I moved to Memphis in Feb and go to the Horseshoe most Saturday nights and some Friday nights.

There's always a 1/2 PLO interest list and the game does run with enough people, but note that the blinds are 1/2 but its really a 1/2/5 game without the straddle. Limping pf is $5 and button straddles are for $10.

2/5 usually gets a 2nd table going around 7-8 when enough players are on the wait list, but if only one table is going and there are several names in front of you then you could be waiting a while to sit. 1/3 generally has a seat available or will quickly so Ill play 1/3 until a 2/5 opens or a 2nd table starts up.

Would like opinions on the poker room, and the best way to get comps through playing

What exactly would you like to know?

It's the only (serious) option left in the area, so you basically either play there or don't play at all.

Horseshoe is a Caesars property, so you'll get comps through Total Rewards at the casino.

Southland Park in West Memphis is going to soon be offering sports betting as well with the recent election results legalizing it in Arkansas. They are supposedly going to be adding live dealers to the table games like blackjack, and reportedly build a $200 million dollar convention center & hotel on to the property. I was there last Saturday, prime time, 8 pm, but not much at all going on in their little electronic poker room so....

Hi!

Please say what games are usually going? PLO? Every day?

The only game that has always been going when I was there is 1/3 NL.

4/8 LHE has been going most nights and 2/5NL occasionally on the weekend. I’ve never seen a PLO game there, but they always have someone on the waitlist for it and dealers/floors have told me about games.

In general I would check Bravo and/or call the room if I wanted to play anything other than 1/3 NL or 4/8 LHE.

I read today that Roadhouse is closing down at the end of January . I think the hotel is staying open, I know they didn't have poker but it shows how slow things have got I guess.

1/2 PLO has been running every Saturday starting at 4pm. A few weeks back a 5/10 and even a 10/20 PLO game got going.

Generally the 20/40 LHE game runs on Saturday as well.

Week nights it is pretty much 1/3 going 2ith an occasional 2/5 game starting if enough of the regs are around.

While the poker action has significantly dropped over the last couple of years, the vast majority of NL players are still really bad. In lots of other casinos you feel like even the 1/3 regulars are getting a better understanding of the game. That’s not the case in Tunica. At least in my experience.

Southland has now said officially in a news statement that they will be investing $250 million dollars into the park with the recent law changes in Arkansas. They said this will include a new 200 room hotel, a 113,000 feet casino expansion that will increase the number of slot machines to 2400 and an expected 60 live table games (with real dealers). The press releases have not mentioned anything about their plans for live poker, I guess time will tell...

With another casino closing in Tunica recently, I would sure love it if Southland adds real live standard poker - since it is so much closer to my house lol. Time will tell.....Construction is gong to start in the summer of 2019 and is supposed to be completed by 2020.

Looks like Southland has closed their small poker room and is going to be putting blackjack and craps tables where the poker room was upstairs in anticipation of adding live dealers soon with the law that was passed last election letting them have live traditional casino games with live dealers.

No poker room with live dealers, now that the state law allows it. The poker room at Southland is dead.

Oops....Now it looks like Southland will be adding a brand new poker room with live dealers..."later". They were on the radio talking about the expansion and mentioned that live poker will be coming later. Good news.

Any Grand and/or Horseshoe regs from 1999-2005 post in this thread? I used to play upstairs at the grand, and also at the Shoe a lot back then.

Not a reg or local but I loved the 20-40 hold em at Shoe the one time I spent a very long weekend there in the early 2000s. Great action, friendly regs, GREAT hotel and beds (think I got the poker rate of like 30 a day), great food with easy comps (just ask), great steakhouse, fun casino (this was back when I played pit games as well, no more). Would love another trip there sometime.

You can't. Tunica 2002 is a billion miles away from Tunica 2020.

Started going in 1998, started being dissappointed in 2005. Quit going completely in 2014.

20 40 at the shoe is still good action and lots of fun!
