Word is that Westgate shut down this week. I haven't checked the Millionaire Party Locator as of yet to see if there are any dates still booked.

Poor timing IMO, not sure if King's talked to them or not but it's my 'current' opinion that Westgate would be a better weekend room than King's due to it's location being further north of Gun Lake. Folks who don't have to go to work the next day will be willing to drive the extra miles down to Gun Lake and bypass 68th Street.

I didn't go to King's West (Jacks) this week but the word was that it got a little more play this past week.

If King's used their current location for Monday to Thursday (or Sunday to Wednesday) then Eastbrook would be closed in no time. They then could use Westgate for Friday to Sunday (or Thursday to Saturday). I don't think Russo's would like this very much, but Westgate (and King's) offers the opportunity for larger tournaments due to the larger room for the 'appropriate' day of the week. You can say that Westgate is 'a drive' as well but we all used to make it anyway! There's nothing to say that they couldn't overlap a day either. King's has enough staff and they could offer a special game/tournament at one of the locations.

The obvious unknown is what kind of traffic will King's get once Gun Lake opens. King's is a 'machine' right now with 2x charities 4 days a week. It's a choice of 'when' do you stir the pot ... or do you play defensively and just wait. My obviously feeling is that King's will suffer greatly once Gun Lake opens. It will be up to them to get the pulse of the Players. I think 'a lot' of 'starting table' Players will already be at Gun Lake when EB or Jack's typically opens.

Last night was almost perfect for King's. I think chips lasted until almost 1100 PM and one table made it to closing. The day shift sold out around 3PM as well.

I don't think Jack's will develop enough to control weekdays, but I would put $$ on Eastbrook being eliminated if King's were to shift Division Ave operations to weekdays.

Just some spouting ... everyone knows that I have a deep passion for charity poker ... certainly with some missed opportunities along the way!! GL

Sunglasses are a big tell? Interesting... So you mean wearing a hoodie, sunglasses, headphones and using a chip protector is a bad thing??

Any word / idea what games Gun Lake may spread? Do you think the area could support a somewhat regular 2/5 game? To the extent the area cannot support a regular 2/5 game I think I would rather have 1/3 instead of 1/2 with a deeper buyin since it seems like all the other casinos/charity rooms in the area run 1/2 exclusively.

FKeepers doesn't have a regular 2/5 game. Really only Friday and Saturday from what I've seen. One of the reasons is that they allow $400 BI at 1/2. There are a few players who would (or can) play 2/5 but since they can be so deep at 1/2 and the pace is quicker they don't. FKeepers also leans towards the PLO game. I've seen a decent 2/5 game destroyed for 30-45 minutes while they get a PLO game going and try to fill the seats. Woody's had a 2/5 game on Thursdays for a bit, but the player pool wasn't very deep.

I think the biggest issue with 2/5 is players aren't really rolled to play it. So it becomes nitty and players drop out of the pool when they hit a bad stretch. Another issue is the home games, unless GLake can draw in some of that crowd via comps/service it may struggle with higher stake tables.

I think MCC does it 'right' for their market. 1/2 capped at $200 and then have some 2/5 tables. By capping the 1/2 they force the deeper players into the 2/5 game. I'm not sure that West Michigan's player pool is deep enough for that concept. So it will be interesting ... I don't think 1/2 or 1/3 is 'better' for rake since most pots are over $40 anyway.

I don't think it really makes a difference what the blinds are, more so the BI cap. We've seen the chips last longer at King's due to the $200 cap. I think it does change the game to being even more loose since the deeper players force even more action being 'short stacked'. A casino with unlimited chips wont have to worry about a cap, but they do need to cater to the 'main' flock of players .. and if they need that 1/2 blind to feel better about the game, then that's what the casino is going to do. I think it would be good for the (remaining) charity rooms if GLake went to 1/3.

'Back in the day' I was pushing for both 1/2 and 1/3 at the charity rooms, just to separate the players a little bit, but no room ever tried it that I know of so it never caught on.

With the onset of PLO it might be more probable to have a 1/2 RxR than a 2/5 NL game at GLake. Technically you need to be rolled deeper for PLO, but most players just look at the blinds and 'go to the light'. GL

Any ideas about when tournaments might start at Gun Lake?

They don't even know when they are gong to open and I'm not sure they even have a poker manager as of yet. But they did take the job listing for Dealers down from the web site where it was listed, so maybe they have enough candidates. I'm not holding my breath for Labor Day anymore but you never know.

I know of a few Dealers who want to get in there and even one with Floor aspirations. If the casino does't jack them around in the pits first then we would have at least a few pretty good Dealers to start with .. unfortunately most of them haven't mastered dealing me winning hands yet!

One would assume that in order to get a 'staff' going that tournaments would start right with the room opening. It depends on if they do a soft opening or a full bore grand opening. GL

Any idea if ANSWER20 is scared of 3 bets?

Way too broad of a question ...
1) Did Answer20 open and is now facing a 3-bet or would it be a cold call/4-bet spot?
2) Did anyone else call the open/3-bet in between?
3) How deep are the stacks?
4) What position is each player sitting in for this hand?
5) When was the last 3-bet and what happened?
6) Are we having a winning or losing session?

In general though .. Answer20 opens a lot of pots, thus faces more 3-bets than the average player ... SO ...
A) There are more folds to 3-bets than the average player, BUT
B) There is also more practice playing against 3-bets than the average player

So is the opinion that because there are more 'total' folds that it's from being scared or that there are more pots played so it's not scary? GL

PS ... In an unrelated manner ... Does Floyd Mayweather stop throwing jabs just because an opponent connected with one upper cut?

It's been kind of quiet on the poker front since MSPT finished up and not much news coming out on the start date of the Gun Lake room so here's some dates to help wet our poker appetite:

July 29 - Fifth Sunday Five Hundred - Firekeepers

Aug 23-Sept. 3 Heartland Poker Tour - Ameristar East Chicago

Sept 30 - Fifth Sunday Five Hundred - Firekeepers

Oct. 6-14 Michigan State Poker Championship - MSPT - Firekeepers

Oct. 11-22 WSOP Circuit Events - Ameristar East Chicago

Nov.1-13 HPT $2500 Championship - Ameristar East Chicago

Also here's a link to an article regarding the current state of the online gaming bill:

Between the upcoming tournaments, the Gun Lake poker room and online poker there's plenty to look forward too as we get closer to fall.

I'm pretty sure the Ameristar doesn't do WSOP. Also the circuit is doing two stops in Chicagoland for this tour

I read the article and I'm concerned that it said there hasn't been any talk of joining the bigger player pool. When New Jersey started there were a lot of complaints about the small player pool.

I looked up some population numbers:

New Jersey, 9.01 million
Michigan, 9.96 million

If going it alone was a problem in New Jersey, it probably will be in Michigan as well.
