One of the articles I read mentioned that Indian casinos would need to have their online servers located on casino property, so online in MI might be limited to MI casino websites and a MI lottery site for a little while (which is fine by me).

A little bump to the thread here ... been busy myself anyways.

King's is still King's during the Thursday 'day' session. PLO table got going before Noon and they were out of chips by 330. Not much of a list day, but PLO plus two cash games were running well.

Be patient with some rulings/procedures I think at Jacks/Kings. There was some discussion about inconsistencies cropping up and some were pressing for a meeting to get everyone back to square one with how Bob wants the room to operate. Apparently he was out of town for a bit as well, which may have added to the frey. I still say there should be a shift folder/diary with 'happenings' that Bob could review and comment on. Then all Dealers and Floors 'must' go through the folder every week to make sure of anything that may have happened while they were away. Nothing about a specific player, unless banned, but rulings and issues where everyone can learn and be consistent.

Ended up at FKeepers Thursday night, busy as usual. They did have a $1K HH going that hit by 6PM. Very unusual for them. PLO, 2/5 and 1/2 ... They also changed their Thursday tournament to RxR instead of just PLO.

Don't forget that this is a 5th Sunday month ... July 29th. GL

Not a poker post, but I just got back from a camping trip in Allendale. My father in law was trying to give me directions around the area. He kept saying "take 96 to I-96" and I was confused as hell. I finally figured out he calls 196 "I-96." This isnt a common thing is it? My father in law is a truck driver who has spent the better part of 40 years driving local routes all over southern Michigan. I cannot imagine this is the first time he has done that, and I can only wonder how many extra miles have been driven due to this confusion.

Many years ago my uncle, who lived in the Flint area, was following my E-mailed instructions to get to our home in Muskegon. He misread I-96 as I-196 and wound up in Holland.

Surprised there hasn't been any posts about Nic Manion from Muskegon and his deep run in the main. Played with him quite a few times at northway lanes in muskegon.
109 left, he's sitting with 1,395,000 avg is 3,611,927.
Cool seeing someone I've actually played with doing good. Go go go!

NManion has done well to stay out of the 'highlight' posts and TV tables for the most part. I did run across a couple of players who knew him from Muskegon but I don't think I've played against him.

He's still in there along with Cada. I don't think Michigan has had a very good WSOP in general, but two top 26 finishers shows some props to the players here. There were a couple others who made top 110 as well, I think .. NCushman (Saginaw). GL

Very weird that they aren't really advertising a target date. I talked to a couple of Pit Boss' and they were pretty tight lipped about it. A cashier said it would open when the parking garage opens, which 'was' advertised for October.

Reports from SEagle are mixed .. nice room but not very efficient along with a few oddities about TV placements. The glass drastically reduces the noise coming from the Floor, which is a very good thing to me.

I played at Planet Hollywood in Vegas and your head can start spinning from everything that's going on around you. Their poker room is basically in the middle of the casino floor. GL

To add to Chaz's list of poker tournaments this late Summer/Fall ...

$350 Black Chip Bounty at FKeepers Sunday August 19th, 20k chips w 30 min levels.

So a $250 BI and you have to have a black chip on the table as a bounty as well. This tournament went very well the last time with "Internet Jake" pretty much running it over ... There should be a previous post in this thread for more specific information. GL

There is no set date yet, but they have announced "late summer" in press releases. Harvest Buffet, Chill, the new Stage 131, and the high limit room all opened on time. If the poker room is late, it will be a first. I'm optimistic.

The high limit slots room sat empty for months, and then within a month, it was done. Gun Lake has never been slow with construction projects.

Either way, we're talking a month's difference. It's already been 4 since I've learned the poker room was coming, and 8 since the food court closed down. I really doubt Gun Lake is interested in dragging their feet on this. It will be open soon.

Gun Lake's room is also going to have glass enclosing it, save for the entrance, where the front desk/cashier will be. Poker is in a really good place right now if Soaring Eagle invested in a new poker room. The future looks bright.

You definitely would think Gun Lake would at least promote some tournaments or have something going on to generate interest in the poker room before it opens. Are we not going to find out the limits, caps, hours, comps, etc. until it opens? Seems that way. I guess it'll be one big surprise. I'm thinking there will be something in the September mailout.

Planet Hollywood is my favorite place to play 1-2 in Vegas, especially at night. I love the Pleasure Pit and being in the middle of all of the action. The party atmosphere and their straddles make for some big action games at times. Very underrated poker room.

I stayed next door at Polo Towers and played PH last year.... The room doesn't get the high number of players as the big beautiful casinos. I did get drunk as hell there and crush my tables. Id rank that room as pretty damn soft

Not trying to be a negative Nancy on GL. I just think it's important for them to get something out there a little more firm. Construction is a function of bodies ... If they can tear down and rebuild a Taco Bell in 30 days then I think a poker room can get going just the same. Might be a supplier thing as well with the tables and chairs or something.

Sometimes I put too much 'micro' into my comments, but the more that GL gets pushed back and starts to overlap with MSPT time at FK I think it will thin things down during the opening period a touch. Obviously everyone will want to play with their new toy, but traffic is drawn to FK for Sattys for sure. That may be a good thing for GL as 'new' players wont be overrun with us regs ... sending them back to the pits!

