River Rock and Hard Rock closed now.

Parq and Villa still open now 6 players max at Parq and 5 at villa (wtf).

I think they will be forced to close very shortly though.

Parq now $6 max for 2/5 with an extra $2 for bad beat and high hand what everyone think?

Hey guys, just wanted to see if any Van City locals wanted to discuss the pokers a little bit

I've noticed the home game scene on Pokerstars has really been booming during this Covid time. Alot of casuals are jumping in online for the first time and I've been fortunate to join a few local home game leagues.

I noticed BCLC was promoting a story of a guy winning a bad beat jackpot from playing NLHE online on Play Now. I wonder if that site is even worth trying. I did log on years ago and it was so dead I never bothered returning.

Also, on Meetup.com I noticed there is a $10 Pokerstars.net home game going, where money is transferred through PayPal and paid out, rather than depositing on PS, to save on rake. I wonder how what that league is like to play in.

How has your poker experience been lately?

Anyone know when GV or Parq will be reopening?

Just checking back to see if any Van City people are interested in teaming up to be poker buddies. I've decided to get into playing mainly MTTs online rather than dabbling in different types of poker. I'd prefer to specialize in one form and perfect the subtle nuances to grow my game. Let me know if you are interested in teaming up and growing your game.

Seems like poker in Vancouver is in a coma from which it may never wake up.

Does that sound about right to you?

Heard one of the underground games got raided over the weekend... Wonder how long they investigate those before they raid them

I think there may be a real possibility this could be a death blow, and mostly depends on whether the casino version is ever able to return to something resembling its former self (not that its former self was on a great trajectory either). I would guess that its initial return (however long off that is?) will be some zombie version involving masks / dividers / shorthanded play / likely increased rake / definitely more blinds per orbit / etc., and I just don't think that's going to fly too well.

Right before the casinos closed rake was very reasonable...the thing I worry about is if they try and make the games 4 max and dividers.

6 max with masks I think would be great.

4 max with masks and dividers kills it

Rake was $8 + $1 at the lowest staked NL game, with I believe one of the local rooms going to $10 + $1. That is a fairly horrendous rake.

Heck, even without the pandemic you'd have to guess there was a very good chance of rake being increased in order to help offset the recent increase in minimum wage. Making up for the pandemic costs just increases the likelihood of the rake increasing yet again.

I'm with GG, rake was horrible. Whether it was reasonable depends on your definition, but for anyone who has played even a few times outside of BC, rake up here seems awful. $3+1, 3+2, 4+1 in Vegas and LA. I've played shorthanded at the Bike where they went to zero rake just to keep the table open. Those towns, it goes up to $5 and people scream the sky is falling.

What room was going to 10+1 for 1/3?

At that point might as well play 2/5

Anyways, live poker will be back in a month. 2 max. Atleast parq before grand villa

I was at Parq the last night before shutdown and it was 6+1 for 2/5.

For some reason I can't upload an image and the [IMG] don't work

This looks like pretty good rake to me. Now if it would stay like that who knows.

6 max would be great with alot of the underground games getting shutdown all the tables would be full

What will impact the high level games more: crackdown on money laundering in BC or COVID-19?

I believe it was confirmed a page back in this thread at the RR (of which I had heard rumours of, although had not personally confirmed).

But is that the Parq's normal take or was it just a pre-shutdown special? I'd be very surprised they would be $2 - $4 behind everyone else.

Ah, well good thing RR is a dump already lol.

I think most rooms have a 2/5 running regularly. Cascades doesn't but every time I play there there's always a straddle for the 1/3 and the action is insane.

IIRC normal rake was 9+2 for hold em, both games. They'd drop the rake when shorthanded, most bosses were good about that.

PLO rake was something obscene like 15+2 (maybe 13_2, can't recall)

So a recent underground game in a cafe was shut down..

Makes me wonder has anyone ever played at Revs/Athens? How have they not been shutdown with their cash buy ins? I heard someone say it because it is a "freeroll" and they play for "points"... I dunno

How do you know this?

Also, do you have any specific info on poker at Cascades in Langley?
