be a viewing rail. It's moving nicely..... Side note they have laid foundation on hotel in Wayland which will act like quality inn does to Firekeepers

Very nice. Construction was ongoing even on a Saturday afternoon, as I could hear them hard at work in there. Not too much longer!

I spent 12 hours at firekeepers yesterday. Half of which were playing poker. Was at some pretty juicy tables - including one with a guy who won $9000 from a promotion and was spewing.. I couldn't get anything going. I stuck pretty good. I then turned to black jack and ended up grinding out a very small profit... I do not recommend this lifestyle...

Yes Dawson the time is near

Back in GR for my junior year at grand valley, excited to turn 21 so I can start hitting up gun lake and get some real casino experience. Anyways whats the situation like at kings these days? When does PLO run? How soon do chips sell out in the afternoon? Is it worth driving an extra 15 minutes to play in Jacks Mon-Wed or should I just stick to eastbrook? gl gl

Was just sent a picture from my family who are at Gun Lake as I type this. Temporary wall of the poker room came down today! It looks almost done, if not completely done! It's curtained off at the moment, but the top part of the room is exposed. I'm gonna go check it out first chance I can.

Also received the mailer today from GL, and it says "Open in September". I bet it's early September.

I went and looked at it today. They could get it opened this week if they wanted. I just think there are some kinks that we probably don't know about that is preventing that. The room is going to look amazing. I live in Dorr which is a stone's throw away and will be very happy to call it my poker room
