Interested in getting people perspective as to the live play in and around the Grand Rapids area.

Are there no players from the greater Grand Rapids area here?

Yea I play at TJ's poker room or Woody's. Woody's has very good action and there are quite a few players with deep pockets.

Yeah, Woody's is always good, Westgate is full of fish, as are all, but the tourneys at both westgate and tj's are very soft.

Yes they do, quite often actually in charity room standards. Roughly 3-4 times per week

I do enjoy playing a tourney at TJ's every once in awhile, but there are some players there who really need to take a shower. The blinds levels are not the greatest with only 20 min levels, but still enjoyable.

Grand Rapids poker scene is very weak. I am from the east side of the state and live in GR for school. Anyways, if interested in rideshare to Soaring Eagle for the HPT, I plan on leaving Grand Rapids on November 18 at 10am and returning to Grand Rapids sometime (earlier rather than later) on the 19th. Might play in some qualifiers for main event, but definitely playing in the pro bounty on the 18th. Equal split of gas required. I might have one or two others with me. Looking to get a full car. email at taz2@students.calvin.edu

I'll grant you it is nothing like the East Side with its full-on casino rooms and packed charity games in every community, but it is considerably better than it was just a few short years ago.

It used to be nearly a two hour drive to the nearest public game, now there are between three and eight tables nightly within 20 minutes, double that on weekends. If tourneys are your thing, you can play every night if you want, albeit at small stakes.

Has anyone heard any actual info on the rumors that Gun Lake will be adding a poker room in the coming year?

I've contacted Gun Lake several times about them adding a poker room, and all I ever get is that they have "plans to do so in the future."

Do you folks play tournaments or cash? I still only play 6 tables of 10NL online, but I'm looking to start taking occasional shots at $1/$2 at Woody's.

Also, if anyone has a low-buyin home game and is looking for players, feel free to shoot me a message: lopez.m.benjamin@gmail.com

If you are going to take at shot at $1/$2 I would play at Tj's. Woody's can be pretty crazy and you will need to bring a few buyins with ya because you will take some bad beats. A lot of people will call your pf raises of 6x BB just because.

I've won a couple of tourneys there, but haven't been there in almost a year. Pretty nice set up though in my opinion. How'd you do in it?

Break was pretty good, but decided to hold off on taking my live shot because of moving expenses.

Do any local poker rooms have a "big" monthly tournament? I wouldn't mind playing cash and seeing some early busted tourney players sit down with us.

I played at Westgate for there Sunday $20 freeze out for ****s and giggles. I was surprised to see 65 players in the tourney the blind levels were alright. They had 20 min levels, but the blinds went up slow. My only complaint is that some of the dealers are not trained properly. I had to teach one of the dealers how to break down a side pot and what an ante was.
