Does Wales have live legal poker? I've never seen a thread about it in B&M. If so, what's the scene like?

I'm Welsh! Although I no longer live there now.

I originally started playing poker in the pub leagues of my hometown of Wrexham. It was hilariously soft and a nice way of making some pocket money.

There's no casino near by though, you have to trek to Stoke or Manchester for that.

My Dad lives in Cardiff so I've had a brief look for casinos there for when I visit, and there's definitely one or two that offers cash and tourneys

swansea:
• Aspers Casino
dealing standard fairly good. cash games are very good (£1/£1 NLH every night very soft and juicy, other games rarely) cardroom manager doesnt have a clue though... just get on the right side of the dealers and youll be alright there.
• Grosvenor Casino
Dealing standard very good. All staff are really nice there. cash games are intermittent, and full of 30-40 bb stacks so not worth the trip, but thats just holdem. DC games run regularly here (up to 4 nights a week), minimum sit down anywhere from £100 to £500. games are very good and fairly big at times. Definately worth the trip. Biggest nigt for the DC game is thursdays.

Cardiff:
• Gala Casino
dealing standard probably the worst you will see. only 3 poker tables, all cash games. usually 2 spreading £0.25/£0.50 and antoher with £0.50/£1. games are very soft, but be prepared for a lot of variance with rulings etc. If you can handle bad decisions occasionally from dealers etc... its ok. otherwise stick elsewhere.
• G Casino
lololololololololol. stay away. unless you want to be sat at a poker table talknig to a dealer for 8 hours whilst waiting for another player to maybe play headsup to take his £30 off him... until a few years ago this was the only poker dealing casino in cardiff. When that changed, nobody returned and its been a ghost town ever since, even though G are attempting to revive it since their refurb...
• Les Croupes casino
Staff are for the most part pretty easy to get on with. some dealers arent brilliant... but some are pretty good. if theres a problem CR manager is usually fairly accurate with rulings so you wont have much of a problem. Cash games can be good, it all depends really. theyre not brilliant by live standards. Poker tables are too high and too wide, you might get back pain playing there too long. If so, its worth doubling up 2 chairs so your sitting a bit higher. Some personalities play in this casino, usually a fairly friendly atmosphere and cash game can be OK.

If i was to stick to one of the above casinos and never use any of the others? I would say Grosvenor Swansea. the DC games are great, great crowd there, dealers are all really great company and know what theyre all doing.

Les Croupiers, Gala and Aspers are the main three in South Wales, with Grosvenor hardly ever getting any action.

so after 4 years.......
aspers died a slow painful yet deserved death many years ago

no idea if gala still operate a poker room

les croupiers are still going strong despite them turning down tours the last 2 years because they have trouble staffing for tournaments that cater to more than 100 entrants stupid considering they boast about having 50+ tables
the £1+£1 plo cash game gets a bit juicy on friday and saturday as for the rest of the week the cash games are always short handed
the cr manager is mostly competent at his job as are majority of the dealers the waiting staff are sometimes rude and slightly ******ed

Grosvenor down Cardiff bay has a poker room i'm sure of it just never seen any actual poker played there

The new room in swansea i think is operated by Grosvenor not 100% sure not been there yet but they run mix games which can only be a good thing
yay #welshpokerboom :'(

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the state of live poker in Wales today?

lol well in the three years since the previous post I went to the Swansea Grosvenor a couple of times. Little bigger than £50 freezeouts and 1/1 cash games. Haven't done anything in the last year or so though.

Fair enough. I played in a tournament at the Grosvenor in Cardiff Bay a few months back. Wasn't particularly busy. Not sure if there's much in the way of cash games going on there generally.