Great that two MI players are still in the top 6 at WSOP ME ... On a side note, some Michigan players missed out on a 1.3M Pai Gow jackpot in Vegas as well. Apparently after getting frustrated (or just being 'done') with a long Pai Gow session the players moved to a different table game and ... as seen in many a movie ... the very next player to sit down hit the jackpot on their first hand. The MI players were down to playing just one hand at a time, so that hand would've been theirs!! (Enter Bad Beat Story)

Very comfortable day at King's yesterday after an itchy start. The PLO game (it's not RxR anymore) had plenty of players to start right away after a late charity showed up, but the focus has been that the 1/2 game 'always' starts full and the PLO would have to start short. No big deal but it did create some confusion as to who would be playing at which table to start ... by the time things got straightened around I think both tables started with 8 players. I was so focused on the PLO that I'm not sure if a 3rd 1/2 ever got going .. and they didn't run out of chips. So yes, a very comfortable day at King's. A couple PLO stacks got up to 1600 or so and the game did make it to the end of the shift. GL

I live about 10 min from GLC. The other day I ran into a tribal member and he said the poker room wouldn't open till December... I could tell he just made the date up-so I called him out and his reasoning was the construction company will try to milk it as long as they can.. I'm still leaning and hoping for a Sept opening

The flip side is that the games tend to run really late. Plenty of tables running on the weekends. There were/are some regs at PH, but plenty of inexperienced tourists.

Hard Rock did close their room. Encore's room is close to the dayclub. Caesar's room is right next to Omnia.

I understand. I'll be disappointed if it's delayed too. You have some great points with the MSPT (also the Chicago tourneys). I agree they should be able to build it faster. You're not wrong.

I imagine dealer and staff training takes a little time.

Maybe Labor Day is a weekend they are shooting for because of higher traffic, and they want a big opening.

I don't think most people won't play exclusively at one place or another. Probably a lot of both, maybe the same day. Soaring Eagle is doing okay on the weekends too. I'm hoping the competition will keep GL on schedule, and they'll be aggressive in drawing people in once they are open. I'm rooting for all three rooms to grow and succeed. I'm sure we all are.

His reasoning doesn't make any sense. They'll open on time, I think. There is no incentive to just let all that space sit empty, just cause, or to piss us off. That's money lost. They know we are all eagerly waiting. Why delay?

I would think there is incentive for companies to finish early, not the other way around. They sign contracts and get paid X amount.

I'm going to GL tomorrow, and if I hear anything new, I'll share.

If it is a fixed price contract then the company wants to get in and out asap to keep overhead costs down. One possibility is that whomever has the contract has too much work at the moment so is pushing this job back while doing other work. Looking forward to visiting once open.

1. I hope that Gun Lake gets that poker room going soon. I have no interesting in driving 100 miles to a casino (Soaring Eagle) when the closest charity room to me is 7 miles (Muskegon) and there are several rooms within about 30 miles in Kent County.

2. My nephew might be about to get more attention than he ever wanted. According to one of the links in the Detroit News story, my nephew (not a poker player as far as I know) has the same first and last name as the person who bought Manion into the tournament. My nephew was born and grew up in Muskegon but recently moved to Grand Rapids.

Here is the Detroit News story about Manion and Cada being eliminated.

Played SEagle for a short time Saturday while my wife and her grandma paid their tax to the slots. Nice place, very quiet other than when the casino PA system has something to say. Was very lucky to get there about 5PM and they started a 2/5 after barely 2 orbits of 1/2 play. Ran well and wish I could've stayed. A couple of players were hoping a couple of the older regs would bust or leave so they could cut into the list a little and spice up the game. When I got home (after 1200) they still had two 2/5 tables going.

One of the Dealers indicated that the overnight Floor was going to be the head guy at GLake when it opened ... but it appears he's still working at SEagle? I'm not sure I would recognize who this person is, but I think that the thought of anyone coming into GLake form SEagle would create some jitters.

Although I don't remember the 1/2 game being 50-400 the last time I was there. They even have the rules scrolling on a sign in the back explaining that the BI for games is 50x the SB up to 200x the BB. GL

Not to ignore the GR action from Saturday, but there was a 'monster' stack at Kings in the PLO game during the day shift. I barely got to sit down and play a few orbits of full ring before chips got sold out and the table became a tournament.

This player had about $4000 in front of him when I sat down and probably cashed out for pushing $6K when he won a 4-way all-in to end the session! Pretty incredible for a player to collect 40% of the chips in play in a charity room!! GL

Gun Lake should be on the phone with Nic Manion the minute he returns to Michigan. A "play with the WSOP Main Event Final Tablist" tournament is a fantastic way to kick off opening a new poker room. Put a $1K bounty on his head and people will love it.

Or Firekeepers should beat them to it. Manion's only previous big tournament experience was at FK during the most recent MSPT.

BabyDutch in the building..

Was playing at firekeepers and someone at my table was doing $5 prop bets with table chips on the UFC fights. One player took exception to this and complaind to the dealer. Even tho the winner would keep the chips in play. The over all table reaction was stop bitching about $5. The guy complaining was ultimately stacked by one was the betters in a $700 pot... Any thoughts? And the dealers had to prohibit the betting per house rules

Any thoughts? You only need one thought ... Would I knowingly allow customers or employees to partake in activities that could get my business fined or shut down? Probably not.

Prop bets are no different than cross selling chips in a charity room. A well known Westgate Player and I would bet whose hand would've won when we both folding (and we were sitting next to each other) .. and even that can get the room in trouble. GL

It's against state Gambling Commission laws to allow prop betting in the poker room. You can only do it for as long as you can get away with it. Try to make the betting as low key as possible. B/c every dealer is instructed to shut it down. Once they do, you have no complaint.
