This thread is for discussion of news/events in the Austin area, as well as a place to ask questions about poker in the area. This is also the place for discussions about the smaller card rooms in the area that do not warrant an individual venue thread.

Anyone else attending the Fall Mayhem Series at The Lodge? I'm arriving at our new place in Round Rock on Sep 6th and will take a little bit to get settled in, but will be hitting the PLO streets sometime midway through the series.

Great experience at TCH and terrible experience at San Antonio poker palace. TCH well run and good dealers as usual. SAPP had two new dealers out of five who couldn’t do side pots and chop pots without instruction from the players (who got it wrong half the time).

Then got maybe the worst floor ruling that I have ever seen. PLO double board bomb pot. 6 ways, checked to button on the flop who bets 15. EP calls, UTG calls, CO calls. Turns come out, EP checks, UTG pots AI, CO calls. Before the button can act, we realize that UTG +1 still has cards and never acted on the flop. He wants to fold, but table captain (not in the hand) demands to call the floor. Floor rules that 1) the turns come back, 2) UTG + 1 gets to act on the flop, 3) the two original turn cards get mixed and put back as the new turn cards (so we are either getting the original turns or reversed turns and we all know this).

Talked to the floor afterward and he never heard of the “significant action” rule and didn’t realize that UTG + 1 hand should be dead. Also didn’t realize that the natural rivers should come out as the natural turns and that the original turns should get shuffled in and new rivers put.

Gross - I get that it’s a quasi legal club but they should at least hire a competent floor person. They had a 10/25 game going and I can’t imagine playing that deep in a club where the players make up the rules.

Not much that I have seen lately. Your best bet is to try and start a game at the lodge, I think I've seen it go off a handful of times, especially around the tournament series. I've never seen it run at texas card house where I usually play.

It used to go off regularly at what is now red star social back when it was called Austin Poker Palace... but the new room doesn't seem as popular anymore so I'm not sure if it ever runs there anymore.

If you find a game, let me know, I'd love to play as well.

I've seen the list at The Lodge but don't think I've ever seen it go. Even the PLO games for the past few weeks have been less than stellar, too tight, too many regs and grinders.

Rounders in San Antonio used to get a game pretty regularly - check on Poker Atlas to see if it still runs.

I've only played once or twice when I was visiting the area. Last time I played was ~May 2022. Game seemed pretty reg-heavy, but I only played a short time

In Texas, that's not really much of a commute.

If those places are 30 minutes from you, then the San Antonio cardrooms will be about 50 minutes away. You'll probably run into less traffic heading south on I35 at that time. But I don't know that much lately, I haven't lived in San Marcos for nearly 15 years.

When I lived in MA I had to drive 1.5 hours to get to Foxwoods. When I lived in CT I still had to drive an hour and 15 minutes to get to Foxwoods (this was before MA had casinos). 30 minutes isn't so bad

I agree it's not a long drive, but when there for business was hoping to be able to swing by for a few hours, in which case 30 mins each way is a decent % of overall time.

True, plus you have to factor in sometimes you may get stuck waiting for a seat as well

If you're there April 19, I'm teaching a full-day seminar at Georgetown Poker Club in the north suburbs of Austin. Might be fun.

Leftovers every player is dealt 5 hole cards. There is a round of betting and then a flop is dealt. Another round of betting and then players discard none or up to all 5 of their hole cards.

Whatever you keep in your hand, you MUST play. So if you hold onto 3 cards you will play those 3 plus 2 from the board, etc.

Are any additional cards dealt to the board after discards?

Yes, it's dealt just like a regular board so:

Preflop - deal every player 5 hole cards, round of betting ensues

Flop - Deal 3 community cards, then Round of betting, players discard whatever they wish from their hand and play what they keep

Turn - Deal 1 card, round of betting

River - deal 1 card, round of betting
