IIRC they just recently laid off some dealers, perhaps that was the real reason?

1 complaint I have about turning stone is beer prices. If i'm gambling at a casino which is EV-, why not give me free beer. The fact that I can go to AC and drink beer for free while playing the games is so much better then T-stone. I mean imagine how much money people would spew if they were drunk playing craps or other games. Turning Stone would be much better if beer was free.

I think it has something to do with kids that are 18 are allowed to go to TC. They prolly don't wanna get in trouble with underage drinking.

Could be that, or maybe NY is closer to PA law than NJ. Plus it's so far away from AC it's not like they're competing.

I haven't been to TS in a while - but have heard they do serve alcohol now but you have to pay - can someone provide details like cost, options, etc?

The alcohol at the Turning Stone is handled through CD Food & Beverage...

CD Food & Beverage will keep 100% of the profits from the alcohol sales, but must pay state and county sales tax along with an Oneida Indian Nation sales tax. That amounts to a 16.25% tax, Carmen said. On top of the tax, CD Food & Beverage will pay the Turning Stone Casino a management fee to lease roughly 1,200 of their workers.

IMO, the Turning Stone dealers are overall very solid. I can count on one hand the number of dealers there that I don't consider proficient. I don't play many tournaments but when I do I notice that there is a general decline in the mood of the dealers. It isn't uncommon for the dealers to openly gripe about having to deal tournaments.

In general, Friday nights are the only time of the week when bigger games get spread. The 20/40 on Friday nights is now the only non-2/4 LHE action. 5/10 Omaha8 also runs most Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

I'm not old enough but I believe it's 5 bucks for a cup (same size cup as the other beverages?) and 7 for a bottle?

Games are very very soft. I wouldn't say there are too many nits but I have been at a table once or twice where it seemed like no one wanted to play for more than the min pre-flop. Not exactly a bad thing

And if that does bother you just get a table change and the odds are good you'll be facing $60 pots pre-flop instead.

yeah they get loose and soft real fast, especially on a busy night. I am usually one of those nits, but you'll find me trying to get a Stud Game in or a higher limit game like 4/8 or 5/10.

By nits I mean too nitty, like they'll fold to cont bets alot etc... basically TOO passive turning them into a fish, since they are easy to get them off a hand.

Hey, I;m going to the turning stone casino in new york on the 27th-29th. I need to know what are some of the promotions turning stone has, as far as chip bonuses for buying chips or points for playing etc. Any help would be great. BTW I'm going to be playing cash games not tournaments. Is there a thread for live play?

Not really. Expect to play 1/2NL $200 max, 2/4 limit, or most nights run a 2/5NL (i think it is) $500 Max. Friday nights and Saturday nights you may see on the board a 5/10 limit on occasion and a 5/10 NL no cap. If they don't have what you want, you can try to garner interest by getting it on the board, but good luck!

Thanks man, really appreciate your advice. I'm going down with a few poker friends, are there typically alot of table at 1/2 nl? And one more question, If one of my friends is at the same table as me and may need some chips, can I pass him chips? (not chip dumping but literally giving him chips/cash?)

Yeah they at least have three tables running even at off peak times, and I normally go on like Wednesday mornings lol

As for the chip passing, I don't think they allow it. I've never seen anyone do it there.

Turning stone is less than 90 minutes away from me (if you have an idea where i live, its not very far, and the closest for me) so I spent quite a bit of time there.

The 5/10 is never no cap. Its always 1000 max. Havent been at TS all summer, but 5/10 runs extremely rarely at non tournament times and will usually run at least for some amount of time on the weekends of a tournament series.

And I love a lot of things about TS, but I wouldn't hold your breath on them trying to "garner interest" by putting something up on the board.

You're at TS every Friday and would say they "normally" run a 5/10? UNless things have changed dramatically over the summer that hasnt been the case for the last 3ish years. Who are you?

the last time i was there in June, they were running a 5/10NL no cap with about 7 players playing. When I was going there normally last year, they were running a 5/10 with a 1K max, but when I saw the game up in June there wasn't a cap on it. Must have been a one time thing, then.

I'm Mike btw, but if you don't know me by my handle, you won't know me.

Pretty sure I said they normally run a $5/$10 NL OR a $20/$40 limit game on Friday.

I'm the kid with the sideburns.

Are there any other good places in NY to play some 1-2 NL? I'm in Albany for a short while and Turning Stone is too long of a drive for me.
Quote

No, the nearest legal poker room to Albany is Turning Stone. Next closest is Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun. Within 100 miles of Albany there are only private games.
