They closed their poker room like 2 weeks after they opened. I never got a chance to check it out.

It's my understanding (which could be wrong) that some rooms have dropped to 5 tables partially because that is the maximum allowed that don't require a separate dedicated cage / staff.

Apparently Edgewater is closing down early next year to move to another building. It won't offer poker because of bull**** regulations on the max number of gambling tables a casino can have. Are there any other casinos that have a shuffling machine? The games have got to move somewhere.

Does River Rock still have games? Are there fewer tables?

It's not exactly BS regulations. IIRC (this was a few years ago), the public was very much against the expanded casino, so the way Vision got it through was to say Edge can have more floor space but they have to have just the same # of tables. I suppose the hope for us is when they actually move, some money will grease the wheels of the next election campaign, and Vision will go back on the promise and let them expand.

Obvs we all want it to happen, but again, most Vancouverites were against any expansion.

Yep we all need to root for the gambling lobby.

Edgewater's base could easily support a busy 12-15 table poker room.

In good news though the 1-2 just became 1-3 and button straddles are now allowed.

If there's anyone looking to join a home game, PM me. We play low stakes (.25/.50, occasionally higher), it's mostly a 'beer and shot the breeze' game. No one's trying to build a BR, and we don't tolerate a-holes or sexist/racist BS. Mixed crowd, late 20s to early 40s.

What's the rake now for most of the poker rooms?

Earlier this year our 1/3 NL game had it's maximum rake raised from $5 to $6, I'm assuming other local rooms are similar.

6+1 everywhere. No comps, no effort to promote poker, indifferent staff.

Edgewater is actualy 7+1 for the 1/3 holdem, and 10+1 for the omaha game.

What's the deal with the 1/3 regs at edgewater? They can't be earning much more then min wage (if that)

Pretty sure they are almost all recreational players.

Cripes.

My *guess* is that a $1 increase in rake in a 100bb BI game would have about a 1bb/hr affect on a winrate.

My guess is the next step at killing poker will be casinos moving what's left of their "rooms" outside by the bus stop.

Hi guys, I am from Brazil and in February 2017 I'll be moving to Vancouver with my wife, she will study at a college.
I am an online mtt grider and I would like to know about the taxes charged today in Vancouver.
Well, as I do not know anyone who plays poker in Vancouver when I arrive there, it would be very nice to have some grinders friends.
Thank you and feel free to add me on skype in case you want a Brazilian friend, so we can share info about poker, create a great network and have some fun!
Skype: leokenox

PS: Sorry about my english, I'm working on it...

Hey guys, just seeing if there are any Vancouver online grinders here interested in meeting up for a beer and talking some online game. I'd really like to form a small team of ambitious strategy partners, or even just find one really good one.

I was talking with a pro in Cali this week, and we were discussing the rake up here. Down there it's $4, up here afaik everywhere is 7+1. I've always known this but never thought too hard about what it means to our hourly, mostly cuz there's nothing to be done about it. But we worked out some off the cuff #s, it's worth a minimum of 3BB/hr, depending on how you factor in direct lost money from big pots, plus the fact that extra money is siphoned off the table in general.

Like I said, nothing to be done, except maybe spend 3BB on a drink....

Sometimes higher rake partially makes up for itself in terms of weeding out nitty grinders.

Depending on where you are in California, the rake can be anywhere from great to terrible. Some places have a drop too.

I think this would be the case if there wa a viable 2/5+ scene for them to grind, but if it's 1/3 or nothing, well, that's why we see all the same faces every night. I suppose a few of the kids might stay online since there's not as much money to be made live.
