Re: Vancouver, BC

Are there any casinos in greater Vancouver with significant PLO8/LO8 action? Or PLO for that matter? Seems like the NLH tables are mostly uninteresting nitfests

Re: Vancouver, BC

Edgewater generally had a decent looking PLO game going every time I been down there. PLO8 as far as I know your gunna be out of luck.

I see a lot of people say the games are nitfests or whatever but they seem juicy as all hell to me still. Pick up tons of uncontested pots & when you flop 2 pair + these nits can never let go of a draw or tptk.

Re: Vancouver, BC

Looking for a poker buddy in Van... I'm from here so I play cash at River Rock & Edgewater a lot. 1/2, sometimes 2/5. Just someone who may like to discuss hands, results, and maybe grab a beer now and then.

Re: Vancouver, BC

I'm thinking of driving up (from Seattle) for the WCPC at the Edgewater. Reading this thread makes me think that the cash games in Vancouver are maybe not the greatest value, but what about bigger tournaments ... any thoughts on the field softness for this event? I can't make it up until Tuesday, so I'd be playing the $300+250+50 Bounty, the $240 super satellite and the $2200 Main.

Re: Vancouver, BC

Vancouverites - anyone have any issue cashing chips from long-held stashes o' chips? I had a weird encounter with BCLC customer service in which the BCLC rep claimed "players are supposed to cash out at the end of every casino visit." I asked: "Is this a rule? The casino in no way enforces it." "Well," she said, "they should. It's sort of a requirement."

She couldn't point to any actual rule but also said she couldn't guarantee chips from prior visits would be honored. How insanely wrong is she? Please say insanely wrong.

I don't know all the rules, but it's for your protection. Think of it from a few perspectives.

* Sometimes casinos change their chips, or re-brand. Usually the old chips are good for only a few months later. If you don't cash them in time, you're SOL.

* It's protection against counterfeiting. This is not to suggest that your chips are counterfeit, but maybe Joe Blow is brining in fake chips. The fewer people brining in chips from the outside, the more confidence you have that you're not getting passed a fake.

* Casinos are required to track all cash/chip transactions exceeding a certain amount in a 24 hour period. By removing the chips from the premesis, you are side-stepping this requirement. (I'm unsure the specifics of money laundering laws, but it's probably in there somewhere.)

You take a risk by removing chips from the property. While it's certainly common for poker players and high stakes baccarat players to do so, it's still a risk. So, no, she's not "insanely wrong".

Anyone have experience playing at Fraser Downs? Closest room to my parents place and when I go visit I thought I'd check it out.

I've only played there once in 5 years. The rake is high because there is the rake, then $1 for the bbjp and $1 for the high hand. I think they may only have hold'em there on certain days so definitely phone first. It's dim and quiet, which I like.

Thanks for this response. I've been in touch with Gaming Policy & Enforcement, who tell me there is no such rule.

If chips were required to be cashed prior to exiting the premises, I believe it would be incumbent on BC casinos to make such a requirement clear and in fact to enforce it. But they don't. As you point out, higher stakes bacc players routinely come and go with chips. (As do poker players.) And the casinos know it full well. They certainly can't ethically or legally accept wagers with chips they don't intend to honor at the cashier's cage, as this would be fraudulent. A bet is a contract. Accepting a bet with no intention of paying in the event that you lose would be either fraud or cheating - illegal in either case.

As to the currency reporting requirements, these apply to cash transactions. Coming or going with chips doesn't affect the reporting laws, in my view, unless a person were deliberately to cash only a portion of the chips in her possession with the intention of keeping her cash transactions below the reporting threshhold of $10K each, which may be a criminal act. IANAL but I try to pay attention to such laws.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond. If anyone has first-hand experience with this issue at BC casinos I'd love to hear about it, on the message board or privately.

I'm not sure why it's an issue? She's right, we prefer you cash out, and if the casino changes chips while you're gone, she can't guarantee they'll be honoured. Why make a case out of it?

'We prefer you cash out' is the exact language used by BCLC. A preference is not the same as a policy, regulation, requirement, law, etc. I believe it has no legal significance at all, but rather, only serves to confuse customers as to the value and nature of casino chips. Customer confusion as to the value of their chips hurts poker, hurts all players, and is injurious to the gambling industry in British Columbia, in whose ongoing success, financial wellbeing, and good reputation I have a vested interest.

Re: Vancouver, BC

Or you could just shrug and move on. They prefer you cash out because it's better for BC not to have an alternative underground currency used by those who wish to launder money. Does it need to be a law? Why do you care?

Re: Vancouver, BC

I'm looking to rent a room or even if someone has space for a month where I can sleep.

Im 27 and just ended a 3 year relationship recently and I'm a ****ty life situation and looking to make some connections.

I need a place for February but seems it's short notice I don't got alot of cash to properly move to my own place.

I'm looking for space to sleep and keep a bag of cloths basically or if someone is looking for a roommate for short term or long term.

I play lots of poker online (and live when I'm not broke) , but I have a job as my main income.

I'm also looking for a 2nd job that's something entry level. I have 8 years kitchen and some management experience. I've also done all sorts of labor jobs from flooring to bit to concrete work.

Toss a PM my way I'd you could help, I'm looking for some buddies too so PM me for a beer or hangout, I could use some friends right now too.

You can Google my username and get a jist of the kinda person I am and we can go from there

For work I'm not picky, for a place to sleep or room I got a $700 budget

Re: Vancouver, BC

Hey people need some info on the games in and around vancouver.

The two rooms I have my eyes on are the edgewater and the river rock.

Just curious how soft the 1/2 games are? Are the regs any good? How is the rake? Which of the two would you recommend?

Anyone playing in either of these rooms as their main game?

Thanks to anyone who can provide any info.
