Asked this earlier but now my friends are inquiring- what's the deal with alcohol service there? Supposedly you have to pay even if you are playing at the table but am curious about details such as types of drinks offered and the price per drink. Also, are non- alcoholic drinks still free?

From what I remember as of 6 months ago you had to pay for alcohol but soft drinks were free. Some guys would sneak in their flasks for rum and coke. Never saw anyone get in trouble for it.

Some notes on Sunday's trip.
  • Soft drinks are free to players. Mixed drinks (at least at the sports bar are $8. Cheapest beer is Coors Light @$3/bottle
  • 1/2 NLHE is soft. A nice mix of stations, nits and maniacs, in roughly that proportion from greatest to smallest.
  • They sometimes run a Poker rate on the $169 Tower rooms. I don't know the rate or the schedule. It wasn't running this Sunday.
  • Dealer quality over 5 hours ran from friendly/excellent down to adequate.
  • The 11AM Sunday tourney was on the website schedule as a $150 BI IIRC. Actual BI was $350 with 20min blinds and 20ish players .
  • Watch out for the $.25 9/7 Double bonus VP machines, they're actually $25

How are the tournaments there lately? I'm planning a trip next week (never played poker at a casino...haven't even been there in years) I see the regular weekly schedule on the website bout wanted to know about other tourneys. Whens the best time to go? What kind of buy-ins? Looking for some smaller buy-ins...under $100. Also heard the stud games are good, might play some cash while I'm there as well.

Little out of date there. Despite me trying my hardest, no stud in a long time outside the old guys game that was running tuesday and thurdsay mornings.

Limit holdem is a little better, you do see a 20/40 running rarely on the weekends, and just barely a 2/4 running all the time.

I havnt been to Turning Stone in 4 years roughly. Glad to see they finally got some alcohol being served as I do remember alot of flasks at the poker tables back in the day.

Great place to get comfortable with a casino atmosphere playing live poker compared to internet play. I remember going at 18 years old while visiting some friends at Albany and surrounding colleges. I remember being snowed in there for new years many years back. Really wanna get back there but aint looking forward to the 6 hour drive.

Saw a reg (Sam) completely melt down on Sat night, took 4 floor guys AND security to finally boot him out. Reason for the meltdown? He won an all-in and demanded to see the losing player's hand...losing player instamucked and then he went OFF. Extremely poor etiquette which demonstrated this guy's complete lack of class...other highlights were him literally throwing tips at dealers, including before a hand was over, implying he would win every hand.

Situation was dealt with very professionally by the staff, as always.

Couple quick questions since I'm not from the area. I have a friend who drives through Syacuse regularly and then back home 3 days later. If I get dropped off in Syacuse, is it easy to get to Turning Stone from there without a car? Are there shuttle buses going back and forth?

And once I get to TS, do they offer full or partial hotel comps depending on play? Are there cheaper motels nearby? What kind of costs am I looking at over a weekend? Ideally will try to keep hotel costs as low as possible since I'll be alone and only needing a bed and nothing fancy.

Let me know and thanks in advance for the help.

One other thing, does the casino ever go dark over the weekends, or will there always be games?

Syracuse is about 20 minutes away - so I would assume there are casino shuttles leaving there (you'd have to google it). Worst case scenario - you could take a cab.

There is a Fairfield Inn right across the street from the property and a microtel right down the road (maybe 10 minute walk)

You could also call ahead and try to get a room at poker rate (IIRC it's $80/night)

The room doesn't go dark - there are games running 24/7 on the weekends

Any idea when the schedule for this will be released Mike? Buy-ins starting at $190 again? Any 6max going on? Will most of the events be 15k 40mins (superstack)? Or will they be the standard 15k 30mins?
