Thinking of heading to the Stone Friday night to take a shot in the $75 ECPC Satty SnGs.
Anyone know how soon I'd have to register for one to grab a seat?
Say I make the Main...how much $$ should I bring to stay a night or two + food etc?
Thanks for any help.

From my experience...

I find the 2/5 at TS to be easier than the 2/5 at Borgata.

1/2 at TS is too nitty.

i notice there are a lot of regs. not sure of their general skill level tho but good to hear its easier than borgata.. and the rake is the same for 1/2 as 2/5 right? 1/2 rake plus the nittiness makes it too annoying for me

The 20/40 starts around 11am-noon. If there are enough names on the list they sometimes open a must move 20/40 sometime during the afternoon. If the right players are there a 50/100 runs at some point after 6 or 7pm. That is hit or miss though.

As far as the 2/5 game, most of the players are way nittier and far less aggressive than 2/5 players at other casinos. A lot of regs play their hands straightforward postflop but there are a few regs that are somewhat tricky. In general the game plays much smaller than most 2/5s.

In the past month or 2 they have been getting a 5/10 started. It is 300min no max buyin so it has the best structure of any of the games but also plays extremely small since most of the players are 2/5 guys that aren't great at adjusting to 5/10.

The 1/2 varies greatly, some games are super nitty but at least there are usually 5+ tables and on average at least 1 of them is a pretty good (loose) game. So if you are stuck on a bad one just ask for a table change.

You notice correct. I'd say the majority of TS regs (primarily older demographic) are okay ABC players. They have of an idea of what they're doing, but you won't get any advanced plays outta them. Don't get me wrong, there are some great younger players there.

I believe the rake is the same. Other TS regs correct me if I'm wrong.

On a side note, to this day i have never had better cocktail/beverage service than the Borgata, seriously unreal.

I must have gotten the one non-nitty 1/2 table last night. Plenty of action and ppl moving chips around the table. It definitely made a nice interlude to an in-law visit.

Will be there 2 nights starting 6/13 for some 1/2 and 2/5. Lots of regs indeed, but the room has a certain charm...and I'm addicted to the weekend poker room rates. Foxwoods and Mohegan are ridiculously expensive by comparison.

Curious how many Syracuse area folks are around and are TS regulars or frequenters? I've been out west for a couple years, and now that I'm moving home Id love to start grinding again. I used to have a couple regular buddies I always made the trek with, but most have moved away, and my good friend who I used to go play with a lot passed away while I was out of state. Many of you I'm sure knew him and played with him. So I am left in poker limbo, a kanish with no Mike McDermott.

Yes it was sadly. He and I had been playing home games together since our early teens , long before his TS days. We went to HS together, I couldn't believe it when I heard, we had fallen out of touch for a couple years because I moved. I'll always remember him fondly.

I want to start grinding at the stone now that I'm moving home, but he was my only serious poker friend, everyone else just liked to "gamble" instead of grind

So no Bravo for TS?

Coming on a Friday evening in August. Questions:

Prefer limit or OE, 5/10-10/20 range--what is likely to be running?

Do they take call-ins?

Thanks

Prepare to be disappointed.

Pretty sure they only run PLO for Omaha. 2/4 is their limit hold 'em game. 2/5 is the highest I've seen for no limit hold 'em, 3-4 tables for Fridays. Don't know about call-ins.

Most of this is not true.

There is a 5/10 limit (w/kill) OE game that runs all day and into the night every Friday. (You didn't ask about PLO, but since DL mentioned it, they tried to get PLO going last year but it never took hold. A game may spring up during big tournament series but even then it is a rare and short-lived event.)

There is usually a high limit hold 'em game running Friday night; how high depends on the players in the game but 20/40 is probably the most common. (And again, you did not ask about no-limit but since DL mentioned it, 2/5 is always running on Friday night and they have been getting some 5/10 running recently.)

No Bravo but you can call in up to an hour before you arrive. I posted the number a few messages back in this thread.

August has a two week tournament series in the room, so if you are there for one of the two Fridays during the series, the room should be jumping. On the other hand, if it is not one of the tournament weeks and the weather is nice, the room could be pretty slow. But the OE game and high limit games should be running in either case.

I know during the tournaments sometimes they get a short handed 10-25 NL game going.

I called the poker room a few days ago and they said they wouldn't have details about the august series until very last minute-it sounded like as of now they have very little planned. If somebody who goes there could inquire about this in more detail i know a lot of people would appreciate it.

I saw a flyer there this past weekend regarding satellites to the August Main Event but I did not take it so all of this is from late Saturday night memory (in other words, do not take any of this as gospel.). Two-for-one satellites for the main event are taking place on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 starting this weekend. It looks like the Poker Night in America folks are back behind the series and the ME will be a quarter million guarantee (I can't remember the buyin amount for the satellites or the ME; I would guess the same $1650 as last year). The series will run from August 4-17.

I did not see any information about the series itself and again, this is all from my semi-dependable memory of a flyer, so caveat emptor.

I trust you will understand when I choose not to answer this question, but I am curious as to why you are asking.
