"indefinitely" sounds pretty ominous. Why didn't they just extend restrictions for a week?

"Indefinitely" was just a bridge from the expiring restrictions that ended Monday at midnight... to the new parameters being announced on Tuesday.

Govt didn't want a window of a few hours where there were no restrictions.

More to come Tuesday... wait for it. LOL

Hopefully not filled with grinder regs I hope.

Closest casino for me right now is Parq, but it was a pretty small number of tables from what I remember in 2019. I'm pretty much just grinding Pokerstars for now.
Hey stacker604,

I live in Vancouver (Richmond) and def am looking for a grind partner to actually grind with in the same location. I currently just grind small stakes MTTs and loveeee it.
I struggle with getting bored sometimes and think a grind partner would help.

You still grinding online? What are your thoughts about above?

Hey guys, what is the rake structure live now?

Is it really 10% up to 10 for 2/5 and up?

Is it really 10% up to 8 for 1/3?

10% up to $8 (plus $1 BBJ drop) at 1/3 NL.

I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that RR went to $10 at its smallest steaks just before the Coronaids hit. With the provincial minimum wage going up in 2020, and extra Coronaids costs likely needing to be recovered, plus the recent trend of increasing rake (to $6 in 2016, to $7 in 2017 and to the current $8 in 2018), I'd bet that a $10 maximum is just around the corner once the Coronaids dust settles (not a question of if, just when, imo).

BC casino's are a government sponsored cartel designed to extract wealth from compulsive gamblers(and diminish organized crime which would otherwise fill the niche).

Hey Hedgehog3, thanks for this message and bringing up the idea of us meeting up and being MTT grinding buddies!

I did reply to you with a DM. After that, I didn't hear anything back from you and that's too bad. I'm sure you are a reliable, dependable and hard working guy who would be great to team up with! A solid work ethic for studying/learning I'm sure. Good luck man, and I hope you are able to battle with your boredom from playing MTTs.

Hey guys just checking in with the local 2+2ers on here. Anyone here been following the Hustler casino cheating scandal that happened last week?

I've been watching some poker on YouTube lately and was watching some of the Hustler live stream. Then later found out the cheating going on that session. It took me on a tangent to learn more about the Mike Postle cheating at Stones Casino back in 2018-19 as I was not too involved with poker that much during that time. I was pretty disgusted to see what he was getting away with. It was pretty sick to hear how he could not articulate any of his plays when asked about them as well.

Just curious if there have ever been any big cheating scandals or incidents around here? I've heard some stories here and there but never seen anything too serious myself. I'm mainly an online player who has dabbled in some casino games, and home games also.

Personally, I wouldn't trust any home game that has some non-trivial money involved. Just too much opportunity for cheating / robbery / shenanigans. But that's just me.

Kinda doubt it ever happens to any real extent in a casino environment where it would just be so much more difficult to implement plus the consequences of getting caught would be more severe. Might be naivete on my part, but I doubt it.

I've played a ton in local casino's and only once or twice have I suspected collusion except once when it was open collusion at Grand Villa, 3 way with one all in(super nit that the other two hated-I guess), other two agree to check it down which is cheating and the dealer let it happen. Nit said it wasn't the first time and the floor lets it happen despite complaints.

I knew one guy who said folks are cheating all the time which made me laugh; he didn't seem crazy or paranoid but his perspective was sure different from mine.

Hey guys, just looking to get opinions from other Vancouver poker enthusiasts. Where do you guys think is the best online site to connect and interact with other locals and discuss poker in a more indepth way? Would you say this forum and thread are the answer to that question or would it be somewhere else?

Maybe it is a Pocket Fives forum or some other well known poker forum. Although I have heard of different poker forums around during my 18 years in the game, 2+2 is the only one I've been on. From what I know, all the training sites have forums for their members.

I am part of a Facebook group called East Vancouver Poker league, and I see the admin occasionally post news stories on there about the poker world. I joined the Black Rain Poker Facebook group as well. That site was started by Vancouver native Nathan Williams, but I don't think the members on it are necessarily Vancouverites. Most seem to be European actually. I've also played on some Meetup.com and Craigslist home games in the past as well.

And... we're back?

According to their websites, Cascades and Grand Villa are re-opening their poker rooms tomorrow (Thursday, February 17, 2022). Can't find any information on River Rock and Parq, but I'm assuming they won't be far behind.

Obviously will be great for those who live closer to that casino than any others, but I'm worried that it will start spreading the action far too thin across multiple rooms.

Also, isn't there a new Delta casino (perhaps with poker room?) in the works? Action was spread way too thin when Cloverdale and New Westminster had rooms and there is a real danger in that happening again, imo. I would much rather play in a single room that had 5 tables going than having that spread across two rooms with just 2 tables going and no threat of a third.

As an out of province player is this a brand new poker room that's opening up in the suburbs? Or has this always been there and it's just now about to re-open after Covid restrictions?
Also how is the action in general in Vancouver? For whatever reason I only ever hear negative things which is odd for such a wealthy place on the west coast. Sounds night and day different than LA.

Thanks

The Hard Rock used to be known as the Boulevard but was rebranded in late 2013. It has mostly always had a poker room (although it, like most rooms in the city, has been reducing tables over the years). IIRC, their dealers went on strike a few years ago (pre-Coronaids, I want to say 2018?) which ended up closing their poker room (thus increasing traffic at neighbouring rooms). But rumour is that they are about to re-open their poker room.

I've always heard it's a tough city to win in due to the level of play, Vancouver. However, I can't imagine paying a $7 rake every hand preflop(or whatever hell they have in California) at 1/3.

They have 13 million in the metro area; we have 2.6 million. I think we only have 4 poker rooms(soon to be 5). PokerAtlas says there's 25 in LA, so about the same/population; not way out of whack.

Per person, there are far more pokertables in LA than in Vancouver. It's not even close The Vancouver rooms are tough primarily because there aren't enough tables for the demand, leading to long waiting lists, which prevent most of the biggest fish from playing, and prevent new players from entering the player pool. The high rake is a secondary factor.

I don't know what 25 poker rooms in LA you're talking about, there's far less than that, but a few of them have huge numbers of tables.

Poker atlas shows 638 available tables in LA, and 28 in Vancouver.

The wait lists are insane. I'm a casual player these days, and the last couple weekends I've took a look at the Parq waitlist on Pokeratlas to see if I could get a couple hours in. Tonight, there are 93 waiting with 5 active tables of 1/2, 32 waiting with 2 active tables of PLO, and 66 waiting with 1 single active table of 2/5. Every single person at each table has to leave like 20 times over before you would get in if you joined now. Absolutely not worth my time as a casual player

That's why Vancouver doesn't have casual players and tables are filled with rocks and regs.

Have you tried going at off peak times?

Was playing at Cascades today and heard that Fraser Downs might open up their poker room again. Anyone else confirm?

Also Villa is going to 24/7 for poker.
