Before I had the comps I have now, I pulled this move and it did work. This is going back a few years, so I'm not sure if times/policies have changed. By the way, most of the rooms at the Taj, especially in the newer tower, are pretty nice. I go several times a year and I can't remember the last time I had an issue with cleanliness or space.

The two things that are hit and miss are the showers, which is the case anywhere, and the walls throught the entire hotel are pretty thin. So if you're bringing a moaner with you, be aware that you're neighbors could be listening in...

Thanx for the advice.

When I check in I usually just want to get to my room, and I am always put in the old tower. I never thought of making an issue of being put in the chairman's tower.

When this did work for you, what upgrade did you get? A suite?

I don't know how many tier points you need to start getting free rooms. But I noticed that once I was 'executive' level at Taj I started getting room offers. There it is 4000 tier points for Executive level tier. I think it is harder to get comped rooms at Taj than the Harrah's casinos honestly. But if you do the taxes per night at Taj are only $5 while the Harrah's properties charge you $13/night for comped rooms in taxes and tourism fees.

Its pretty easy to get free rooms at HET during this time of year. imo

I can confirm that I have gotten the grand suite by doing this a few times, but each individual front desk person is different in what they are willing to do.

There is always a list for it, but it usually only goes on busy weekends, and sometimes breaks quickly even then.

What is it with Taj $5-10 and $10-20 7CS players that spend as much time away from the table as playing? I don't mind playing six handed, I actually prefer it, but it just seems lowlife. Do they really need the minimal comps that bad?

Was in the 10 game last night and overheard this woman in the 20-40, "Are you going to shutup anytime in the near future, you're not even in the hand!? I lose the hand and have to get lessons from this clown!" Too funny. The Taj is an interesting study in sociology.

they use to get 2 - 3 tables going all the time. Then came along tv and NLH became the came. Now you can't one. Sad thing is it is a big jump from 3/6 to 10/20.

Don't you mean sociopaths?

I play there alot, know most 5-10 players They settle in and wanna eat and smoke and never give up the seat It's not a comp issue--they just wanna make a day out of it and don't wanna feel like they HAVE to play for the sake of the game I love it short as well, but with the limited stud games available they DO take advantage---the 3 button rule should be changed to protect the game--i see people play one hand an hour then walk all the time

Yes, I've had many a 'stud lesson' from an octogenerian at the Taj.
Hmmm...if you've been playing stud since dubya-dubya two, then why are you @ a 5/10 table ?

Most of the ol' timers are OK, and they're just retirees killing time, etc.
But, there are some regs there that are just miserable, angry, crotchety, old people. When Trop used to spread 5/10, it was a much more friendly (and profitable) game. If there was ANY other 5/10 through 10/20 stud option in AC, I'd play there, believe me.

Lets start a revolt and get a 5/10 game @ Borgata...Maybe we go wild and have a $1 ante instead of .50 too...

Article on stud players at Trump Taj from Philadelphia Inquirer a few days ago.

Stud poker players love the slow play.

When I check-in for a comped room I just request the Chairman Tower. I've never been refused. I don't ask for a suite but the standard rooms are very nice...big bathroom with a big shower.

*********

I used to play mostly at Borgata, so only 7CS for maybe a year or two.

I'll play below $10-20 (LHE and 7CS) if I want to play with a friend I've staked. Below that I can't take it serious. Actually have trouble taking the game serious with less than $500 in front of me.

Will play $20-40, except O8 I'll keep at $5-10 getting my feet wet.

Nice article. I know almost all of the 'characters' that were mentioned in the article. I can't believe Mario is 85, he looks and gets around pretty good.
And god bless him for all that he's been through in his life.
On the other hand...not a big fan of Pat or Barbara. They're arrogant, miserable, and never shut up. They also suck at stud, which is good, but I can't stand playing with either one of them.

If anyones interested...

The Taj poker room has been hosting a charity event all this week and will continue to do so until Sunday.

Last year, A very respected employee, Ray Kott, was shot and killed on the casino floor.

The poker room has been running single-table satellites from Noon-Midnight. Only 1st place will receive an entry into the main tournament that will be held this Sunday, January 24. All are welcome to play including Taj employees (poker dealers, Floorpeople etc.). The entry fee is $25, which will be used to assist/fund Ray's only son with a college education.

I've played in a few of them so far and I gotta tell you, the atmosphere at the table has really been great. Everyone was having fun, noone was moaning or complaining about bad beats...it was a nice change of pace, and, it was for a good cause.

Anyway..

The winner of each table will win a seat into Sundays Tournament. The prizes are as follows:

1st place: Two tickets to Super Bowl Sunday In Miami, Florida, All expenses Paid.

2nd place: 50 in. Plasma TV.

3rd place: Complimentary suite in the Chairman's Tower for you and ten of your best friends, everything is included from butler service, booze, gourmet food...you name it.

Couldn't get the link to find the article, but I recognize those names, Kaiko(sp?), and a half dozen I don't recall their name. Had fun during my time at $5-10, but time to move up. Thanks for the lessons...lol.

LOL at the last line of the article..

"It keeps you thinking and alert," Giallorenzo said, as compared to Texas Hold 'em, which, he says, requires a lower level of skill"

Did Bart Stone and John Smiley actually exist (and if so, are they still around?) or were they fictional characters, or were they fictional characters based on real people?

Can someone tell me what the best way to get a room comped/poker rate at the taj? I play 20 40 and several of the players in that game have told me they get hooked up w/ rooms pretty much whenever. is this true? I do have a one card but not alot of play since most of my play is at the borgata. thanks for any help
01-25-2010 , 12:47 PM
best way: get a lot of play on your card. In the beginning, you may be only offered the room rate, but with more play, they'll probably hook you up with free rooms, definitely during the week. Weekend is always iffy.

Last I remember Sunday thru Thursday if you play 6 hours of 20/40 or higher you can get a free room. What you do is book the room under the poker rate thru Marsha in the poker room, then when you log 6 hours on your card for the day she will give you a full credit for the room, minus taxes I am sure.

How often do you play 20/40 at Taj, maybe we've played at the same table before?
