Hello. I'm just a fish looking for some pokerz while in Grand Rapids this week. Where's a good and safe place to play on weekdays?

I saw names like Westgate (is that the bowling place?) and TJ Poker (which google says is closed)?

Also, are they smoking/non-smoking?

Day/Night time poker M to Th ... Woody's Press Box (Spectrum Lanes) 131 and 52nd area. Opens at 1000 through 200 am.

Night poker M to W ... East Brook Lanes (near Centerpointe and Woodland Malls, 28th and East Beltline)

Night poker Th to Sun ... Westgate Bowing (North Alpine ave, Comstock Park)

Night poker Th to Sun ... Lincoln Lanes/golf (Lake Michigan Dr west, Standale)

Some of these locations are operated by TJ's Poker and they do have a web site somewhere. TJ's is the only supplier offering tournaments.

All locations are smoke free per Michigan law. Smoking is allowed outside the building at 15 foot.

Hope this helps ... repost if you need more information. GL

This is very helpful. Thank you! I might go over to Westgate tonight. If anyone wants to take my money, show up and take a shot!

The web site is tjspoker.com. They have been changing it up a lot lately, moving tournaments around between the three rooms. I'm not sure if this is experimental or if they want to keep changing it up to keep it fresh. Either way, I would check the web site often. One of the rooms now has two days that are cash games only, but tournaments on the other two days. Don't expect the same tournaments at the same place and the same time that they were a week ago.

Other than the three TJs rooms (one in Walker and two in Grand Rapids) the only other room offering tournaments within 50 miles of Kent County in any direction is Northway Lanes in Muskegon. The poker room does not have a web site, so I'll probably put to the tournament line-up, Thursday through Sunday, in this thread soon.

Great daytime action at Rounders (Woodys) yesterday. One guy ran 1 BI up to $1800 in just 45 minutes!! He cashed with $2100 for the day. 2nd table was going Noon and over $11K in chips were sold .. good day there. I played first hour of night game and it was a good table as well.

Cliff .. make sure to check the days .. Westgate is Thursday to Sunday. Hope you didn't waste your time going there. Woodys and East Brook are the Wednesday night rooms.

Now that Fall is here I think the games will pick up a little bit as they normally do. GL

Sounds like fun at Rounders.

Thankfully i did check the schedules and ended up at East Brook. Was basically a boring small stack shovefest. No poker playing. Cashed out dead even after an hour and a half.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I am a tournament specialist. I would have no reason to to go to Westgate.

Finally crawling out of my hole (haven't played in almost a month) to play the qualifier at FK tomorrow. Will be on the cash tables too. GL GL to all.

Any word on how those Noon & evening $60 Q's have gone for Friday? Interesting that those levels are all they run for that day, but if it's going well, good deal.

Below is the schedule of tournaments at Northway Lanes, which is Muskegon's only poker room. They do not have a web site. The poker room phone number is 231-955-8069.

General location: Northway Lanes is near the corner of US-31 (NOT 131) and Laketon Avenue in the city of Muskegon. From Grand Rapids, take I-96 west to US-31, then take 31 North to the Laketon Ave. exit.

Google directions from Grand Rapids to Northway Lanes: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Gran...aa93d41dd0!3e0

TJs at Lincoln Lake doesn't have a charity this week. All tournaments and cash will be held at Shamrock Bar.

As far as I know this will be this week only ... GL

I think the qualifiers and satellites have been going very well. Most of them draw around 80, so at least 16 people 'win'. Last Friday at Noon 'we' advanced '23' people.

Pay attention to the schedule since as the tournament draws closer they will hold more $250 satellites than $65 qualifiers. GL

Interesting. Earlier tonight my wife and I were talking about at which room I would play tomorrow. I guess that settles it. Do we which tournament(s) and at what time(s) it/they will be running?

EDIT: Disregard the above. I looked at the web site and only the Shamrock tournaments are running, nothing from Lincoln has been moved to Shamrock.

Just saw an interesting post in the Detroit thread that Trippers is now double raking pots run twice. Woody's used to do this as well, but they also wouldn't run it twice unless it was over $200 as well from what I remember.

In my review of regulations I don't remember there being any restrictions on the amount, or frequency, of rake under the state rules. I think that most rooms just go with $5 or $6 since that is what the going rate is at the casino's. I had my own little twists to this that I was going to implement in my room, but that will have to wait. GL

I've been mildly concerned about the WSOP Circuit in Hammond cutting into numbers for MSPT, but you're right, the satellites have been well-attended.

