Sad. I can still hear the "Water? Soda? Juice?" calls from the waitresses.

BBJ at $123,866 yesterday. My friend said he thinks they are still holding 20% in reserve as usual for the next jackpot, but that will be added in on Friday. Bad Beat requirement will be lowered to Kings Full on Friday morning at 10am, then be lowered one pip every 4 hours until Sunday morning, when it will be any full house beaten, until it hits.

What's your source on the Kings full part? "My friend said he thinks" or was that only referencing the reserve? I'm amazed they picked up the phone for anyone.

My friend was there in person (he is a regular), and he sent me a photo of a printed form showing the reducing jackpot requirements. He wrote the jackpot amount on it, given to him by a room rep.
I imagine he was also told about the reserve deal. It is common for casinos in AC to hold back approximately that much for the next jackpot; when I was a regular at the Borgata each jackpot would also start at about 20% of the previous one.

I'd imagine they'll keep the heat on.

The bbj hit moments ago hammering in the last nail to a room that brought stud, holdem and omaha the game of kings ,dukes and earls, royality the world over to the the Queen of resorts. Look for a revamped version of poker on the casino floor with the sole survivor driving this tailspin into a closing, returning as an assistant shift on the floor, its good to be buddies with the c.m. my best to the dealers who ground out the hands and made this legend I look to see their faces and enoy their skills elsewere in town or close by states

If the poker room is reopening in July why did they have to give away the bad beat. The poker room only has an obligation to give it away if they have no plans to reopen. If all they are doing is remodeling and opening up six months later it's not like they are keeping the money.

Excellent point, this seems like a smoke and mirror for the future bankrupcy dance with the union who want their dole and the big cheeses who see this dinasaur as a fire sale. Rememeber the movie where the band played on as the ship sunk I think it was the Tajtanic ::........

So Sad to Read, However....... lets be honest. The room and the Taj has been run into the ground by The "Trump Entertainment Group" I feel for all the employees...so sad so sad!!!

I agree. That's sad. Unless people really don't care since they claim to be reopening in July. I really won't believe that until I see it.

The Taj poker room is the first room I played in. This is like reading the obituary of the first girl I has sex with.

Someone send us a PM if they do end up reopening in July so we can reopen the thread.

EDIT to add: I loved their midnight tournaments. I'll never forget being in AC on a snowy Tuesday night in late January or early February years ago and there being almost 100 runners for it.

My thoughts and respect goes out to the entire staff in the Taj Poker Room. Having gone through it at Revel, I can truly empathize with all of you. Hopefully in a few months none of this will matter and all of you will return. Whatever the future holds, be proud of what you all accomplished there and how well you performed your duties at a truly iconic Card Room. It set a standard for all others to follow, all the best to one and all!!!

just stopping in to pay my respects...the Taj was also the first place I played casino poker, and it is at least second in the number of hours I have put in any one room. I stopped being a regular years ago when the 10-20 and higher games died, but I still have many fond memories. While it was certainly not as nice a room as the Borgata, I also enjoyed being near the beach and boardwalk, they gave great comps, and always had great action.

I'd love to read trip reports by anyone who was there final weekend. Hoping to get a report soon from my non- 2+2 local buddy as well.

It is sad to witness the demise of what was once the best poker room east of Las Vegas. Many great players came through that room. I've enjoyed the expansion of casino gambling in the Philadelphia/Atlantic City area. Poker players now have more rooms than ever spreading mid-limit and high-limit games. But there is nothing left like the Taj in it's prime, when the room was full every weekend. It was the biggest room in the world outside of California, and any half decent player could find a game they could beat there.

Fond memories. It's a shame.

I remember going to the Taj in the mid-late 90's and seeing the big stud games going in the high limit area. This was back when Cindy Violette was part of the furniture. Ted Forrest, Nick Frangos, Allen Kessler, Ivey, John Hennigan, John Myung, Miami John Cernuto, Freddie Ellis and Nick Schulman recently.

I wasn't there when they actually filmed Rounders but I do remember being dealt numerous times by that female dealer that appeared in the movie. She left not too long after that but I do recall her telling us she got something like $500 for it.

I have a lot of stories. One involves Trump himself walking into the room with wife Melania to catch the score of the Knicks game, who were then in the playoffs. He strolls in with an entourage and said wife and is staring up at the TV when someone comes over and says "Hey Donald, what's up?!" to which Trump says something like "Do you mind? I'm trying to watch the game."

I really am going to miss the place.

I went on Friday evening BBJ chasing and getting one last game in. It was pure crazyness. I got there around 7:30pm and saw a gigantic line at the cashier cage. A sign had the reducing BBJ hand requirements and one sign had $184K in the BBJ.

After sitting for a bit at a game, I was told the BBJ had hit around 6PM. Apparently everyone in the room got a $156 share. That explains the huge line. People were confused by needing your SSN, thinking you needed your social security card. All night there was a mob around that eyeball high back desk near the rounders wall with people trying to get paid, 3 deep holding cards up trying to get someone to take it. Apparently you had to wait at the table until they came around giving out cards, then do something with the card at that desk to get a slip, to then take to the cage? I left the room around 10PM, 4 hours after the BBJ hit, and there were still people trying to get their money. The dealer who dealt the BBJ sat at my table and said she was tipped nicely for it. Fun time though.

Fond memories although the filthy chips won't be missed.
