Spent the weekend in Mt Pleasant ... Poker room is across the street while multi-stage renovations take place in main casino. High Rollers will get more secluded space in old poker room area and then poker room will move to where the high roller area is now. They are well ahead of the scheduled pace ... so it might all be done before the end of Summer or much quicker.

Free food and bottled water as well for the time being .. pizza and subs, chips and cheese .. donuts ... Lots of stuff to pick from for the inconvenience of saving money in the pits!!

They really seemed relaxed and had their stuff together. They didn't get the PLO running Saturday night, but a few of the 1/2 tables were pretty deep. Much different play than WM play for sure ... A lot more Nitty and Trappy .. GL

I use to play at the eagle years ago... when the room was good... like 08-09, they use to get a full room on the weekends and even during the week having 8 tables was normal... but then they did away with a lot of the extras that kept people in the room... they use to have a bingo board for hands, which paid out cash... then they went to their soaring hands which went up every day they didn't get hit... And they use to have a 100$ splash pot Monday thru Thursday starting at midnight or 1, that ran every hour and they'd pick a table for it and that was the starting pot for a hand...

Not sure how much it matters but , their dealers kinda suck... not all of them but they don't boot out the ones who can't keep up... And playing 10 per table is a big wtf.... And sometimes waiting to get a table can take forever.... litteraly! I've seen people wait a good hour or more ... I am not sure if anything has changed... a good friend of mine played there a couple months ago and he told me all they have is the bbj...

More SEagle stuff ...
1) The Dealers were all adequate .. I had seen all of them before and I only play there maybe 2-4 times a year.
2) $200 High Hand every 12 hours, rolls at 1PM and 1AM
3) Tables are only 9 handed for cash .. even when we combined as the room drained
4) Reduced rake weekday? mornings .. $3 max
5) ISSUE FOR ME .. When table changing, you 'must' drop down to below table max. So even if they choose (not you choose) to move you to another table you MUST go south with anything over $400. This is common with Toledo's room as well, which I guess they have exchanged some staff. (not on purpose) GL

Talked to one of high rollers who plays at Gun lake who isn't affiliated with poker and without prompting told me they are putting poker in GL

ya know now that i read this, i do remember my friend telling me about the high hand... and did see something on bravo about reduced rake....

thats cool they finally went to playing 9 handed.... heck even 7/8 handed is fine by me.... although it's always funny, there is a reg who plays at Firekeeper's who use to play at the eagle, who always complains lol if the table isnt full.... i think most people know him as "whiney bob"

as for the dropping to the max even on a table change that is odd.... cuz usually if your playing you have to keep the money on the table even if you come from PLO or 2/5

Is whiney bob the guy with his wife sitting behind him all the time? Ive won so much money off that guy.

Thats why I love weeknight poker. The tables start 9 handed, and as the night wears on many hands are played 7 or 6 handed. I cut my teeth in online 6max, so that puts me right in my comfort zone.

Koss, yes that is Whiney Bob LOL... and yes i've won so much money off of him, his play is so easy to figure out....

he never raises Pre-flop unless he has something AA to QQ, and never bet's or calls a bet unless he has a monster, and if my memory is right he always checks and then just calls a bet...

If he's an old man, I've also played with that guy. I found out that he's unbluffable as well.

Yes he is old , I wouldn't say he is unbluffable... it's just when he is calling bets or making a bet, it's usually cuz he has a monster draw, smashed the flop with top/top on a dry board, or has two pair or a set...

I cringed hard when my friend called a pot pot shove from him with AJ on an AKJ board. Bob never has less than QT there. NEVER. He justified it by saying bob couldnt have AA/KK/JJ/AK because of the preflop action.

I will add he also limps QQ-AA as well, but is too loose preflop and his bet sizes are directly proportional to the strength of his hand.

Exactly, his hand play is way too polarizing... he never has less than the nuts anytime he shoves

Not true I've seen him call all of his chips on draws. There are far worse players then him around..

Not sure on the 'Bob' part at SEagle .. But OMC with MS disabled wife in tow got fairly tilted on Sat night for what his rumored image was from the other players. Called a pot bet on both Flop and Turn only to hit his ten (ATo) on the River against me (A6s) .. 3A64T Board. He also called two bets with A4 on 45569 Board .. neither of those would seem to be Nitty or Nutty. GL

If he is a shorter guy, probably in an army hat, and his wife reading a book, thats him. FWIW my read on bob was never nitty/nutty, but more loose/passive. When he starts betting he has it, and when he bets big he has the nuts, but he doesnt need monsters to call you down. I havent seen him at FK in a while, so maybe he has gone back to SE.

Maybe FK got sick of his crap because he often berates dealers when they deal him beats, but ive seen him tip well too, so its a bit of an abusive relationship.

Koss, yea thats Bob.... And from what he's said... he only plays at The Eagle once or twice a year to keep his points going since they expire every 6months or yearly? IDK

i know they havent booted him out, cuz the last 5 times i've played at Firekeeper's he has been there..

as for his play maybe i just havent seen him show down with anything less than the nuts or top top, or second pair with a huge draw or something...

I have at least one good source that has said that Gun Lake Casino is getting a poker room. It's a widespread rumor, and confidence is pretty high. I don't have any details. I do know construction has been ongoing for a little while, and all the kitchen stuff from Villa and Johnny Rocket's is long gone. Could be opening soon. I'm still a little skeptical, but it makes a lot of sense. Wishes come true!

Played FKeepers Sat PM .. very good 2/5 started at 330 and ran through 3 AM and also won a ticket to the MSPT in the $260 Satty as well! Very comfortable poker night for me.

MSPT isn't until May but it's nice to have a discounted seat already. There was a little hick up at the end but you can read about that in the Detroit thread if you want.

OK .. Gun Lake is getting poker! That's confirmed 1000% Construction hasn't started yet but they want to open by Labor Day. 14 tables. They haven't named or hired a Director of Poker as of yet. They will be holding a poker Dealers school as well as looking at outside experience ... but they want to see you at the school too!

The newest rumor, unconfirmed by me as of yet, is that King's is looking for a second location, possibly an American Legion somewhere, to expand to 7 days a week. It should be 'painfully' obvious that King's will suffer on weekends once Gun Lake opens and has unlimited chips and perhaps comps as well. Personally I still think the charity rooms have a role, especially Monday to Wednesday when folks may not want to make that little bit of an extra drive when they have to work the next day. GL

I live in Muskegon Charter Township. Going to Gun Lake would cut the drive significantly for me as well. I only play in the charity rooms. Part of the reason is that Soaring Eagle is 96 miles from where I live in Muskegon Charter Township. That's a long round trip and a long time on the road. Gun Lake is only 27 miles from me, a big difference.

Holland has adopted most of Muskegon ... so the drive is a bit shorter now!!

'Bad' news at FKeepers .. BBJ has hit twice now in less than 2 weeks. Down to $6K ... any discussion on what motivates you to drive there over charity rooms or taking the extra time to drive to Hammond or Detroit? GL

Better dealers- more comfortable environment.. weekdays are so so at FK weekends are where it really takes off(especially with MSPT satellites).. While the BB is a nice incentive.....if you're there solely for that then you have some learning to do.

Oops, I'm not sure where I got my numbers. I just ran it again, using Muskegon to Wayland on Google Earth Pro, and it's 66 miles. Still a lot better than better than driving 96 miles to Soaring Eagle. I'll take it.
