So much for structure!! It looked like both GL (30 entries?) and FK (175 entries?) reached their Final Tables about the same time yesterday .. wasn't paying super close attention but that's what it looked like ... early evening.

I did wander down south to FK to see how things are going down there. LOTS of new Dealers being 'prepped' for MSPT time. (Sattys start this Friday!!) They must have placed an ad somewhere since a few of the Dealers have experience in other casinos as well as the ones they are enticing to come into poker from the pits. There weren't any real issues that I saw during my 1/3 NL play. Their cage is still quirky ... only one window open when the tourny rush started and yet there were 5 employees in there when I left ... and the poker room was basically empty. You can re-buy or add on at the tables, which is nice but can still be an issue if the tray can't be refilled quick enough due to cage lines.

FK pyramid was 'dead' by Friday due to the increased Wed traffic for their HH promo. They still have their 'Hot Hands' board daily though, so there is still some promo money available each day. Labor Day will see their 'normal' hot seat promo with $1K going to random seats every so often.

Watching GL I thought they might go a day without PLO, but the 4/8 Limit game went RxR and there was a 1/2 PLO going after dinner. The 4/8 Sunday game must be starting later? That game has moved around a bit but I don't pay super close attention to it. The Bounty may have delayed it's start only due to players choice. GL

1/2 PLO formed sometime in the afternoon but quickly broke and then started up again late.

4/8 limit O8 started at 1230, switched to round by round at 530, and broke at 1130.

It's happened a little earlier than I thought, but the GLake 'day' game may already be shifting to RxR to go after the BBJ/promo cash. I've seen it on the board twice this week. It's also running at the 2/5 stake to allow for deeper buy-ins. This could be driven by a couple of certain action Players being in the room, but it's also been discussed since the NL hand promos have started up. I don't think RXR got going too much until the BBJ was over 150K last time ... It's just over 100k right now. GL

Well ... the 'wrong' BBJ hit yesterday at GLake! The PLO game during RxR had a big hand go down and the BBJ was paid out (20K?). No extra details as this was the first Thursday day I haven't played in quite some time ... imagine that!! The reset was around $1700.

So the concentration on NL will be even more going forward. I've noticed that the 1/2 games are making it overnight again and most of the time they don't break by the time the day crew starts rolling in. GL

I heard it was straight flush or straight flush on the river. Since the BBJ for Omaha I don’t think there has been any RXR going. There was a solid list last night but with two PLO tables it never got started. It will be interesting to see how long until it starts back up with the NLH BBJ still in play.

I will just depend on which game gets started first and who the Players are. Typically a game wont switch once started unless there are some 'circumstances' that pop up. There has been one Player who 'insists' on 2/5 or he wont play and the table has agreed to convert it to keep him around. My guess is that there will be a lot of RxR as the start up, non 1/2 NL, game since straight PLO has struggled to get going and with the BBJ hitting it will only help steer things towards the promo funds.

Any time you mess with an ongoing game it can create issues. And a lot of the time if a bunch of Players branch off it will kill both that game and the existing game since the lists dry up that much faster. FK has tons of issues since the 2/5 NL game would start first and have 7-8 on the list, but then when they started a 1/3 PLO table and lost 5 Players from 2/5 then the 2/5 would dry up and those Players were left holding the bag. Just not running good ... !! I post about how starting up a game may ruin another and see the opposite first hand on Friday. GLake was very aggressive about getting a PLO going Friday afternoon even though a RxR was running ... and it worked out fine for both tables, at least while I was there.

It appears that 'fly' issue isn't getting any better and I heard that the work being done to the bathrooms is 'the' contributing factor. Not sure how that works but that's the current version.

Troubling NL session ... AA five times, KK twice and got called down 3 streets by bottom pair twice ... with nothing positive to show for it!

As much as we'd like to have an opinion on our 'prowess' at the poker table it still take two to tango and even though we may 'know' what the other guy is holding there's still that crack in the door that lets the stink in!! GL

Saw Gun Lake last week for the first time and was really impressed with the room and the floor/dealers. Didn't like the 5+2 but other than that.

Gun Lake has 'released' their September anniversary calendar! Hopefully they will have this feature each month at the entrance to the room going forward.

Sundays ... 3PM to 11PM .. $200 High Hands (hourly)
Tuesdays ... Every 4 hours .. $400 Lucky Seat
Wednesdays ... 1AM to 3PM ... Reduced Rake
Fridays ... 3PM to 11PM .. $200 High Hands

Sat 7th ... 3PM to 11PM .. $200 High Hands
Sat 14th ... 12AM to 11PM .. $500 High Hands
Sat 21st ... 3PM to 11PM .. $200 High Hands ... Special Top 50 Appreciation Drawing x5
Sat 28th ... 3PM to 11PM .. $200 High Hands ... Omaha Tournament (Noon probably)

I guess I didn't realize that their 'real' opening day was the 14th last year as most of us were there on the 7th for the 'soft' opening!!

Noticed that 2/5 PLO was running most of the day yesterday and into the night .. GL

PS ... One can only assume that this may affect the PLO/RxR play as the NL BBJ keeps increasing. No mention of continuing the SF 'doubler' promo but I'm assuming that it will continue.

