There are plenty of regs, but each table is usually good for 2 ATMs. I try to leave by 11pm, but sometimes I'm not sure I can leave, there's still soft spots asking me to stay.

100% need to call ahead.

The Vancouver casinos hate pojer so much. This city had so much poker potential but they've killed it.

Pretty much this. Waitlists at Edge are often over 40, but they still want to get rid of the poker room.

And with waitlists that ridiculous, casual players can't and aren't willing to do what it takes to get in the games. So the games are just full of the same regs day after day. Once you know who they are, and pop in at some different hours, it's mindblowing how many hours many of them must play, so many just seem to be there day and night every day.

I got into the live scene about 2 years ago, when a friend told me that after Canucks and Lions games, the poker room would be hoppin' with drunks from the game. Total lie. They come to the casino, see the poker waitlist, and blow their wad on BJ instead. If I wander downstairs at midnight on game day, the place is packed with sports jerseys, but none of that money makes its way into my pocket. ;( I can see why the house prefers it this way, but still it's disappointing.

It's almost like there are more profitable uses of the square footage that they prefer instead??

Waitlist of 35, 3 hour wait last Saturday night at Hard Rock

It's not actually a square footage issue, the casino is more than happy to have a poker room, it's a regulatory problem. A poker table is considered a table game and they are limited by the municipal government to X number of table games.

The uncapped Omaha can sometimes be really good. If you can get a seat.

I drive an extra 40 minutes each way each day to play somewhere else now.

The main problem in Vancouver, with waitlists and the worlds worst management, is the overriding rule that "dealers must be scheduled 90 days ahead of time". A direct quote from a room manager last summer at Edgewater.
So, no foresight allowed into how big the BBJ is, or impending Canucks games, or festivals, or maybe real busy nights....no ability to pull a dealer from another area.

Am thinking this is pervasive in Vancouver, and maybe a lot of places in Canada. I've just returned from Niagara, and the waits are similar.

If you play in LV or LA....it will drive you nuts.

Very surprising how bad the poker scene is there- literally the same 7 guys camping at 2/5 all day everyday. It's been about 6 months since I passed through last but I doubt it's any different.

What makes it so surprising the amount of money up there (I mean there are loads of extremely rich Chinese immigrants basically laundering their dirty money through real estate up there) and yet the games are crap. Doesn't make sense

It makes sense because there aren't enough tables. If the wait list typically takes anywhere from 90 minutes - 3 hours or even more to get you into the game during busy hours, the regs aren't going to give up their seats, and the gamblers are never going to get seats, they aren't keen to wait. And because of this, the gamblers over time have been losing interest in poker and there's fewer and fewer of them every month finding their way to the tables.

The games in Vancouver could definitely be top notch if poker had been allowed to operate to keep up with the demand. Instead you'll find some of the nittiest and reg infested 1/2 anywhere.

I'll pretty much only bother showing up to Edgewater after midnight.

It can range anywhere from a bad game to an incredible game. I've seen some nights where an hour of every pot being over 3k and up to 15k or more can happen. And other nights where betting the 2nd nuts is considered bluffing. And some nights you put yourself on the wait list at 9pm and get your seat at 2am.

But 10 handed live PLO can be pretty tilting too for many reasons.

Also, he was asking where I'm playing now instead of Edgewater. I mostly go to Cascades now. The action is better and the lists are shorter.
