Nice as the Venetian Poker room is, I refuse to play there. The reason is that god-awful stench that nearly knocks me over as soon as I walk into the place. There's just no reason for it.

I tried playing there a few weeks ago because I had heard good things, but I honestly couldn't take it for more than about a half-hour. It was driving me crazy, to the point where I had to get up and leave. I do have asthma, but I'm not even sure that was the issue. It just stunk. Big-time. Please tell me I'm not alone...

I was referring to the witty banter. It was very amusing. You have a quick wit.

You were sitting in seat 1 and I was in seat 2. I did not say much or play many hands. I was listening, however, and I enjoyed every minute.

Before the table broke up I asked you if you were seeking to be a professional poker player.

Thanks and Good Luck to you ...

Right on. Other than that snafu, and the extra long ten-handedness, it was a really well run tournament with a fairly good structure. Wish I woulda made it to day 2 though. I remember seeing a guy in a blue twoplustwo t-shirt get busted around the 100th spot, so obviously that wasn't you. Other than a few spazzes early on at my first table, almost everyone else was competent and solid and it was hard to find good spots, at least at my tables. Not going to be able to make it out there for the upcoming series, but hopefully next year I will be back.

P.S. DCarp - I remember reading something in another forum about how you guys might be considering expanding the DSE's next year, in the sense that you might move it to a convention hall in the V, similar to what they do at the Rio for the WSOP. Any truth to this, or just a rumor? Would be awesome to see a $300 or $500 w/ 1000+ players (although Horseshoe Hammond just set a WSOP circuit record for players, had something like 1,400for their opening $300) so you guys got some catching up to do!

Of course that's their intention. But, it's not so easy to do.

It has been talked about, it is not set in stone yet, either way. Regardless, we will most certainly have more than the 89 tables we had last year (my guess is 115ish). The one drawback to having the event in convention space Is the walk-up traffic you get for the cash games. So, we're looking very closely at all options. We were able to get 940 last year with only 89 tables, so if we added 20 tables, we should be able to get to 1200, or so.

dcarp-
you could accommodate more runners if you allowed more alternates in the field with a full starting stack. allow people to buy in for like 4 levels.

overall, i have enjoyed the DSEs i have played as well as the cash games. one time i played all day with orel herchiser, which was kinda cool. very nice guy.

does gabe thaler still hold his big game there? i haven't seen a big game running the last several times i've been in town.

dcarp(or anyone), I'm planning to stay at Venetian January 7-10. But I'm also looking at the Palazzo. I'm just wondering how quickly one can travel from a room at the Palazzo to the poker room at Venetian. Are the two connected by a walkway (never checked it out before) and is the connection to Palazzo easy to access quickly from the poker room? Is there quick/cheap food at Palazzo, like at the food courts by V. poker room?

Thanks for your time. Looking forward to seeing 15/30 going strong in January!!

Yeah, they are connected. About 10 minutes from door to poker room.

Quick and cheap are not words that describe much of anything in the Palazzo. I don't remember seeing a food court at all in there, but then I mostly just slept there and did nothing else to speak of.

We allow late registration for 2 hours. Players, however DO get blinded off (no one has really ever complained because it is such a small amount compared to your starting stack).

Also, in the summer we made a special exception (twice, I think) where we allowed our alternates in into the 4th level. Very rarely do we ever shut anyone out.

Haven't seen it in a while...maybe during the DSE.

I just stayed at the Palazzo Oct 16-18. The walk is about 4-5 minutes from the elevator bank to the poker room. Maybe a couple more. Not a big deal at all, really.

There is a walkway from Palazzo to the V, hang a left at the craps tables and go straight past the fountain and the restaurants, V poker room is to the right once you get into the V. Shortcut through the bathroom hallway to shave 20 seconds.

I don't think Palazzo has quick/cheap food other than Grand Lux (depends on your definition).

We got Palazzo concierge level suites at $459/night and used the poker rate to reduce that to $159/night, which was nice.

Enjoy.

They run single table satellites. They are not event specific . . . you winner lammers which you can use for any Venetian tournament (DSE or regular daily events).

Was @ da V last week looking to play 15/30. Was going to takle a seat in the 8/16 game and wait too see if a 15 game got going(only 2 names up). Was about to sit down in the 8 game when I saw that they were using $4 chips. Went up to the desk and asked who I think was a runner why they are using $4 chips instead of $2 chips. He looked sort of puzzled and asked me why. I told him that to the typ player the pots look small to medium when they should look big to huge in a typical 8 game. He didn't seem to get it. 15 game never got going. This was midweek evening however.

All the 1/2 NL games I played in were nitty and small pots. The 1/2 PLO game was going & looked decent. Big plus there for sure

V ever try running a smaller/medium HORSE or mixed game?

Overall I did like the room and it was very comfy. The Coffee area is a def+ to have Good floor and decent dealers as well

Don't remember exactly.

I think they have some for $80 or $85, some for $130, and some higher before the bigger events.

It's about friggin' time. It's the only way to play 8-16.

More chips = better games.

It's not debatable.

My understand was that when you booked with the poker rate, you just got the standard rooms. How do you get concierge level suites with the poker rate?

Thanks!
