Funny stuff.

I really like the place. In fact it is my favorite place to play. I was there in December and came in 8th in the Knockout and again in March and came in 15th in that one.

The venue (especially in August) is perfect. Golf courses are in great shape and the State Fair is about to get underway. (I am not sure if it will coincide with this event but if not that is too bad.)

Turning Stone is a beautiful facility and the regulars are pretty nice. There is a lot of action in a nice size poker room but the big tournaments are played in a cavernous room upstairs. It is just an about an hour's drive longer than AC from NYC and frankly a far nicer trip along better roads and prettier scenery.

There is a lot of stuff to do near and at the Casino.

Look it is not a Vegas or Atlantic City atmosphere but it is a fun room(small compared to those two cities or Mohegan or Foxwoods) and everyone there wants to know your name. I like it a lot and I hope to be there for most if not all of it.

Idk where you are when you say the place stinks, because I've never experienced that.

I agree the daily tourneys aren't very good, I hate how they changed it to "deepstack turbo", but the series they run aren't that bad. There's some good value tournaments, I like the 15k chips, 30 minute levels. Would 40 minutes be better? Well of course, but then you'd probably have to make all of the events two days.

As far as people who know nothing about poker...well I'd say Mike does a pretty good job at listening to the players, he's always on here answering questions and tweaking things. Hell I've seen him change a main event structure based on what people were posting on here.

Sorry you feel that way. If you explaine your dislikes I can most likely fix them if they make sence...
I know we have a large staff and I do know poker.. Since many bracelet winners and highly respected players have given many compliments, I am curious to see what your dislikes are..

I in general enjoy turning stone.....two things I don't understand are the $2 time card and the cards have no backs on them and don't have auto shufflers....really no security measures and I mean that in all seriousness

Turning stone in my opinion last year when I was going there alot was no booze...I love that can't stand booze and has 18 yr old age limit...that opens up the flood gates for new players...

I just remember getting a huge attitude at the podium more then once and that's unacceptable...podium should be the friendliest place in the room

But in all fairness many ts staff left for positions in pd airy and sands and many have bad attitudes dealers and floor alike....so very possibly ts staff now is the good people I'll be there next week hopefully there is a PLO8 game rolling

And as for the 30/60 game at pd that's too rich for my blood but I've been known to take shots

Still allow the 18yo but they've had booze for quite awhile now.

TS doesn't offer PL betting - it's either FL or NL.

so i have a soft spot for the TS since I cut my teeth there so to speak during my Ithaca college days. Back then Pete (poker room director-not "the beat") was running things and there was this saucy redhead floor person who was a bit older who I wanted to get with, unfortunately for her and me, she ended up getting with one of the dealers and i think she got demoted. Anyway I digress.....

To me, since then TS has improved in many ways:

There is now booze there, which obviously was a huge turnoff for some people, especially casual players
The tournament structures although not GREAT, are much much better then they used to be, and I have to commend "No Gimmicks" for getting the HPT to come back as the TS can't be taken seriously with a bunch of 18 year olds playing "Big Buy In" major events for like 375 dollars that like 85 people play in.

Having played in every major cardroom from TS down to florida, I can say that of course it doesn't compete with places like the borgata or even foxwoods as far as action, game selection etc, but there are also less problems with some floor people, dealers, staff etc at TS then there are at some of the "bigger rooms" or at the very least, for every gripe about the stone, there is an equivalent or different gripe with places like foxwoods or mohegan.

TS is a nice little room which caters to the economics of central new york (where nearly every major city-rochester, utica, cuse etc) has turned to **** due to the manufacturing economies the cities were built on having died out long ago. The fact of the matter is, it's central new york, there isn't the economy and the money to support some of the action that some 2 +2's are used to. All that being said I think for their stakes and game selection I've always had a pleasant experience playing there for whatever amount of money it was.

I like playing in the tournament series' that they have every couple months, but give us some examples of "stuff to do" (other than the obvious golf) because IMO it's in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do.

Stud. STUD!!!! Omaha tourneys. It always kill your brushes to put a game up on the board that isn't normal. Who is it going to hurt if there is an interest list for 5/10 limit hold'em? 1-5 stud? 5/10 Omaha 8? 4/8 HORSE?

That's my only complaint.

$5/$10 LO8 does run on weekends right? About what time does it start up? Around same time as afternoon tourney?
A horse rotation would be nice, hell a $5/$10 LH/LO8 mix would be a giant step in poker variety evolution for TS poker room.

NO - it is always FLO8 and it usually is 5/10 - sometimes on weekends (esp tourney weekends) it is 10/20.

i just moved upstate and i am wondering is TS worth driving 1.5 hrs to play 2/5NL, or is it very soft?
Quote

yes. find a cheap room and you'll pay for your stay in like 2 hrs in a 2/5 game for the weekend.
