Don't think that black Friday really matters here as there are still plenty of under 21'ers who play poker in New England and I'm sure many of them are chomping at the bit to play in a "real" card room as opposed to the home games they play in now... being only 16 tables it wont take many youngsters from around New England to take over the dynamic/demographic of the room. I know one thing for sure there will be many more of them at Twin River than at Mohegan and Foxwoods combined (yes, I have a very keen sense for the obvious... lol )

Played with one of those online under 21's at Foxwood's a few months back. Playing plo, pretty good size pot pre flop, action to him he bet half pot. Don't have that button in live poker!

I am from RI and worked at Newport Grand ( slots only casino). It's against state law to serve free alcohol to anyone. Has nothing to do with the age limit

This is not correct. Rhode Island is one of the 13 states with commercial casino gaming that ARE allowed to serve free alcohol.

Rhode Island from one corner to the opposite corner is around an hour, maybe an hour 15 minutes. You can drive from Southern NH to the beaches in RI in just 2 hours.

Very convenient area to live.

Why doesn't Twin River do it then?

So the other week, Wednesday June 24th to be precise - the Grand Opening of Plainridge Park Casino happened. I went, since I live right down the street from it in North Attleboro. The place was packed, and actually pretty decent; Completely smoke-free, and some some nice(r) restaurants / quick food places surrounding the main casino. Of course, its slots only, so there was nothing for me there and I'll never go back unless they add a poker room.

ANYWAY, the reason I'm posting ITT is because when I left the casino and got on Rte 1 South to head home... first thing you see is a nice, large billboard indicating POKER ROOM AND SMOKE-FREE GAMING coming this August to TWIN RIVER CASINO! So they are actually doing real advertising for this! This morning I noticed they have the same billboard on Route 1 north now as well (yes, I literally drive by Plainridge every day on my way to work. Why can't they have poker? Why!)

I'd guess the same reason Newport didn't but am only guessing. If there isn't any real competitors in the area why would you give away tens of thousands of dollars in revenue per day? It isn't like people are saying "I'd rather drive the extra hour to get free drinks at Foxwoods." Would the added draw offset the revenue without having a nearby competitor?

Nothing on the website or anywhere else regarding applying for a poker dealer position, just table games.

When did it change? I was last there 10 years ago and there was no alcohol anywhere. restaurants were all BYOB.

Dealer at Foxwoods told me that they keep pushing back the opening date for the Poker Room. Anyone hear of a "firm" date?

What does a slot parlor have to do with poker players? They should have opened one last year to take advantage of the MA poker crowd who now has other options in NH. Per usual, Rhode Island is a step slow.

Stopped by on Sat after work and a pit boss told me Sept. They are working on it right now. There are curtains and a sealed off area that will clearly become the poker room on the 2nd floor.

Their top priority is adding non-poker tables to the second non-smoking floor as alot of patrons want it. Poker is coming, but doesn't seem to be top of the agenda for them because it's not anywhere near the money maker that blackjack/bac/other table games are.

I would also caution getting overly enthusiastic for the room because the rake could be insanely high. RI's cut from them on slots is among the highest in the country, and a couple people I trust who have ties to Twin tell me you can expect the table game rake to be in line with that.

Currently, I am at Foxwoods ALOT. Twin is 2 min from me. If they get a serviceable poker room that is decently run with beatable rake, my days as a FW reg will be pretty much over.

I'm not holding my breath, since theoretically it could be an awful room with awful rake (and currently the non-smoking floor is awfully smoky ) and it will still be absolutely packed. They could do the bare minimum and the wait to play will be hours early on. I just won't be one of the ones waiting if it's not a decent experience.

I know with NH just approving NL, and Twin opening a poker room, and Mass poker rooms on the horizon, FW's poker room is in big trouble. Still, it's the best run poker room currently in New England. I want to give Twin River my business, but they have to actually care.

I live in MA so Twin River is much closer to me, and I hope the room is good enough that I don't have to make the long trek down to FW/MS once it opens.

What troubles me is:

-The rake will be too high
-The level of play of the competition won't be poor enough
-The room will be so small there will always be waits to get a seat

No matter what I'll check it out opening day, for sure!

Today I visited the under-construction poker room. Busy, but a long way away from completion. Was told by an employee in a suit that the table games will open in Aug. The poker room will open in Oct.

Thanks for the info. Sounds about right. The only time I visited TR, I didn't see anyone wearing a suit. Sounds like they want to emulate MA and delay things as long as possible.
