Yep, and when it goes down to 6 players, u gotta ask to reduce the rake or they dont do it.

Wow, so basically the rake has doubled in ~4 years?

Ha, at least they reduce it at shorthanded tables (which they no longer do another local room).

It gets worse and worse. Do we have any power? The arguments, driving games underground, not serving the public good, gambling dollars going South of the boarder; would they have any impact given that against them probably stands increased Government revenue from having more slot machines?

I think there is an anti-gambling group that tries to impact city elections in Vancouver. Really, I don't see why the people of BC tolerate their government promoting gambling through advertising and promotions designed to expose more residents to gambling even knowing that some of those lives will be ruined and would not have been ruined otherwise, and running bingo in casino's to get the old ladies, theatres and even a night club to get more young people exposed.

Advertising works. If they can't advertise they'll have fewer new customers. If they have fewer new customers they will value their current customers more; presumably, this would include poker players.

holy crap, are you serious? $10?!

river rock isn't even a nice poker room any more.

is it even busy with that kind of repellingly high rake? or are they trying on purpose to close the room and push people into home games?

4 tables max, probably they dont care, they'll charge as much as people will pay. tbh, even if it closes down i dont even think they care, the money they make in poker is so minimal compared to VIP baccarat

Anyone here ever play in one if the poker social clubs around in a bar or community social club?

I've played a couple which is how I actually got into the game and they are fine..but also annoying at just the rake and the whole business sort of sense you know?

I've always wanted to host my own, maybe just a once a week or month type thing not for any financial gain I wouldn't rake but just for love of the game.

I don't know how the laws exactly work actually...but say I were to host a tournament with a buy in...is it automatically an illegal game or does it only become one with a rake?

I used to play in a really good home game in burnaby - long time ago, probably 09-10. They played maybe three times a week, with a WSOP package season long point race for one of the evenings, and the other nights were just like 2-table freezeouts with good structure. We all used to drink beers and generally everyone got along quite well.

Yeah I want to do something like that in a league format...but it seems like it would be hard to do without charging rake or anything.

I guess the only one around right now is Revs or the pub leagues..and I honestly don't know how Revs stays open

...and some people still doubt me when I tell them of the outright hostility of Great Canadian towards poker.

Saw a tweeet today from Villa that their finally 9 max instead of 10 a small win

Someone told me that RR is also 9 handed now?

Personally, my style thrives the more players at the table, so I'd argue for 12 handed tables myself (for realz). Certainly hope the trend doesn't extend elsewhere.

So... What really killed poker in Vancouver? It used to be everywhere with multiple events including WSOPC which was a huge success but then nothing.

Why did Vancouver fall off why Calgary/Edmonton/Montreal/Toronto didn't?

Toronto? You mean the city where people have to drive 3 hour round trip or something to play? Or has that changed?

The government sucks, and players attitudes at the table suck too. Parq opening with only 6 tables really hurt too.

My understanding is that river rock was to greedy for the wsop circuit to come back they wanted to much of the pie.

Thursday 745pm, I was curious to see the list on PokerAtlas. Parq, 7 tables, almost no wait lists. (no live for 1/3 and PLO, only 1 live for 2/5, less than 6 call ins on any list.) I won't be going for a while.

Have any of the poker rooms shut down yet? If not yet how many people are still playing?

Im waiting for the Virus to pass before i play live poker again.

I looked on Atlas for curiosity. Parq at Sunday 5pm only has 5 tables, almost no live waiting.

I haven't been and won't be for a while. I assume it's just a matter of time before they are shut down. QC and ON casinos are closed.
