1.5 hours??? I just mapped Manchester NH and Burlington VT to both FW and TR and FW was only 20-30 mins farther. If you're traveling that far you're more likely looking for a full resort (i.e. on-property hotel) than just a poker room and will go the extra 20-30 mins. Plus NH is about to implement NL in their poker rooms. I don't think TR will draw in anyone north of MA.

If TW offers a competitive rake and some kind of comps I think it has a chance to be successful. The interesting thing for me is how it affects the many many many home games that run in MA and RI.

A couple of things I hope they do is,,,,

1) sign up with Bravo right out of the gate, in order for players to see what games are running and how long the list are

2) get quality floor, that have all dealers in concert with above basic rules, like the ones at Foxwoods where a player can get different rulings from floor to floor. I'm talking about action out of turn, forward motion with chips then a player can cut out a portion of chips in hand, etc. Make the rules whatever you want, but make sure players will get the same ruling every time.

Can anyone tell me if they currently play at Twin Rivers what they have to use comp points on? Is it just restaurants?

The Casinos in Springfield and Boston, Mass will capture those players. Twin Rivers will draw heavily from Providence, Central & South Eastern Mass.

google maps says 1 hour and 7 mins from TR to MS and thats at 11:30pm with zero traffic (the route through TR to FW/MS from Boston/Cape Cod has traffic most of the day)

coming from Boston/Cape Cod/ etc thats exactly the route that would be taken to MS/FW

springfield MGM wont be open for literally years

obviously when Wynn and MGM are open in MA the TR poker room will lose the overflow theyre going to get but at 16 tables they'll still be plenty fine even when Wynn/MGM poker rooms have matured

With zero traffic and exceeding the speed limit you can "maybe" get from TR to both FW and MS in 55 minutes but that is a stretch. It is a solid 1 hour drive and that is without traffic.

From VT/NH/ME you would not take the same route to TR as you would to FW/MS, hence the shorter difference.

I was referring to your coming from VT/NH/ME claim. Those people would not be taking 95 through RI to get to FW/MS, so the overall commute difference is shorter than just measuring the distance from TR to FW/MS.

everyone coming from the coastline (majority of population, especially the fragment of population with disposable income) of NH and ME will be coming 95

I used to drive from Kingston to FW all time. It's pretty far. To get to foxwoods you have to drive on side roads for long time and there's usually casino traffic. Mohegan you gotta drive for awhile on 95.

At least thats the route I always took. TR is not "right off 95". You gotta drive through some rural areas first.

THEY DONT DRIVE BY TR TO GET TO FW!! they take completely different routes, so measuring the distance from TR to FW is disingenuous.

I learned in this thread that places in New England are a lot closer together than I thought they were. I was wondering how the same people could be discussing casinos in different states.

That's just because they're geographically challenged. Coming from up that way, swinging over to 395 is an easier ride with much less chance of traffic issues. When I lived in Medford, I never went through RI to go to FW or MS.

Huh? Twin River is closer to I-95 (I - 295 if coming from Boston) than either Foxwoods or Mohegan, with no "rural areas" in between. from any direction, you drive through suburbs for all of 4 blocks to get to TR(as compared to 8 miles of 2 lane roads to FW).

I will stop and check it out on my way to an overnighter at Foxwoods.

16 tables i think at first will make hard to get in a game at first.

Games and stakes I think have the potential to go mid stakes and above. Any one whom would normally travel the 95 south rt from points north in ri and ma this is a much better commute and closer to the highway.

I think there's a whole dynamic here that people aren't taking into consideration. If what I'm hearing is true and the room will be 18+ then you can bet the demographic of the room will be all the 18-19-and 20yr olds within 100 miles that want to play poker but cant play at Foxwoods or Mohegan. I believe that the room will be filled with backpack toting, flat brimmed cap sporting, mirrored sunglasses wearing, Beats by Dre listening under 21yr olds who are looking to launch their poker career to greatness... from Twin River to the WSOP final table If it is indeed going to be an 18+ room then I think it will greatly change what the room will be like, how it will play, what games/stakes will be run, and who will be there playing. I think the room will put the biggest hurt on all the New England home games that feature under 21yr old players while not really impacting either Connecticut casino

What's your source for the room being 18+?

For one thing, that will mean no alcohol in the room (not that they give free drinks anywhere)

Why would the poker room have different rules than the rest of the casino?

Since kids in this range were probably like 13 to 15 when black Friday happened right?
Don't think I will be as big an issue as you think most of those types are good for the game any way.

Someone in the FB group said they called and confirmed it.

Now that I look at the web site, I guess the whole property is 18+. The section on the rewards card says you have to be 18. No reason to have a rewards card if you can't use it.

In any case, I don't see why they wouldn't serve alcohol. They'd just card anyone who looks 25-ish, I suppose. I can picture this bringing the game to a screeching halt, as the guy whose action it is tries to fish out his DL.

I guess alcohol service won't be an issue since it's not free at TR anyway, especially if the whole casino is already 18+, they must just card you when you pay.

I was more thinking about places like Turning Stone which is 18+ but the whole property is dry.