PSS ... I was told that the 'hot' hands promo was going to be continued as well. My prediction of the last Royal not hitting until the 41st day is hanging in the balance as there's only one left and it's been 28 days!!

Not that a lot of WMich Players 'work' the WSOPc, but I see that Poto (Milwaukee) was 'awarded' a 2nd event slot in September. Obviously the weather is much better in Sept than Feb to travel the extra distance to WI for poker.

More and more and more tournament poker being played within 4-5 hours of WMich ... amazing. GL

1/3 NL fever is hitting GLake!! There were 2 tables going in the evening which is pretty good for a Thursday. The feeder had broken by 11 PM but we'll see where the trends go during September with the 'progressive hand' promos carrying through.

A bit lower in the $80 tournament with around 30, but that could be a holiday thing too.

The PLO feeders didn't go so well, with 3 attempts lasting less than 30-60 minutes each time. Pretty deep main table which included a few fresh faces ... including a Player who talked like he plays out east quite a bit but I was at the opposite end of the table and couldn't hear everything. GL

There's nothing on the calendar for today at GL other than the 'progressive' hands that I know of. I think some Players will head to FK for the 'hot seat' (I think) promo.

I'm in Cincy .. couple of great sessions at The Jack and the best fireworks display you'll ever see over the Ohio River with 2 bridges firing back and forth over the 3 barges in the middle!! It was a 30 minute 'finale' from start to finish ... must have been over 150 big boomers to end the show. The 'people' and traffic were no issue either ... amazing. GL

I got that card as well despite playing only ~10 times in the past year at GLC. The 14th jumped out to me too as the ultimate day to be there. May have to make visit #11. And they really mean the promo runs all day, right? 12:00 A.M. is midnight, but at first I was afraid they meant noon.

The promo runs all day the 14th .. from Midnight .. based on the information I have. Could be some nice roll-overs in the early morning hours.

The PLO tournament on the 28th now has an info sheet ... $250 BI ... 15K chips ... Late reg through Level 4 ... 2 re-entries allowed per Player ... surrender option at any time before end of late-reg ... $100 add-on at end of late-reg (10K chips) ... 30 minute Levels ... 100, 200, 300, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1600, 2000 BB first 10 Levels ... no mention of BB ante, but if there is an ante it would be BB based on previous GL tournaments

Was there for a couple of the $400 'random seat' drawings yesterday and you really wouldn't have known a drawing was even going on!! Apparently they don't have the ability to show this type of drawing on the TVs as they didn't get that option in their software. So they just hit a few buttons and someone's name and picture shows up on the computer monitor at the desk. At our table for one drawing we waited about 20 minutes to go ask if they were going to have the drawing ... and they indicated that it was over and the Player had been paid!! No bells or whistles or anything ... gotta have some spice to your promos please!! GL

What's a surrender option? And I agree, you have to do the hot seat with some fanfare.
West Michigan Poker Quote
09-04-2019 , 09:27 PM
Surrender option allows a Player to just quit and re-enter without busting. Their remaining chips just get picked up and removed from the tournament. Probably not advisable until Level 4 if a Player still has two BI and is super short and wants to gamble before break. Or if they have like 5k and its more economical to reenter rather than pay the 100 for the add on. GL

Decent but below anticipated crowd at GL for the $500/hour HH promo on Saturday. To their credit they had the Dealers in-house to handle any amount of Players that showed up. Before Noon there were a couple that rolled over and hit at $1500, but through 10 PM I think they were all $500 with a top table count of 11 .. including two 1/3 NL games and a 1/2 RxR.

The RxR got going later in the day when the 'progressive' board started to get stripped down ... and you can only keep the PLO action away for so long!! I didn't look at Bravo yesterday to see if the $200/hour HH brought in any extra from a normal Sunday.

....... As with all 'short' stories (see above), the author needs to leave out some of the specifics in order to keep them interesting to the audience and remain within the space constraints of the format. Let's encourage our author to do a rewrite and include the these poker-isms into the story ... straddle, button, 7.5 to 1, multi-way, dead money, PSR, position, set mine, previous history, fold equity, range and gamble. NOW we have the makings of a real American short story!! GL

That's a much better story ... too bad this isn't a strat forum (or BBV), nor should it be.

Remember that GLake has $400 hot seats every 4 hours today .. next one is at Noon. Reduced rake for the early birds tomorrow and some HH opportunities this weekend. (Top 50 drawing Sat 8 PM as well, might be some additional good action around that time)

Tournament lovers weekend Sept 28-29 ... GLake PLO Sat Noon. FKeepers MSPT Satty Sat PM. FKeepers 5th Sunday $500 @ Noon. These are 'higher' entry fees than the normal 'dailies'.

Flow is still hit or miss at the FKeepers cage, but I don't think there's as much of a reason to get down there 'super' early as before. They have had plenty of Dealers available at the start of these big tournaments and I don't remember the alternate list back log starting until maybe Level 2 the last time I was there. Certainly hit or miss depending on the number of entrants for sure. GL
