I plan to play at TS on Sat. night, 2/18. I'm strictly a 1/2 NL player. Have not met any 2+2ers before, but wouldn't mind introducing myself. If you'll be at TS, feel free to PM me.

Nate, finally had a chance to feel your pain friday night in a similar situation. I pretty much have a lock on the hand OTT with a straight and redraw to a flush. It's 3way and before the action closes the dealer burns & turns the river.

Floor comes over and instructs dealer to shuffle river card back into stub and deal it again. Just as floor is instructing dealer not to show cards in the stub, he shows the cards to all 3 of us while he is straightening up the deck! Luckily the 1st river card was on the bottom of the deck.

The hand didn't turn out any different but could have been disastrous for me if for example my flush hit the first time & then was taken away.

Fold

Were the cards picked up so the player could see them instead of straightend pre-shuffle face down on table?

Yes that is correct. Seems to be a recurring problem unfortunately.

Ouch. For whatever it's worth, I've talked to a few of the floors about this now. Most seem to understand that in poker it's important to keep hidden cards hidden.

Word seems to get around about some of these things, so talking to other floorpeople about them can help the right people to understand that the cards need to stay face-down.

All my best,

Wow, you can't seem to catch a break with that one floor, huh?

Would you consider yourself a "regular" in this room?

Not quite a regular, but everyone seems to remember me every time I come in. I play maybe 25-35 hours a month, mostly at 2-5.

I do play at night, but I play long sessions. I think many of the hours I play happen on day shift.

I'll introduce myself the next time I'm there, though school commitments will keep me away for a while. If you're curious who I am, there's an old but fairly faithful picture of me here.

I play there about 2x a year and it is anything but a "Dive". It is one of the most beautiful hotels (I stay at the lodge) and in the spring summer and early fall features some of the best golf in NY.
Lava brings the nightlife of a big city club to Verona. It is a fun place and the concerts and other feature acts are as good as any casino anywhere. The restaurants are not as flashy as those in Connecticut or AC but they are a great price and the food if not flashy is solid (besides I love the Brazilian place)

As for tournaments, with the Heartland returning to the TS line-up it is improving regularly.

Really, I play at MS and the Fox as well as Montreal and AC and TS holds up just fine against all of them. I don't know where you play, but for the price and the extras I'd spend as much time at Turning Stone as I could.

I wouldn't call it a dive (even though I've posted a laundry list of complaints in this thread).

ACShark--

I don't really care about any features of a casino other than the poker, but this paragraph makes me think you're trolling or something. If you actually believe, e.g., that "the concerts and feature acts are as good as any casino anywhere," we can find a way to bet on it and you can name your stakes.

I agree, though, that calling TS a "dive" is not accurate. These threads will naturally attract stories about the best and the worst stuff that happens.

All my best,

1-2 table, 9pm Saturday evening. The dealer is giving advice to a player...telling him it was the right decision to fold JJ preflop, after being 4bet. The dealer put the player on AA KK or AK. He goes on to tell the player to take a break, grab some food, and return with a clear head.
Some of the dealers at Turning Stone need to pay better attention to the game. I think it's good that the dealers are social, but when a conversation about the cost of heating a home inteferes with the game, and it did, it's time to focus more on the game. Allowing a new player to play his first hand while on the button, incorrectly pushing pots to players (twice), incorrectly calling a players hand (which almost made me fold the winner), and flashing burn cards all happened.
The 1-2 games are great, but overall, the dealers are some of the worst....and I have been playing live for over 10 years.

When I read this, I realized I am a fossil. I enjoy country music and cannot find any in my home area anymore, so Loretta Lynn, Glen Campbell and Wynonna (and George Jones) are for me great entertainment. I hate most Rap and a lot of the new stuff too (Like Nikki Menaja??) So seeing them is fun for me. They even have Lewis Black!

Now Foxwoods is not bad for me either with Niel Sedaka, Toni Braxton & BabyFace, Paul Anka, Dierks Bentley and Daughtry. In all I think this is comparable.

Mohegan Sun doesn't offer me much as I have never even heard of most of the bands playing there (they do offer Orleans and Kevin James, Neil Diamond and Ringo Starr and Glen Campbell) but what is a Blink 182? And they have a opening act called the "All American Rejects." which I figure is just another Republican Presidential Primary debate..."

All I am saying is that I think TS is worth the trip (about an hour and a half more than Foxwoods from me). Despite my screen name, I am not a big South Jersey guy so I don't go to AC except to play cards. The MRS. hates it there. Hence if I am going with her, it is Sun, FOX or TS. I am going to look at the entertainment at the Pa. Casinos in the Poconos

One more thing TS has going for it; It plays its Heartland tour tourney around the same time as the NYS Fair. A lot of good country acts play there too and it is maybe 45 minutes or so from the casino.

Either way, it ain't no dump.

I admire the honesty. Maybe I'm being harsh because last weekend all sorts of people were there to see the lead singer of Staind. Also, you haven't even mentioned Las Vegas casinos... Pretty sure the Venetian would have something to say about this whole discussion.

Agreed that TS is no dump, though I really hate how smoky the whole place is. But I have lots of family from upstate NY, and I know that some things just aren't negotiable. (I'm also a vegetarian, but I'm not stupid enough to expect lots of non-meat food options.)

So far I have spent roughly 5000 hours of my life in casinos, almost exactly 2 of which I've spent seeing shows. Why leave the poker room?

All my best,

--Nate
