Dunno about other places but Edgewater has 4-8 and 4-8 Kill. Most players in it are pretty bad. It's usually at least 4 to the flop and anyone with a pair will call you down

The places I have played in Vancouver are all the same rake 10% up to 5$ ( + $1 for the bad beat if the pot is over $20) unless the table is really short handed then the floor might reduce the rake.

Depends on what you term beatable, I only play 1-4 times a month, and don't take the rake in to consideration. If I when a pot, sure they get piece, but I try to win bigger pots
I look at as they are reducing the $ on the table, but I only consider my stack, and normal the other players are either adding or subtracting from it.

Rarely. There was some 10/25 running at the River Rock during the BCPC but outside that 5/10 is the highest you're gonna find.

Haven't been there for almost a year. Not a fan. Mostly just 1/2 NL and small LHE games.

I used to play semi-reg at Edgewater 1/2, between July '09 - May '10. Young Aussie kid, played a little too aggro/spewy at times, and regularly built up big stacks only to donk it all off before leaving breakeven at best. A few times held onto the big stacks and cashed out huge.

I got used to the live play at Star City in Sydney, which is incredibly soft, so at first I found Edgewater slightly tougher. More regs and fewer gamblers in the poker room as it was seperate from the casino itself. However, I didn't get to play a lot during peak 'recreational donk' times i.e Friday/Saturday nights.

Whilst I recorded a fair amount of losing sessions, thanks mainly to my incredibly poor self control in knowing when to rack up and leave, I learnt a lot in those 11 months. In general, I found the crowd at Edgewater fairly friendly, the dealers and floor managers were quite knowledgeable and there were never any super long waits for a seat.

However, my favourite room in Vancouver was definately Boulevarde! The 1/2 games there were so soft it was amazing. Like printing money. Played 6 sessions there, recorded one loss after having top set cracked for an $800 pot then running 67 into the almighty K6o on 664 flop for my last $200. Every other session was a winner, with the smallest profit booked being around the $450 mark. Loved it and wished I could have played there more!

Made a straight flush in one session and the floor gave me a boulevarde keyring on top of the donkeys stack! Score!

Played once each at River Rock and Cascades in Langley.

No real opinion of River Rock, only played a few hours and ran pretty bad.

As for Cascades - give it a miss. Not a lot of tables running, and the wait for a seat was pretty killer. They also make up their own rules as they please. Worst floor managers I've dealt with.

Heard a couple of bad stories and saw some dodgy calls, but my shocker was being forced into a min-raise when I'd announced "raise", then thrown in the chips for a call and began cutting out my raise. Dealer stopped me and said I had to min-raise. I called the floor and two of them backed the dealer up. All the commotion cost me at least a call from my opponent, who I conveniently had drawing dead. Sigh...

Back in Australia now, lapping up the fishies at Star City again. I miss Vancouver though! Such a beautiful city! GO NUCKS!

Do any of the fine folks in the Vancouver area want to meet up and have real life conversations about poker (hands, strategy, rooms, players etc.)? I'm just starting to play again after many months of unemployment/using my BR to pay some bills, and it would be good to get to know some other 2+2ers in the city.

What is the max buyin for 1/2NL at Edgewater? I'm going to be in Vancouver in a few months and will prob. play there since I'll be in the downtown area.

Which casino is better for 1/2NL Edgewater or River Rock?
