I will be coming down from Northern Illinois for the tourney at the Hollywood, I really hope people will support this tourney and room. While I was in Tunica for the WSOP at the show, I ended up playing most of my time at the Hollywood. They Truly appreciated the fact they had action. I played a couple hours and never had a problem getting a $30 food comp. Also it was nice hearing thank you from dealers and seeing floor people doing everything they could to get more games going.

If it is like last year, will be 5 or 6 tables... WSOP circuit Event in St. Louis will be where the action is..

I don't need to go to where the action is, I would rather go to the place that makes economic sense to me. Every dollar saved is an extra dollar in bankroll. 5-6 games will be fine with me, with a few tournies thrown in.,

When harrahs closed in May, I stopped going to tunica because I really liked to use the Friday night hotel poker rate to stay overnight when I played at horseshoe. Is that still a no-go now with basically no rooms available at horseshoe? I think they offered some at that motel you pass on the way in, but no thanks to that.

I might go down a try Hollywood, what no limit games can you find there on the weekends? Do they have poker rates for their hotel?

You will be very disappointed if you drive that far to play in this Hollywood series. He meant 5-6 tourney tables and only 1-2 cash games both weekends I went last year. Think only two of the tourneys got more than 50 people and I knew about 80% of the people there. Was all tunica regs with a few circuit grinders who traveled up. I'm sure those who traveled won't be coming back. Most of us didn't even stay to play the main event on the second weekend cause it only got 20 entries. Just got right back in the car and drove over to horseshoe.

Hi all. Driving down to Memphis in a month, looks like Tunica is the spot to go for break to play some cash games. Any suggestions on where would be appreciated.

Horseshoe or Hollywood are your only two options at this point.

And they know it.

I see as I was reading above - looks like the Horseshoe. Rake is 5 bucks, at 10%? That's sounds good. It will only be a few hours, just looking to get out outside my hometown.

The HPO on opening night was a 5 table event. Also was a 3-6 limit game. Otherwise a lot of empty tables.

Thinking about driving down to play some tonight since it's st Patrick's day. Think it's worth it? Are there usually Extra drunk players celebrating st paddies day or is it usually business as usual?

Probably was business as usual.

Don't play much poker these days, playing guitar has become first priority. However, may go down to the Shoe once or twice in June to play some cash. I see they have raised the rake, and slashed the comps! What in the world has become of Tunica poker?

Dead everywhere but the Shoe. Last Sat. all 25 tables were going, including 7 1-3 games. The comps are now $1/hr.

I visited the Shoe last weekend, weird to see casinos in the middle of nowhere. Not a bad room, good games. Wait times/list not managed as well as my hometown. Can't say I'll ever be back as Miss. not on my list of places to visit but I enjoyed the experience.

I saw on the news this morning they want to dismantle the old Harrahs. I hoped somebody might eventually buy it and reopen it. They say the lease to park the floating part there is 3.65 million a year and they want out of that

Yes i saw that too. They are going to tear it down and float it away. Nobody in their right mind is going to buy the old Harrah's property, sadly. The casinos that are left in Tunica are struggling as it is, nobody is going to open a new one.

The Gold Strike/Horseshoe/Roadhouse complex with all three of them together is doing "ok" I heard, but the ones further down the road at Sam's Town/Fitzgeralds/Hollywood/Resorts are hurting big time, I'd expect one or more of those to close before too much time passes by. Just hope it's not the Hollywood as that is the only one with a poker room (sort of lol) left.

Robinsonville will be a ghost town within 5 years. There are just too many alternatives now that are closer to other people. They have lost pretty much the entire Nashville market to better places up north.

Sadly, I agree. And the large population center around Memphis is driving over to West Memphis, AR to play there, instead of going to Tunica since it is a whole lot closer and not way out in the middle of a dang cotton field somewhere like Tunica is. Drive by Southland park on an ordinary Wednesday night and the place is packed, while Tunica is half deserted. They just completed another multi million dollar expansion at Southland recently as well, which is like the third or fourth expansion they have done in the last few years.

The entire plan of Tunica worked well, years ago when it was first developed, but times have changed now and they are way behind the times. Now with the new Bass Pro Shop Pyramid nearby Southland Park will be getting even more walk in casual business.

If Arkansas gets it's act together and would expand casinos in West Memphis (currently Southland is the only one that can operate there) they would close down Tunica in about a week and a half lol.

Southland affects Tunica's local traffic but the biggest threat was the opening of casinos in Oklahoma, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio these new casinos got the visitors from Texas , Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Eastern Tennessee etc people no longer had to travel to Tunica as they now had casinos closer to their home. The expansion of gambling killed Tunica and the fact that the casinos here didn't adapt to their competition instead of lowering room rates, food prices, loosing up machines so they would pay out more they tightened them up and the table games used to have the best rules in the country but these slowly changed to house friendly rules thus players had no reason to travel to Tunica.