Last Saturday was a great day for the room. A dozen cash tables, 80+ runners for $265. All kinds of games running. FK's Saturday promotions help traffic to the cash games.

My 2-5 game was too good to leave for the satellite, so I've yet to try and qualify. Though if you win $850 on the cash table, didn't you "qualify" anyways??? That's my theory anyways haha.

I talked to FK staff and they said that for the 2nd year in a row the dates for the WSOP were adjusted to 'block' the MSPT event. I don't really buy that too much ...
1) I think the WSOP sets their schedule first, but I could be wrong
2) Wouldn't you want to have separate dates so both events would be bigger?

I do agree that WSOP event #1 at $365 is attractive, but I don't see any guaranteed purse for that one either this year. Perhaps CPC only has guaranteed purses .. not sure.

As with all poker, you pick the best place to profit .. In both spots you could've ended up with $0 for your trouble. Well 'chosen' ... GL

A very active week of poker in West Michigan last week. If you couldn't find a game you need some help!!

Day game at Rounders (Woody's) has bee very good with a 2nd table going most days by 100 or so. Heard they sold $9000 by 1:30 last Wednesday ..

Rounders 2/5 on Thursday night was full (8 handed) with a list all night. Hope this one stays going strong.

Shamrock had tournament and cash going strong Saturday night, but only $2300 in chips left at 9pm with 3 cash tables going.

Westgate was strong all weekend, sold out very late on Saturday.

Looks like I am playing Thursday for MSPT at 4pm. Hope to play some cash beforehand as well. GL

Remember MSPT at Firekeepers this week ... last $65 today at Noon, then $250 tonight and tomorrow 930. Remember if you 'win' paper you must use it on Thursday or Friday for the ME .. or sell it to someone who is playing those days and use the cash for Saturday.

$1100 ME (20K chips) Thursday at 4pm .. Friday and Saturday at Noon ... 14 40-minute levels Day 1

Back at 1030 Sunday morning until a winner is crowned.

Also ... WSOPc Event #1 at Hammond ... $365 I think .. if you want to drive further. GL

Pretty massive Thursday night. 154 entries into MSPT, 3 PLO games going for a long time in the cash room, plus 1-2 of course. Can only think cash will be jumping even more Friday and Saturday. Stay away if you hate money.

Can only agree with above ...

29 advance to Sunday from Thursday .. Thought it was 30 but maybe someone forfeited their stack to re-enter?

Played both 2/5 and PLO after busting tournament. My tournament almost went the best way possible on Hand 2.
- Call 250 from SB with A5
- 4 or 5 to the Flop
- AA5 c/c a bet from HJ (not the initial raiser)
- Turn 10s ... check/raise/4-bet raise/6-bet shove for 20k

V turns over A8 ... River 10 for a chop!! That would've been a nice start!!

My read (correct) was that he didn't have AT and that he could have 3 outs to send me home, but I just went with my read and he was saved on the River.

The rest of the tournament was pretty plain. Lost 3 big pots by 3-outers on the River even though I was value betting to death and showing opponets that they were behind. Glad the cash tables were there to save my night as I left with my BI covered plus quite a bit extra.

WM will be represented on Day 2 by at least 'one leg' Tim and Terp. Tim was down to 3000 before the first break and finished in top 5 with 200k I think ... don't know his last name. Nice come back

Both Terp and Tim cashed MSPT .. as well as 'internet Jake'. Tim bubbled the final table as stacks got very shallow. I think it took 90 minutes to get from 11 to 10 and Tim was the casualty.

Final table started with an average stack of only 18.5 BB and still took until after Midnight to complete!! Of course as it goes with these things quite often .. the chip leader didn't win it. Looks like he finished 3rd after making a call of an all-in with KxKs v made flush (QsQxXsXs) on the Turn. He could've won with a paired board or flush card but missed. GL

Chip leader actually lost that massive pot with KK vs Kc7c on QcJcTc. Player moves all in on Qd turn and CL tank calls. Does not hit 3 outs, eventually busts, though he did spin it back up for a while.

Final hand was amazing, much like final HPT hand from this summer. K5 vs AQ all in pre.

Flop KKT

Turn J

River 5

No (public) games in GH or Holland. There is a charity room in Muskegon that I don't know much about.

For GR action scroll back a page or two and you should see some good information for both day and night games on all days of the week. GL
