The PLO game is mostly all regs. Hell, I'd say you'd be lucky to see one or two people at the 1/3 table that aren't regs. Normal people just aren't willing to wait with the ridiculous long list, which doesn't die down till around midnight when seats start to open up. Your only other option is to show up around 2 or 3 to get a seat without too long of a wait. I'm only a weekend warrior and I recognize almost every face whenever I go. The PLO game is specifically kept afloat by a few terrible players.

Squamish tourney supposedly hasn't run for years.

Parq poker room seems unofficially confirmed. That's all I really know.

Anyone have experience with 2/5 at the Grand Villa? 1/3 is stupid soft but is 2/5 any tougher? The reason for my question is I am on the verge of moving from 1/3 and 25NL on stars to 2/5 exclusively and I enjoy the atmosphere of the Grand Villa with the huge screen always playing sportsnet and the free coffee lol... I don't really want to move to edgewater just to play 2/5 cause the edgewater atmosphere is **** and its farther from where I live by about 20 mins but ill do it if necessary. fwiw I am not asian haha

Edgewater pretty much never has 2/5.

And I think 2/5 has only been running recently at Villa so it's a new thing so I don't see how anybody could answer your question. Especially since you seem to know the 1/3 game there, so surely you know at least some of the 2/5 player base because it's probably plenty of the same players with some newer "high rollers" coming in just because the 2/5 is there now. You have to assume it'll have a tougher lineup on average than the 1/3 games, but you never know. I think the Hard Rock 2/5 players have moved to Villa because Hard Rock room apparently went to ****.

I used to work at the riverrock, never had a problem with the employer, and I got tons of benefits, great pay etc. First I'm hearing of a problem with the employers. Most of the staff (including me) had problems with the patrons, asian business who were extremely rude and smelly. My first day dealing high limit bacarrat upstairs I got spat on because he lost the first 50k hand.

What's the increased rake? I've been away from Van for 11 months coming back in a month, Riverrock is the casino nearest me too =/

After months of pressure from the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU), management at Hard Rock and River Rock Casinos in the Lower Mainland have agreed to pay workers the money they are owed in earned vacation not taken.

“It’s truly a Christmas miracle that we’ve managed to get this employer to agree to do the right thing and pay our members what they are owed,” says BCGEU Treasurer Paul Finch.

“This victory highlights a fundamental reason why every worker deserves a union: labour laws are sparsely enforced and, without a union, this employer would have continued to break the rules.”

For a significant period of time, the casino workers have been accruing vacation pay for the time that they were owed, but did not take. Instead of paying them out yearly, as the law requires, management has been withholding the money.

“We’re still working out the specifics, but for some workers, the money owed is as much as $5,500,” says Finch.

This announcement comes almost a year after the approximately 2,000 staff at the casinos chose to join BCGEU. Casino staff at Hard Rock and River Rock are still in the process of negotiating a first contract with the casino’s parent company, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation.

“For a company that made $62 million in retained earnings last year, Great Canadian Gaming has no excuse for short-changing its hard-working staff all these years,” says Finch

“It’s only by the collective action of a union that workers can win real improvements to wages, benefits and safety conditions and, in this particular case, recoup the money they have been owed from the employer.”

BCGEU represents thousands of members in casinos throughout BC including several Gateway Casino locations.

Wow I did not know this at all! I got paid out my vacation pay when I quit and never heard of any issues otherwise.

We had plenty of benefits (sunglasses, dental, health etc) free food like big cooked meals, cereal and milk 23/7 15 min break every hour stuff like that, I just couldn't stand the players, and I kept getting sick constantly, the Asian people seem to always be coughing up something, and I was sick about once a month working there. (Not trying to be racist, I'm half Asian)

Just googled rake for riverrock's 1/2 it's 10% up to a max of $5? $1bbb and $1 tip is only $7 a hand.

The game in melbs I'm playing right now is 1/2 50bb cap with 10% rake up to $20 $1bb no tip and a $5 seating charge

Actually that's 2 years out of date.

The rake is now 7+1 at Edgewater, Riverrock, and Cascades. I don't know about the other 2. I think RiverRock might actually be 7+2 because they have some high hand thing also that the others don't have.

The game you are playing in Melbourne can't be beat.

Hey guys,

I'm moving up to Vancouver in the next couple days or so. I know this looks to be a mostly live BnM thread, but I thought I'd check in to see if any of you guys had an extra room to rent out for a bit.

Thanks

Any interest in a midstakes LHE game or mix game? Seems like this could happen in a metro area of this size but I've never seen it.

6 but they'll cram 15 people at each table, so the waiting lists won't be more than a couple thousand long.

It's funny, I never seem to have to wait anymore. Got that timing figured out.

I'm not bothered much by the reduction to 6. More would be better, but 6 is so much better than 0, and not terribly different than the current 8 anyways. It's too bad though, Vancouver could probably be a great poker city. I wish I had played more live back when it was.

for LHE you'd prob have to go to RR and hope the old man degens are willing to up the stakes. But if they're just sitting around hoping for BBJ, good luck with that. As for mix, seems like there are a couple of threads in LCP about cities that have started a weekly mix game, I'm insanely jealous. In theory I'd love it, in practice idk how excited I'd actually be to play 10/20 Stud 8 or some other game I've never played. Though I can imagine a table with a couple of people who know what they're doing and a bunch of clueless people. In other words, just like very other table.

Yeah just weird to think about when the River Rock had 20 tables going. Atmosphere was great.

I played for 5 years at live 2/4 and 4/8 Limit (lowstakes LIMIT, lol) before finally getting into the NL game (which was no doubt a goldmine at the time I was toiling at popcan/hr at Limit), lolz @ me.

games suck at hard rock so bad , i get off school its along the way i dont even bother anymore, its half decent if you're close, the waiting on weekdays is nothing, not sure about weekends as i don't go, but really theres only 4 tables of 1/2 and the only thing attractive is the bbj , thats it. I miss when it was still 6-8 tables and on the right side of casino, now its just a reg nit fest.
