The poker room was as packed as I've ever seen it on Sunday and Monday. There was some sort of pub poker tournament series and also some sort of poker-playing biker gathering there too. Really fun people to play with.

well, this had its advantages and disadvantages:

the disadvantages include (1) the dealers were quite tired (sleepy) of long shifts by Monday noon, (2) the seating turned into a fast production line cattle call, good luck getting a seat... (3) there wasn't nearly enough floor people to handle the volume, - didn't get into my game until Monday, and even then mostly by accident, that I showed up as the game was being called, and (4) there was way too much noise in the low limit area, - still, the advantage was significant: I did appreciate the action and friendliness of the numerous pub guests...

a final point for the peanut gallery: there wasn't nearly enough staff to serve drinks as demand warranted which kept the homey insane asylum feel intact without moving us all into a bar room brawl atmosphere that drinks on demand though out the long nights might have produced...though the poker room was prepared for this final scenario with security and time-outs...

Hello,

As my first post I would like to address the bathroom situation at the taj. The ONLY bathroom that I use at the Taj is the one in the high roller pit. Sure it might be about 15 steps further then the disgusting one in the back of the poker room but it is ALWAYS clean, you never have to worry about getting robbed and they have clean cloth towels to dry your hands off for those of you who actually wash your hands . The floor in the high roller pit will NEVER say anything to you for using the bathroom. I hope this helps out my fellow grinders as I am sure that many of you have had issues with the bathroom during a session.

I walk over out the back of the room towards where that bar that has the loud music near the arena. Is that what you mean?
05-21-2009 , 01:45 AM
Yes, the exit in the back is an exit only so you have to walk through the front of the pit to get in and exit the back and come out by the players card service and the back of the poker room where the horse betting is.
05-21-2009 , 02:55 PM
I didn't even know there was one in the area. Last time I walked out the room to the one across from the noodle bar.

The bathroom across from the noodle bar is not the high stakes bathroom that was mentioned earlier. The Noodle Bar bathroom is miles way better than the crappy bathroom on the other side of the poker room, where legend and truth will both say people get stabbed there.

To get to the high stakes bathroom, you have to go on the casino floor from the poker front entrance, stay on the right and down to the high stakes area where the dealers are all wearing tuxedos. Go up the stairs in the back and the bathrooms are on the left. They are very small bathrooms, with one toilet and a couple urinals.

I doubt the shooting will have much affect on poker room rates or availability.

This doesn't scare me at all, but I am wondering if they shut down the poker room tonight - one of the articles says they closed the pit. I was planning to go tomorrow, hope the room is still open and there are still plenty of players.

Surprised there isn't more about the shooting on this message board...obviously did not happen near the poker room.

I haven't tried to get any of the comp rooms for June/July yet; hopefully there will be some available.

There's an NVG thread running on the same issue, so that's where the discussion is.

I am quite suprised as well. I was in the poker room when it happened, and had no idea anything had happened, until maybe an hour later when the story/rumors gradually spread into the poker room. I'm sure if I had actually heard the gun shots this would have affected me differently, but the overall mood in the pokerroom/my table was business as usual. It wasn't until later when it was confirmed by a dealer who the victim was and that he had died, that the mood changed a bit. She (the dealer) seemed deeply saddened by this.

My thoughts go out to the family, friends, and co-workers of Mr. Kot.

The shooting did not happen on the casino floor, it happen near where they store cards and dice etc.

I'm a pretty regular 10/20 player. I don't get to play all the time right now seeing as how I am a full time student. You sound familiar but I cannot put a face to you at the moment.

I am a younger asian guy (look more mixed) with a shaved head, normally wear some sort of black baseball cap and some kind of tee shirt with a lot of designs/crap on it. I'm pretty talkative also.

Strange. I don't think I've ever been to Taj and not seen at least one 5/10 O8 game going. Last time I was there they had two 5/10 games and only one 2/4.
