This may have already been asked and answered but can't find it if so.

What is the best way to get through Phoenix from Tucson on the way to LV? My GPS and AAA send me on I-10 to 101 to 60 through Glendale to 93. And the trip through Phoenix and Glendale is usually worse than LA or DC (or so it seems).

Would it be better to go up I-17 to Flagstaff then over on I-40 to 93?

Brag: won a seat to WSOP ME at casino del sol
Beat: is far higher then my average game ($100-400) or my highest ever ($1100)
Variance: play my super A-game and see where the 52 cards take me?

Flagstaff is too far out of the way.

Take 1-17 to the Lake Pleasant exit which is way on the Northside of Phoenix. Go west. It joins 93 just South of Wickenberg. If you are going from Talking Stick rather than Tucson take the 101 North until it joins I-17. Go North on 1-17 until you get to the Lake Pleasant exit.

This cuts off the whole Glendale--Sun City mess.

I posted some misinformation about you liking to shove with 7-2 off, but apparently it was deleted. Not that anyone you were playing against was going to read it anyway.

How can we keep track of Ray's progress?

There are several sites that provide end of day chip counts (including WSOP site), but I'm not sure that live streaming is up yet.

Ray doubled his stack on day 1, so in fairly good shape going into day 2.

Yer gonna need a bigger "highest ever win".

Congrats Ray. I can't wait to hear the stories.

Little late announcement, I bowed out in day 4 in 448th place for $28k. And I am both happy and sad, if you know what I mean...

I'll never understand the sad part. You won $28k from a $100 sat. You are the man! I'm so jelly.

Forever ... people will point at you and say, "That guy cashed in the WSOP main event."

That's pretty cool, imho.

I need some coaching because I keep losing when I am 80 percent or better. That's my big problem, I get my money in good, and then lose to a 2 outer. How can I correct that?

Also, to correct the "Shoving with 7,2 off" rumor, I have never seen Ray shove with 7.2 .... even suited! I did see him shove with Q,4 off once, and beat JJ and 88 to triple up and then come and knock me out with my AJ against his KK the next hand, but never 7,2 off. To be fair he was shortstacked, and he said he only looked at 1 card, like during the hand, "I'm only looking at 1 card." Saw the Q and went all in. Still pretty sick.

He's clever. I'm not at all surprised he cashed.

I also heard a story about Ray cracking KK with KQ in the qualifier ... but hey, that's poker.

"Sniper" apparently is the guys nickname. I played with him in a home game. He's not a bad player. I got him to put his money in bad and of course he sucked out.

If it wasn't for luck .... oh wait, someone else already said that.

Mike "The Mouth" Matusow once said he was the unluckiest player in the history of poker. He's wrong. There are lots and lots of people that don't even come close to the magical gift of being a poker celebrity has given him. The unluckiest guys ever, are guys like me. Unless I win next year, and then it will be somebody else.

There's a lot of regs at Del Sol that wont admit it, but they aren't beating the rake. I know, for sure, over time, they do not beat the rake.

One of the dealers put it to me this way, "You can't beat a table full of calling stations." I guess I gotta check out the 3/5 game because I'm tired of sitting at tables with a bunch of 90 year old zombies that just don't care about their damn kids, and plan to lose every dime if they can. It's just gambling, against bad players. I'm trying to get a roll together, and I'll play, but I'm not playing improperly bankrolled, so it might be a couple weeks.

I dunno why ... bad players always get lucky against me. Good players, I'm much less stressed out.

Also, of course if you are interested in that Monday night game downtown, let me know. It's more of a celebration, of friends, so ... I can't invite just anybody. Bill and Ray though, any time. LMK.

ETA: There's been some discussion about having a legal card club, here in a state where a town is named after a poker hand, it;s amazing it's an issue but ... I'm not sure what the legality is, there but apparently there is already a possible location. We'd be a not for profit, run it as a club.

Mostly that's just pipe dreams of the low lifes I play with ... but it's an interesting legal argument. If you could have a legal cardroom in downtown Tucson. $1 membership fee. I dunno. I am not familiar with those statutes. Or ... whatever they are.

The late night gunshots I just heard getting fired into the air (SW side) remind me that, we are gonna need better security.

However, there are a couple hardcore gangsters that play in that game. Local vatos, one dude has TUCSON tatooed across the front of his neck. He's tough to read, but actually a really cool guy. Some of the same characters you may have seen at Del Sol. Yeah .... pretty much trying to be the biggest fish in a small pond right now. But I want to play in that 3-5 game at some point.

It's also very interesting to observe what I call "prison poker", which is just all in all the time, brute force with no tactical skills. Sorta like playing 2/4 at Del Sol.

Sorry for the rambling. Hope to see you around.

So sick.

I go to del sol tonight and lose once with KK which I show and fold. 4 hearts on the board and my red king was a diamond. Guy showed the Kh, no way I coulda bet him off it. NP, I'm still up. I move to the 2/5 table. Couple hands in, guy raises it to $120 pre. I look down at 2 black aces. I re-pop it, all in. The guy thinks and says outloud, "Aces? Maybe I will get a Q. " and calls with QQ. Flop comes JJQ.

I may never play there again.

$800 pot.

Should I have showed the aces there? He can't call right? I dunno ... I wanted a call. Right? I wanted a call. Or do I wanna take down $130 uncontested?

So much for the idea of moving up to reduce variance.

I dunno. I can't explain why I run so bad there, but I wont be playing at Del Sol ever again.

I've been playing poker for 30 plus years and the top 10 bad beats I have taken all happened at Del Sol in the last 2 years.

I can't explain it. 1 outers, running 1 outer 2 outer ... the sickest of the sick. It's been fun, but I don't think I can walk into that room without throwing up after this all in pre with bullets and cracked.

Seems like a good hand to leave on, too.
